  • Family-run site with on-site fishing and a café
  • Steps from the Shropshire Union Canal
  • Adults-only and dog-friendly; canalside for dog walks
If you had thoughts on an ideal setting for a hol between England and Wales, Hadley Park might well be it. It's in the Shropshire countryside on the border with Wales, next to the Shropshire Union Canal, and a handsomely scenic walk from Whitchurch, Shropshire's oldest market town. Hadley Park is a family-owned and run site that's set up for adults only. It has a small pond where guests can fish – for a fee; a big sundeck overlooking the pond, and a fully licensed on-site café serving fresh local produce. You can also have your hair smartened up in the Hadley Park salon: just enquire when booking using the details in your booking confirmation email. Amenities include a launderette and a washing-up area; there's also a chemical disposal point, and a modern well-kept toilet and shower block with disabled facilities. The park is adults-only and welcomes well-behaved dogs. A service station with fast food and coffee outlet is 400 yards away.

Pool view primitive grass RV campsite

Liked: Lovely very clean facilities and very warm ,nice site, lovely people from start to finish ,well maintained site ,lovely pool , and easy accessibility, right next to canal towpath,

Disliked: Pitch description on pitch up was wrong as no pool view from (,the pool view booking we made ),would have been very disappointing if we hadn't been able to change our booking to a hard standing by the pool ,plus I'm disabled and couldn't have walked to facilities block from there ,so needs description changed ,a little road noise but ok ,

The Little Barn camping pod

Liked: The site was spotlessly clean especially the Toilet block. We loved the accommodation, lovely comfortable bed, lounge area and a private garden. Fishing was really good a stock of small Perch to large Carb. The pond was well kept. We had breakfast in the onsite café both days which was really good. Cooked to order.

Disliked: Getting a taxi from Town was difficult.

FHU cement/asphalt travel trailer campsite

Liked: Nice, easy to get to well laid out site. Great facilities. Heated toilet and shower blocks. Lovely walk along the canal to Whitchurch approximately 40 minutes. Can also walk to locks at Grindley Brook approximately 40 minutes. Horse and Jockey pub few minutes further on from locks but the road (A41) is quite busy and pavements narrow so wouldn’t recommend walking. However, the pub is definitely worth a visit but better accessed by car.

Disliked: Nothing to dislike.

Local attractions

Staying close to home from Hadley Park, the old Shropshire town of Whitchurch is less than a mile away, and the walks of the Sandstone Trail as well as the hacks of the Bishop Bennet Way are easily accessible via the Shropshire and Union Canal on site. Elsewhere, several famed Shropshire and Cheshire sights are within 20 miles of the park, like Chester Cathedral and the city's Roman ruins and amphitheatre; Chester Zoo and Chester Racecourse; the fab follies of Hawkestone Park, and the llamas, alpacas and 50 acres of greenery of Cholmondeley Castle Gardens. Nearby Shrewsbury is famed for its annual flower show and for its Darwin Trail commemorating the life and work of evolution dude Charles Darwin who was born in the town. More modernly, a good range of plays are held at the new Severn Theatre and several riverside pubs and restaurants are around at which to while the night away. The bars, cafés and independent shops of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Llangollen are within driving distance: other top town picks are a picnic in Riverside Park, a stroll along Victoria Promenade, and a steam straight ahead on the Llangollen Railway.
