  • No-frills farm campsite 10 minutes’ drive from Winnersh in Berkshire
  • LEGOLAND® Windsor Resort half an hour’s drive; Thorpe Park 45 minutes
  • Camping field bounded by woodland; two pubs within five minutes’ drive
When you’re looking for a slice of country living under canvas, but equally well can’t face pottering down too many country lanes, Ellis' Hill Farm Campsite will suit you very well. At 10 minutes’ drive from Winnersh in Berkshire, this peaceful farm site is close to all the major road networks. Even better news – for the kids if not your pocket – it’s within half an hour by car of family attractions like LEGOLAND® Windsor Resort and Beale Wildlife Park. Just double check the directions on your way to this splendid place, as Satnavs may direct you through a ford and you don't want to end up with a soggy bottom. Sheltered by tall trees, the camping field is mostly level, but has a few undulations. You’ll need sturdy footwear, and as it’s only mown once a year, if you’re a repeat visitor you’ll see how the meadow grows and changes through the seasons. Also be aware that there’s no electricity to hand, so bring torches for wandering around your pitch after dark. The surrounding woodland is a fascinating habitat for wildlife. Don’t be surprised if you encounter the odd deer or sneaky fox – just please make sure your food is stored away from all animal foragers. Barbecues are allowed on site, but of course you can also sneak off to the two local pubs (both around five minutes’ drive) for a pint and helpings of comfort food.

A peaceful, basic campsite with welcoming owners. Praised for spacious sites, beautiful scenery, and abundant wildlife like deer. Facilities are simple but clean. While some mention absent showers & occasional plane noise, guests enjoyed the relaxed vibe & good value for a quiet, natural getaway.

Primitive grass and earth travel trailer campsite

Liked Nature, peace, friendly owner, sausages from the shop, large open field. Never used conveniences as travelled with facilities so can’t comment but for the cost of £20 per night having any such conveniences is a bonus.

Disliked Could only stay 1 night due to other commitments

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Peaceful setting, large open field with plenty of space.

Disliked Facilities weren't great- porta loos stank enough from outside i didnt dare open the door, other ladies toilet had a hole in the floor and was a bit untidy (actual physical toilet itself clean). We're used to basic but these seemed run down. Other reviews seem happy with them so maybe got them on a bad day??
Unclear where or how to check in as farm shop was closed. Owner actually only came out when saw us driving the site as he thought we were one of the "troublesome 4x4s" that drive the nearby ford!

From the manager: Thank you for your feedback. We’re glad you liked the space. It is really pretty.

We’re sorry that you found the facilities unsatisfactory. We are aware of some damage to the floor of the ladies’ loo, and we’re working on a fix.

As regards checking in, we are always around the farm somewhere and usually see guests as they arrive. If the shop is closed and you can’t see anyone, we advise guests to give us a call so that we can greet you.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Its lovely serene, no cars allowed next to the tent so you actually get the nature feel

Disliked There's a plane flying over like every minute because it's quite close to Heathrow.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your feedback. We’re glad that you appreciated our car-free policy in the tent area. It is designed for safety and aesthetics, so it’s good to know that guests largely approve.

There is, sadly, not much we can do about our proximity to Heathrow. The runway take-off and landing patterns do vary day by day, so some days are quieter than others.

Best wishes

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked The solitude... Pitches were big and staff very welcoming and informative

Disliked Bit poking up thru tent which is understandable.. kids and dogs at 7am screaming (normal) and murder wasps in toilet block at 3 am oh and the car breaking lane to get to it ..again- totally understandable

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked How safe and welcome me and my 12 year old niece felt. Audrey and Keith are perfect hosts who really care and want you to enjoy their land. We loved the daily check in from Digger, the campsite dog!
Lovely walks from the campsite, plenty of public footpaths.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you so much for letting us know what a good time you had! It makes us very happy to know that guests feel comfortable here.

We’re also glad that you made friends with Digger. He loves his morning patrol around the pitches, to say hello to our lovely guests!

We hope to see you again soon.

Route directions

Please make sure that you use Gravelpit Hill Lane to access the site. Satnav devices often suggest Ellis’ Hill as the best route. Please don’t come this way. There is a ford which is sometimes quite deep. You need to be on the B3030 (Arborfield to Twyford or vice versa) to reach the site. Drive to the top of Gravelpit Hill Lane, and then turn right. The farm is a few hundred yards along on the left. What3words: blip.reverted.cutback.
