If you're looking to alternate between relaxing in 250 acres of Robin Hood country and a whole host of adventurous activities for guests over the age of four, seek out a spot at Walesby Forest in leafy Nottinghamshire. The vast range of leisure activities here should help even those averse to alfresco exercise get moving, with popular options including watersports, climbing, archery and rifle shooting. A friendly team of dedicated instructors is on hand to make sure all that outdoor action takes place in a safe, low-pressure environment. The programme is updated daily, with a flexible play and pay policy to keep it all affordable. Time to swap sporty sessions for a bit of downtime? Take your pick from drinks or snacks at the bar, a poolside snooze or rambles through the site's wild woodland areas, where all sorts of animals can be spotted. Angling fans may find it similarly peaceful to take advantage of the free river Maun fishing opportunities available on site. When it comes to food, there's a handy catering barn (which, with advance notice, can sort meals for guests with special dietary requirements), plus a small shop that stocks plenty of sweet treats and souvenirs. If you'd rather step out for dinner, make your way into Walesby (a mile away), where two popular establishments are all set to serve up pub-cooked food. Non hook up pitch for my camping trailer

Bushcraft food - making bread over a fire

Evening campfire with silly songs and entertainment provided by staff.

Our toilet block. 3 toilets and 2 showers which were regularly cleaned. showers were always hot.

The pot wash area outside. nice hot taps. well lit at night.

We loved our stay and wanted to stay longer! Fabulous surroundings x

Liked: The space and grounds were exceptional. Beautiful, well kept and excellent location (E pitch)

Disliked: The shower block was extremely dirty which was disappointing. Luckily we have a tourer so used our own however for easiness (3ppl) wanted to use facilities.

Liked: I recently had an amazing camping trip at Walesby Forest, and I can't recommend it enough! The atmosphere there is absolutely fantastic—it's so peaceful and surrounded by nature, which really adds to the experience. It’s a perfect spot for families, especially with children.

There were so many activities to keep the kids entertained, from archery, high ropes to water activities, and they had an absolute blast. The campfire in the evening was definitely a highlight, then heading back roasting marshmallows and sharing stories under the stars created such a happy and friendly vibe. Overall, it was a wonderful trip filled with laughter and adventure, and I can’t wait to go back!

Disliked: I recently had a great experience at Walesby Forest! The atmosphere was lovely, and there were plenty of activities to keep everyone entertained. However, I did notice that the toilets could use a bit more attention when it comes to cleanliness. These should really be checked regularly as the camp site did get a little busy at times along with the showers. Aside from that, everything else was fantastic. The staff was friendly, and the overall vibe made for a wonderful camping trip. I look forward to visiting again!

Liked: Great location with a lot of land.

Disliked: A lot of space on site but due to electric hook up pitches being few and far between everyone on top of each other.

Not enough toilets in top field. Ques most of the time and due to the number of people using were not clean.

Liked: The site was very clean. Great for families and children. Showers and bathrooms were clean and tidy. The activities are great value for money. All staff are very friendly and helpful. The two ladies in the shop were fantastic! There’s a lot to do in the surrounding areas too.

Disliked: The restaurant food wasn’t the best in taste.

Liked: The park was brilliant, great activities for younger children and the pitches were spacious and scenic.
Staff were friendly

Disliked: Overpriced.
Toilet and shower facilities were dirty and in need of modernisation.
Nowhere to put clothes,towels whilst showering, dirty floors and toilets.
Complained about dirty toilets but were never cleaned throughout stay.
Also activities are only good for primary school ages, older children will find them unchallenging. The kayak and canoo area is tiny and seems pointless.

Liked: Great site. Much bigger them a remember from going as a kid.

I went on my own to test out some new camping kit as it's local to me.
Well kept with friendly staff, it was fairly quiet when I was there so was nice and peaceful.
Will definitely be using again.

I used an off grid, basic pitch and didn't do any activities so can't comment on them.

Local attractions

With its tales of Robin Hood, ancient oaks, country houses and lush leafy landscape, Sherwood Forest has something to keep most sorts content. Clumber Park (15 minutes' drive) has long avenues of limes and open heath to stroll through, while over by the Major Oak (10 minutes) you can get acquainted with one of the area's stand-out trees before setting out on several waymarked hiking routes (maps available at the visitor centre next door). Similarly close to base is Go Ape Sherwood (10 minutes), where a medley of segways and zipwires nicely complement any on-site activities you've got up to during your stay. Kids not quite old enough for that kind of activity? Fear not, as families with younger members will find plenty of age-appropriate entertainment at Wheelgate Waterpark (15 minutes) or Sundown Adventureland (20 minutes). Spending time in town is also doable here, as Walesby Forest is just over half an hour from Lincoln's castle, cathedral and urban arboretum. Meanwhile, over in Newark (30 minutes), there's Civil War heritage, antiques shops and weekly markets in a handsome Georgian square, plus hovercraft tours if you fancy something a little different.

Arrivals and departures

Late arrivals must notify the park as soon as possible. Your booking will be held for 24 hours. After this period the management reserves the right to relet your unit.
No refunds/discounts for inclement weather, late arrivals or early departures.
The park will send you further check-in information 28 day(s) before your arrival.
Units will be allocated on arrival.

Dogs

Dogs must be kept on leashes and supervised at all times.
Guide dogs are allowed on site free of charge.
Your dog must be tattooed or microchipped.

Extras

Facilities/activities including adventure activities are subject to extra charges payable on arrival.
