  • Family-run campsite on a dairy farm in the Peak District National Park
  • Access to Lathkill Dale directly from the site
  • Woodfired pizzas and ice cream sold on site
When you’re keen to get out exploring the Derbyshire Dales, you can’t get much closer to them than Haddon Grove Farm Campsite. This welcoming, family-run caravan and camping site has direct access to spectacular Lathkill Dale from the pitches. Located on a dog-friendly working dairy farm – you are welcome to meet the cows, horses and chickens – with views to the hills and dales of the Peak District National Park, the site was established in the early 1950s and has gone from strength to strength ever since. There are separate fields for family use – with play areas and rope swings – and others for group bookings, ensuring nobody gets disturbed on site. Facilities run to a shower block and wash room, and as barbecues are allowed by the pitches in the camping fields (source any foodie bits in the pretty town of Bakewell, 10 minutes’ drive), firepits can be hired on site. Logs are sold from the small on-site shop, which – more importantly for the kids – also stocks tasty ice cream from a local farm. The site also sells woodfired pizzas, which should be handy if you fancy eating something more substantial.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked So much space to choose a pitch from and the whole site was very well kept. This is including all the toilets and showers, which there were plenty of. Conveniently close to Bakewell, Buxton and a couple of other villages, and there's an Aldi 10mins up the road. Also directly on Lathkill dale so the views on the site are stunning and you can go walking straight from your tent. Would definitely recommend and stay again if I'm back in the Peaks, although I'd stay over the weekend so we could try the pizzas!

Disliked Shop was closed most of the time we were there, although there was the option to call the staff to come and open it. Also didn't get a chance to see any of the food vendors as all were only open on the weekends.

Primitive grass travel trailer campsite

Liked This is an absolutely wonderful site.
The toilet and shower blocks are spacious, clean and absolutely top notch.
Fantastic views and plenty of choice of pitches. You will almost certainly need wheel wedges to level your caravan though.
Loved being able to use a firepit and the £10 rental was WELL worth the money.
This site is central to lots of different sites that we wanted to visit. An excellent basecamp.
No wifi, but we got excellent phone reception so this wasn't a problem.
I really can't think of anything negative to say. Everyone we spoke to was happy and helpfully.
10/10.

Powered gravel and cement/asphalt travel trailer campsite

Liked Great campsite, very clean toilets and shower block, a few animals to look at, rope swings, catering vans (although the days we booked these done open) little shop which stocks essentials. The young lad running it was very friendly and accommodating.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked The amount of space that is available allows groups to get together without being on top of other people and means that noise was not a problem.

Disliked The toilet facilities and showers were decent but the water pressure was an issue at times.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Owners were friendly and polite
Choosing own space and the views were incredible
Cleanliness of facilities were great and kept immaculate
having food trucks on site

Disliked Pitch up states it had a play area which was of the reasons for booking.
However this is a rope swing which you access in certain field area.
Would be better with a full play area for the children.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked The views and the fact you can camp with a group of friends.

Disliked The shower and toilet facilities. Absolutely disgusting!!! Worse than any festival I’ve been to. The toilets were constantly backed up and unable to flush. Always out of loo roll & filthy. The showers were nothing more than a tiny drizzle and freezing cold between 8am-12pm and 5pm-11pm. We were informed by a member of staff tipping buckets of water down the loos to try and clear them that this was a constant issue: so why fill the site so full bank holiday weekend knowing this??? Greed is all we can put this down to!

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Amazing views! Lovely clean facilities. The staff were great too!

Disliked They need to work on the water pressure when very busy as some toilets stopped flushing and showers were very weak. But they were always quick to clean out the toilets.

Local attractions

Scenic walks are to be had along the namesake river in Lathkill Dale, where you can stride out towards Lathkill Head Cave (an hour and 20 minutes’ walk) or marvel at the clear springs at The Blue Waters near the peaceful village of Over Haddon (35 minutes). For a slightly longer ramble, Arbor Low Stone Circle and Gib Hill Barrow (90 minutes) reward with prehistoric monuments and ancient burial mounds. Combine your stroll around the verdant grounds at Chatsworth House with a guided tour of the mansion’s ornate rooms packed with priceless antiques, or take in the Elizabethan Walled Gardens at Haddon Hall (both 20 minutes’ drive) after you’ve admired the tapestry collection and medieval chapel. For an insight into Peak District heritage, visit the bijou Eyam Museum (also 20 minutes) in the famed ‘plague village’ to learn the story of the Bubonic Plague of 1346–52, or have a wander around the deserted remains of Magpie Mine (five minutes’ drive), which was the last working lead mine in Derbyshire and closed in 1958.
