  • Family-owned Snowdonia site near the shore of Bala Lake
  • A short walk to watersports, boat hire and Bala Lake Railway
  • Within walking distance of Bala’s shops, restaurants and golf course
Got Snowdonia National Park in your sights? You can add a little sailing or windsurfing – and relaxation on a family-run site – into the mix when staying at Pen Y Bont Touring and Camping Park. This peaceful place is just a few hundred metres from the shore of Bala Lake (also known by its Welsh name Llyn Tegid). The fresh air of the Snowdonia National Park is sure to aid that well-awaited relaxation… and when you’re feeling fully rejuvenated (and full of tasty food from the shops and restaurants in Bala town centre, 15 minutes’ walk away), there are activities like sailing, windsurfing and boat hire around the lake. Switch up Bala Lake’s gentle ripples for the whitewater of the Tryweryn at the National White Water Centre, 10 minutes’ drive away. Adventurous souls can zoom down the 1080-metre zipwire at Zip World Llechwedd (40 minutes’ drive), climb Snowdonia’s mountains or catch a few swells at the surf lagoon at Adventure Parc Snowdonia (50 minutes). If you’d rather move at a more leisurely pace, putting a few holes as you go, there’s a golf course on the other side of Bala, half an hour’s walk away from the site. Spa days and massage treatments are available about 10 minutes' walk away too.

What customers say

Beautifully kept, super clean campsite with modern, spotless facilities (showers have underfloor heating!). Staff are friendly and helpful. Great spot for walking to Bala Lake and town. Spacious pitches and peaceful vibe make it highly recommended. A few minor notes on road noise and occasional Wi-Fi issues, but most reviews are glowing.

Fully-serviced concrete slab caravan site (XL)

Liked Immaculate site
Nice touch shower gel and warm floors
Close to walk into bala
Level pitch

Disliked Yes the lake is after the trees but no lake view or access
Pitch rate too expensive
Should really have wifi code on leaflet and more idea where to empty toilet
Building work very noisy left early

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your positive words regarding the site and amenity block.

With regards to the lake view and access - we do not advertise either of those so feel that is unfair to criticise us for that.

Again, you knew the pitch rate on booking so if you felt it was too expensive, it seems strange that you went ahead and booked anyway. The leaflets were printed before the Wi-Fi password had been set but the Wi-Fi password can be found in your Check In email and on the noticeboard at Reception.

We do apologise for the building work but unfortunately we have to start while the weather is on our side - it is a difficult decision for us to make; to decide whether to make the most of the fine weather and know that we may disrupt some guests, or leave it until the Winter when we are closed knowing that we may not get finished in time for re-opening next season if we experience bad weather during December, January and February. We try to keep it to a minimum and do take careful consideration before we begin.

Can’t fault the site staff or facilities 10 out of 10

From the manager: Thank you so much for taking the time to leave us a review, very much appreciated. Fully understand your point about the entrance, it is on our list of things that need upgrading but we can only do certain amount of improvements each winter. Glad that you enjoyed your stay with us,

8M fully-serviced concrete slab caravan site

Liked Great site, pitches are spacious and fully serviced

Disliked No wifi, it's shocking, can't even use mobile data. Yet you just go off site and it works.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review, very much appreciated. I am surprised at your comments about the wifi as it has just been upgraded with a brand new wifi code for the site. Maybe next time you stay with us you could pop into reception and we can put you on the right track.

Kind Regards

Local attractions

For those days where you can’t be bothered to walk too far, it’s very handy that the station for the narrow-gauge Bala Lake Railway is just five minutes’ walk away. Views of the water are a given, but count the mountains too: Arenig Fawr, Aran Fawddwy and Aran Benllyn are visible on the route. You may have your sights set on climbing Wales’ tallest mountain, perhaps. If you’re not climbing up Snowdon (an hour's drive) yourself, you might want to take the Snowdon Mountain Railway (an hour and five minutes), which has been making its ascent for over 100 years. A less strenuous trail than the Snowdon climb is the Mawddach Trail, which runs for just under 10 miles from Dolgellau (half an hour), crossing over the gorgeous Barmouth railway bridge on the other end. Coed y Brenin Forest Park (35 minutes) has plenty of trails too, through thick forest this time. You can take them on by mountain bike, standard bicycle or on foot – and there’s bike hire at the forest park.
