  • Quiet, dog-friendly site five minutes' walk from village pub and café
  • A 15-minute drive from Spurn National Nature Reserve
  • Half an hour from Hull and just over an hour from Bridlington
How about big skies, lighthouses and sandy beaches on Yorkshire’s east coast? A 10-minute drive from the sea, Hollym Holiday Park has the lot. On the edge of village of Hollym, and about five minutes’ walk from the local pub and café, this park is surrounded by the diverse attractions of the East Riding, from remote wilderness reserves to traditional bucket and spade resorts, stately homes to Cold War bunkers and high speed boat rides. Whatever your speed, you’ll appreciate the friendly atmosphere on this small, well-maintained site, whose facilities include an indoor washing-up area with a shared fridge and freezer and separate male and female washrooms. Well-behaved dogs are welcome on the site if kept on a lead, and greeted like long lost pals in the local village pub, while nearby Withernsea beach makes a brilliant place for walkies, human and canine. It’s also good for wanders of the lighthouse and its museum, beachcombing and quiet contemplation among the dunes finished off with fish and chips. If you feel no promenade is complete without a local landmark, head a little further up to Hillston (20 minutes), where Admiral Storr’s Tower does indeed tower over the low-lying landscape, having been built in the 18th century to look out for invaders from the east.

Powered cement/asphalt travel trailer campsite

Liked Lovely place in a great location for walking and the Beach. Peaceful no passing traffic other than an odd car. Walking distance to pub beach and to local beach and Withernsea. Beach was lovely and quite and you can walk for miles.

Lovely immaculate family run site with brilliant owners who had pride in their site even their children helped and had great manners. We even got an invite to a birthday celebration all the camp site did which was a lovely gesture.

We were even lucky enough to spot deer

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Attentive owners, very welcoming and caring about their customers and site. Exceptionally clean facilities. Close to pub (The Plough - 10 mins steady stroll) and 25 mins to sea. Didn’t use Wi-Fi, so can’t comment on that. Would definitely recommend and visit again. Well done.

Disliked Nothing for us to dislike.

Local attractions

They’ve been watchful on the east coast ever since the Vikings arrived, and a recent, rather more chilling reminder of that can be explored at RAF Holmpton, five minutes’ drive away. Built out of tungsten-lined concrete and sunk deep into the earth, this nuclear bunker was originally purposed as an early warning station, but these days, happily, it’s a tourist attraction. The same goes for Fort Paull, 25 minutes away: once a Napoleonic fortress, it’s now home to regular military re-enactments, wartime guns and the only surviving example of a Blackburn Beverly aircraft. For walks and wildlife, on a peninsula sometimes called Yorkshire’s Land’s End, sally forth to Spurn Point and its Nature Reserve (15 minutes), a narrow strip where beaches and mudflats, dunes and lagoons mingle and make a welcome habitat for hordes of migrating birds. Just over an hour away, Bridlington offers total contrast, with family beaches and souped-up boat rides creating whoops of delight on the waves. You can plump for more sedate maritime experiences, like pleasure cruises and seabird safaris, kayak your way round the cliffs to see the puffins, or for inland adventures take the clifftop train to Sewerby Hall for Georgian and Edwardian interiors, pretty parklands and a zoo with a very talkative parrot. For encounters with underwater residents, Hull's aquarium, The Deep, always delivers, as do tours of the city's seafaring past in the Maritime Museum (half an hour).
