  • Well-equipped family-friendly Norfolk site over 26 acres
  • A 35-minute drive from Norwich and 15 minutes from Snetterton Circuit
  • Licensed café, large play area and lakes for fishing on site
Among 32 acres of scenic Norfolk countryside, Old Buckenham Country Park is excellent for some serious ‘you time’. The site is dedicated to enhancing its natural habitats; surrounding the lakes are numerous mature trees, hedgerows and flower-rich grasslands, with many footpaths leading around the park. The kids are welcome to unleash their energy in the play area while adults catch up in the coffee shop. The café serves coffee but also has a licensed bar, which sells tasty light bites well into the twilight hours. The café decking overlooks the lake, so it has particularly splendid views at sunset (and there's free wifi in this area too, so you can share any snaps you take…) Be sure to unwind around your firepits in the evenings too. Grab rod and reel, for anglers, too, are invited to reserve a spot for a day of family fishing or solitary reflection. The lake has an abundance of silver fish. Fish aren’t the only animals to track down either: keep your eyes peeled for chickens (on the ground, not in the sky), ducks, geese, kingfishers, swans and owls. The site is less than five minutes’ drive from the Norfolk village of Old Buckenham.

What customers say

Highly-rated site with spotless, modern facilities. Friendly staff, spacious spots, & a charming lakeside cafe. Great for families, but watch for wasps & improving pitch signage/cleaning at busy times.

Powered grass and gravel travel trailer campsite

Liked Peaceful site, although we were only there midweek, so not sure how noisy it would get on a weekend.
Hot water in showers and washing area.

Disliked Dressing area in the shower cubicles flood, making it very difficult to get dried and dressed without getting clothes wet.
The gravel pitches for caravans were not in any order and subsequently some vans were far to close to others. (We didn't accept our given pitch for this reason, and the wardens kindly offered us an alternative)

A lovely site, aside from a few minor issues. Would go there again.

Powered grass travel trailer campsite

Liked The site was lovely, the kids enjoyed the play park. The pitches were large, and whilst busy the wasn’t a lot of noise on the site. The onsite cafe was lovely and reasonably priced. We had pizza from the food truck on Tuesday, and while a bit pricey it was delicious.
The toilet block is large, clean, and spacious. I never had to queue for a toilet or shower.
There is a lots of space for the kids to play football etc.
My fiancé did fish in the little lake. Not many swims and not much in there but he did catch a good sized perch.

Disliked There was a sewage smell sometimes, that didn’t seem to coincide with people emptying the toilets. Some times during the day the toilet block would smell of it. It wasn’t overly strong and not there all the time.
The hot taps in the toilet block are too hot! Could only use them for a second before switching to the cold tap
The bark paths. The bark was uneven and unpleasant to walk on, and we all constantly had bits of wood in our shoes!

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite (wild)

Liked The welcome and check in was really convenient and cheery. The site is very well kept and the amenities are excellent, clean & warm showers & loos in a really nice block. The stand out feature is the bar and social area that was a lovely place to hang out, play cards, eat & drink.

Liked The amount of space available. Lots of pitches but plenty of space, broken into different areas.
Cafe is nice and well priced.
Toilet/showers are spacious and kept clean.
Water / waste facilities easily accessible and close by
Nice friendly atmosphere

Disliked Pot wash, no plugs, cold water and the birds nesting living its mess over the units.

Liked Really helpful and friendly staff. Great café and restaurant area.

Disliked Had an issue with the hot water on site, and it kept turning off in the evenings. Had to contact out of hours line to get someone to turn it back on.
There was a lot of groups still being noisy late into the night (past the 10pm curfew time), it would have been nice to have seen a warden inspect the site.
Shower block is cleaned at 7am, this seemed like an odd time to when most people wanted to use it.

Liked Friendly staff, park for the little one to play in, in the evening we sat outside, bought a nice cocktail and watch our little girl play with other kids. Was a nice experience on our first time using our caravan - will definitely be coming back.

Disliked I can’t think of anything I disliked.

Liked Everything to do for the children from the play area to the spacious field to play ball in etc. The kids loved it! And we loved seeing them off their iPads and being children!

Disliked The toilets. You could smell them halfway down the field. They were dirty all the time and I didn’t see one single cleaner whilst we were there.

Local attractions

Anyone keen on whisky may have found a nice spot here. The site is 10 minutes’ drive from the English Whisky Co distillery. If the vino is more appealing, it’s 35 minutes from base to Winbirri Vineyard for tours and tastings of reds, whites and sparkling wines. Thirsts quenched, turn next to Snetterton Circuit (15 minutes) where – during well-timed stays – guests can join the crowds to watch the GT Cup final, Mini races, time attack trials and fireworks. Not able to travel for a race? Have a go on the circuit yourself, with track days and training days available for cars and motorbikes. Those who prefer a slower pace to their holidays can skirt Snetterton and opt instead for leisurely days among exotic birds, ferocious beasties and peaceable pets at Banham Zoo (five minutes), or hanging about with the alpacas in the nearby town of Diss (15 minutes). In Diss, there is a leisure centre and a kids' trampoline experience for any rainy days. When some time away from rural bliss is required, a 35-minute drive will land guests in Norwich to explore castle and cathedral, stroll in stunning gardens, learn a bit about history at one of the many museums, or burn a hole in wallets with shopping at the Norwich Market or in high-street stores. And if it’s the coast calling, you’re roughly an hour’s drive from the Norfolk coast, where there are sandy beaches, arcades, scenic dog walks and, of course, plenty of ice cream stops.
