  • Family- and dog-friendly site in Kirkby Malzeard, six miles from Ripon
  • Harrogate and Yorkshire Dales National Park within a half-hour drive
  • Mobile hot tub (for an additional fee) and guest kitchen; café on site
If your idea of a top-notch rural break is one that’s packed with scenic strolls and/or bike rides, you should be in good hands at Ivy Bank Campsite. This spacious, family- and dog-friendly site is on the edge of the village of Kirkby Malzeard and surrounded by the Nidderdale National Landscape, with the Yorkshire Dales National Park not far beyond. There are heaps of places to get out for a day of hiking or cycling: Brimham Rocks, Fountains Abbey and Newby Hall are all within a half-hour drive, and the site owners are happy to pass on tips for local jaunts too. Take urban wanders around Ripon (15 minutes’ drive away) and Harrogate (25 minutes), or trade all the rural peace for thrills at Lightwater Valley Theme Park, 15 minutes away, too. There’s plenty of space for post-activity chilling out on site, with the on-site café dishing out fresh coffee and croissants, hot and cold sandwiches and sweet treats like cakes, brownies and scones (you're also welcome to stay parked after your check-out to use the café). Unwind at the mobile hot tub (extra fee applies) too, or head to the play area that's a two-minute walk away from the site. If you'd like to cook for yourself, there's a small kitchen area housed in a converted horsebox with a sink, toaster, kettle and microwave, as well as a book exchange and plugs to charge devices. Other handy bits and bobs around the place include a shower block and recycling facilities. Firepits are available to rent for warming up of an evening; if you’d prefer to cosy up in the pub, it’s a mere five-minute amble to the local tavern for a pint or plate of grub. Also in the village are a chip shop and a butcher to supply the bits for your barbecue.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Lovely welcoming staff and owners, absolutely spotless facilities well thought out including the little guest kitchen area.

The cafe looked amazing serving snacks and drinks Monday and Tuesdays then breakfasts every other day so I’m 100 percent going to return to try.

Freedom to pitch where you like and quirky extras like the glamping, mobile hot tubs looked really good.

Great location to walk into the village and close to a pub.

Disliked Not a dislike but the onsite cafe dose not do hot food Monday or Tuesdays but as I agree with Sam the owner the cooking part of the team need days off too and Izzy was a amazing host doing snacks and a morning coffee

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Great, relaxed site with clean bathrooms and some fridge/freezer space too. Beautiful setting and space to walk the dogs off lead opposite the site. Brilliant on-site cafe too. Owners/managers really friendly.

Disliked Noisy neighbours until the small hours but nothing ear plugs couldn’t shut out 😆

Disliked Sloping pitch and burnt grass from fire pits

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: I’m sorry you left leaving such a low score ( but would visit again…. ) we are very proud of our ratings and have never has a 5/10.

The fire pits are used on the same patches all season and will re cover over winter and there’s lots of level pitches over the 3 fields you can choose from.

If you want to discuss please email us.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Lovely site, friendly owner and nice clean facilities. Beautiful location and seemed to have some nice options for Glamping and hot tubs but we didn't use these.
Cafe looked nice but we weren't there for opening times. Village pub in short walking distance.

Disliked Guest Kitchen only has microwave, toaster and kettle. Advert said there was a hob and an oven, which was a main reason we booked, as our gas had run out and we had food to cook, but there wasn't either there so we had to eat at the pub. Needs the advert updating.

Motorhomes encouraged to drain grey waste anywhere on field, but would be nicer to have a drain to use or a specific area as they can hold a lot of waste water.

Popular picks for gentle ambles around here include the pretty Himalayan Garden & Sculpture Park (10 minutes’ drive), the ancient ruins of Fountains Abbey & Studley Royal Water Gardens (15 minutes) and the elegant gardens of Newby Hall (25 minutes), which also has a miniature railway in case of tired legs. Sustenance for such outings and for evenings in can be acquired over at Masham’s Black Sheep Brewery (15 minutes), at Pateley Bridge’s Oldest Sweet Shop In The World (20 minutes) or with a stop for a top-notch tea at Betty’s in Harrogate (25 minutes). Continue the laidback theme of your break with a bimble around Brimham Rocks or a round at the local golf course (both 15 minutes).
