Looking over the river from the site

  • Site 10 minutes' walk from a river beach for swimming and fishing
  • Cosy bar on site specialising in local Breton beers
  • Easy access to Dinan, Dinard, Cancale and Saint-Malo
A flowery welcome awaits at Camping de la Ville Ger in the Côtes-d'Armor department of Brittany's north-west – as do a river beach and boat trips, canoeing and seal spotting, and a bar lined with many a Breton beer to sample… sound good? Splendid holiday setting: sorted. A beach on the Rance river is a mere 10 minutes' walk away from the site's setting near Pleudihen-sur-Rance, making it great for long leisurely days of lazily basking on the gently sloping beach, or swimming, fishing and canoeing in its calm waters. Several kilometres of hiking trails are alongside the river (you might spot a seal or two on the rocks in nearby Mordreuc) and the town makes a good base for visiting the attractions of the north-west coast of France, such as medieval Dinan and the famed island of Mont Saint-Michel. Brittany's capital Rennes is under 50 kilometres away. But you'll probably be waiting to hear about the Breton beers… The site bar has them as a speciality, so you can work your way through the lot throughout your holiday and then start sampling all over again, all among the spectacular river views of the bar terrace. The bar also sells snacks; barbecues are allowed on site, and supplies can be sorted in Pleudihen-sur-Rance: it should be pointed out that this is a town known for its Breton cider… A games room, playground and pétanque court are also on site; amenities include a launderette, a washing-up area with dishwashers and washrooms with toilets and hot showers.

Peaceful rural site with spacious pitches among apple trees. Friendly staff, great bar with local beers. Basic but clean facilities, though some need updating. Handy for attractions & St Malo ferries. Some mention no waste disposal.

Power optional grass campervan site

Liked We turned up on the 25th August quite late and the owners welcomed us and our dogs and were very understanding and accommodating with us. Gave us a lovely plot near electric box as our electric lead wasn't 25 metres.
Cooked us pizzas and had some lovely beers. Lovely people.
Parked next to 2 more welsh families which was lovely. Only stayed 1 night for ferry next day but wish we'd stayed longer.
Chickens wandering around which was funny to see and certainly entertaining for the dogs.
Stunning views across the estuary.
Definitely stay here again.

Power optional grass campervan site

Liked Stunning views, great selection of Breton beers. Only stayed one night as a stopover before a morning ferry.
Facilities basic but fine and plenty of hot water for washing up. Would have liked to do some walks from the campsite if we'd had more time - beautiful, rural location.

Power optional grass tent, caravan or trailer tent site

Liked This campsite is set in the countryside with stunning 360° views, which was the highlight of our stay. It’s very peaceful, though the nearest village is over a 40-minute walk away and has very little there, so you do need to plan ahead.
Animal lovers may enjoy the free-roaming chickens, cockerel, and neighbouring cows, but if you have reactive dogs this could be a challenge.
There is a bar on-site serving food, though we didn’t try it.
Overall, a beautiful setting with spacious pitches, but facilities could definitely be improved.

Disliked Facilities were very basic and not particularly clean. At night there was no lighting in the toilets, which made things tricky, and there were no shelves to put anything down. The shower had plenty of hot water but, again, nowhere to keep your towel, clothes, or toiletries dry while using it.
We had booked and paid for three electric pitches and one non-electric, but on arrival the host seemed surprised by the size of our group and told us we would need to share two pitches, as they couldn’t provide four. Thankfully, the pitches were large enough for us to fit comfortably, though they were scattered with fallen apples.

Power optional grass tent, caravan or trailer tent site

Liked Location is good - a very quiet and green spot on the Rance estuary.

Disliked Site is very basic with only a small toilet/shower block (4 toilets, 4 showers, no toilet paper or soap dispensers) for 120 pitches.

Unfortunately, although there was a nice welcome from the manageress when we arrived we were otherwise pretty much ignored by the people in the bar.

Power cables to motor-homes were stretched across paths and roadways - they were constantly being driven over and in places were significant trip-hazards (see photo).

Chickens running free might have been a nice touch but a rooster crowing from 4am was not!
