Adventure play park

  • Water- and land-based event centre in 270 acres of parkland
  • Easy access to Nottingham city centre, rail network and airport
  • Country walks, nature trails and lots to do for kids
What do you reckon is the main flavour of activities at this Nottinghamshire site? Yup, top of the menu at the Holme Pierrepont Country Park, near Nottingham are all sorts of watersports: you'll be able to tackle a whitewater course for canoeing, kayaking, rafting and tubing; paddleboarding, open-top canoeing and the inflatable assault course Wipe Out. But! This is a land-based activity centre too, so if you don't fancy plunging into the foamy depths or would quite like to stay dry for a day, other options can be tackled at the outdoor adventure zone where there's an aerial adventure course, miniature golf, a mini four-wheel drive course for kids, a kids' activity club and archery combat. A large play park, country walks and nature zones are also on site (please note some activities are subject to availability and must be booked at reception; early booking is advisable). Feeling a bit faint just from reading all this and think you'd rather spectate? The centre has kindly included a country park café and a regatta lake where it hosts its own events like rowing and canoe regattas, dragonboat racing and triathlons. Lots is on offer too to keep the kids amused, including a woodland adventure playground and a nature trail a short stroll away. Although all this energetic excellence is only 10 minutes' drive from Nottingham city centre, it's well into the countryside and away from anything townie, as it's deep in the 270 acres of parkland of Holme Pierrepont Country Park. The campsite part of the park covers 18 acres and has a facilities block with showers and toilets, and a site shop selling selected groceries and camping supplies.

Liked: Easy to get in and out of. The Wi-fi was excellent!!

Disliked: Noise of other campers after 10pm, was a very busy and close site. Toilets were quite a fair walk I thought there would be many more dotted around. Probably wouldn’t return just due to the busy nature of the site.

Liked: Position, nice and flat

Disliked: Shop/ booking seldom open, and has very little in it.
Wash facilities poor. Proudly told me they had new facilities and as I was disabled gave me a pitch next to them. They did not work for the entirety of our stay, so we had to use the very tired facilities 500 yards away! The driers did not work in men’s or women’s.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked: Nice area to camp and great venue if you are kayaking.

Disliked: The showers and toilets were out of action on Rafters Field all weekend so we had to walk to the main block which was a fair distance. They didn't seem to be in a rush to get these fixed

Liked: The grounds were nice and tidy, the park for the children and outdoor space to play was good.

Disliked: Some very loud partying to the early hours and not stopped by wardens.

Toilets were trashed one night and often out of paper.

Toilets cleanliness could be improved

Liked: Great site, well spaced out flat pitches. Not cramped at all and good number of toilets and showers so never a queue. Great location for Nottingham and the Water-sports Centre.

Liked: There were lots of pitch sites and they were clearly labelled. There were plenty of toilets and they were kept clean. We liked how close we were to the water sports centre as we had activities booked.

Disliked: There was a lot of dog poo left in the field as many dogs were left off leads. There were also no bins near the site so even when I did pick up my dogs poo I had to take it with me until I found a bin (which was not easy)

Powered grass campsite

Liked: Size of pitches and size campsite.

Disliked: Shower and toilet facilities were always filthy! The showers were push button and lasted 5 seconds! Then went ice cold and scorching hot! There was no middle ground!
Toilets were always wrecked! No toilet roll in any by the evening!
The rule of no open fires! Well there seemed to be a lot of fire pits. Never saw a camp warden! Quiet time after 21.30! No it was not!

Someone from the seasonal / permanent pitch, walked past and took my children's helmets! They were using them as a goal, came in for 10 minutes and they were gone! Got a good description from someone who witnessed it, a walk around the campsite, and found them outside their pitch!
Reported to reception, but they didn't seem bothered!

Play park on site was not appealing to thw children.

No activities for under 8yos available at the centre! No jeeps, no archery, no inflatables in the lagoon. Called to enquire and the person on the phone was rude and hung up!
