  • Family-friendly site 100 metres from the promenade
  • A 15-minute walk from Barmouth beach; 25 minutes to the town centre
  • Playground and a shop on site; on National Cycle Route 8
Just 100 metres from the sea, Hendre Mynach Caravan and Camping Park is a rather splendid base for a break in northwest Wales. This family-friendly site is a five-minute stroll from Barmouth’s promenade, and sandy Barmouth beach is a pleasant 15 minutes’ walk away – or a quick ride on the small land train that travels up and down the promenade. When you’re not sea fishing from the shore, taking a peaceful paddle or watching the kids bounce on the trampolines on the beach, head to Barmouth Harbour (half an hour’s walk), the departure point for boat trips and off-shore fishing. An amusement park and leisure centre are other entertainment options in town, where foodies will find plenty of cafés and restaurants. Hendre Mynach Caravan and Camping Park is a convivial spot: families, couples, friendly bikers and rallies (outside of peak season, please) are all welcome, as are backpackers and solo travellers (at a discount during low season). There’s a playground for the kids, and keen cyclists are also catered for: National Cycle Route 8 runs past the site. It’s well equipped too, with water on all pitches, washing-up facilities and a modern shower block with shaver points, hairdryer and straighteners. There’s also a launderette, baby-change facilities with a baby bath, Elsan waste disposal points, a drive-on motorhome drain, tarmac roads and CCTV. Helpful staff are available 24 hours a day, gas and wifi are sold at reception, and there’s a shop on site, plus a local bus stop nearby.

Our tent pitch was on a slope which made cooking and sleeping a nightmare
Toilets are quite a walk from tenting feild
WiFi didn’t work

From the manager: Thank you for your feedback

The toilets are less than 450 metres away, taking the size of the tent given you could have repositioned your tent to the front of the pitch, if it was possible the staff would have relocated you if asked.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked This is a large site with good facilities and an excellent location close to the beach. Nice level pitches and well maintained grounds. Despite the weather we had a really nice break and lots of good walks with the dog. Barmouth centre is a half hour walk down the prom, with typical seaside and small town shops and supermarket.

Disliked Unfortunately the facilities are a very long walk from the non electric pitches, according to Google Maps, a third of a mile! The only other thing we disliked was the press taps which really need a complete overhaul, either reluctant to give you any water or so much pressure you're splashed all over. (Also a part time staff member who gave us duff information causing some inconvenience.)

Powered grass tent, campervan or trailer tent site

Liked We visited the campsite for a weekend getaway and we absolutely loved it. The location is perfect, just a couple of minutes walk to the beach and a short drive away from Snowdonia. The facilities were clean and the staff is a real asset to the site. They were so friendly and welcoming from the moment we arrived. We will definitely return!

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked Great location. We came on the train from the midlands and the campsite is in the middle of Barmouth and llanaber station. 20 minute walk alongside the beach from Barmouth. The campsite has its own path across the railway to the beach takes a few minutes to get to the beach from the tent. There’s a cafe a couple minutes walk down the road which sells breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, desserts and drinks as well as a small shop by reception on the campsite.

Powered concrete and grass motorhome site

Liked Beautiful site and its so close to the beach and promenâd.
Pitches are flat and we had loads of space with hedging either side to divide the pitches, making it feel secluded.
Staff were friendly and treated us on arrival, they were very helpful with directions.

Disliked Showers could be improved, only 3 in the block so I had to wait, and the water spray wasn't the greatest but they were hot!

Local attractions

The burial site of Cors y Gedol (10 minutes’ drive) dates from about 4000 BC. Not much is left of the original stone mound, but the sea views alone are well worth the hike, plus you can push on to climb the slopes of Moelfre from here. If mountains are your thing, check out Penygader (35 minutes) and Snowdon (50 minutes), Wales’s highest peak. Got your mountain bike with you? Coed y Brenin Forest Park (half an hour) has eight purpose-build trails catering to all abilities and a skills area to practise your bunny hops, plus hiking paths taking in ruined copper mines, viewpoints and waterfalls. Speaking of which, at Dolgoch Falls (45 minutes), forested trails take you up close and personal to the cascades. At the Italianate-style village of Portmeirion (35 minutes), elegant architecture, pastel-coloured houses and lush subtropical gardens will have you believe you’re in Portofino. Stop for afternoon tea and don’t forget to buy some pottery.
