Liked: There's nothing not to like here. The site was well laid out, with the host ensuring that visitors are well spaced out from each other - I didn't hear a peep out of anyone else when I was visiting. Plenty of space on the pitches to do your own thing - I had a hammock setup, with another tarp as a chill out space and still plenty of space left over for the campfire area.
Disliked: Nothing

Liked: Absolutely outstanding! Perfect balance of wild wood camping but with wonderful facilities. Plenty of space between the pitches, we couldn’t even see anyone else unless we went for a walk. The spotlessly clean composting loos had many extra touches including solar lighting, loo paper and hand gel, even a seat adapter for younger kids. Plenty of firewood available and free fire pits to use. A horsebox to keep firewood dry that had tons of local info, and even had bug spray in case you forgot to bring some. The welcome could not have been more friendly, it felt like visiting family. Thank you so much, will definitely be back!

Liked: Lovely woodland site, feels like you're in a secluded forest instead of a campsite. Facilities are basic but clean and well maintained.

From the manager: Thank you for choosing us and taking the time to give us a review :) Our facilities are consciously made as basic as possible to give a 'nearly wild' camping experience to people wishing to camp / bivvy or hammock in woodland and be off-grid, away from modern rushed life and soak up the flora and fauna, surrounded by nature and wildlife. We were pleased you liked our site and we enjoyed meeting you all.

Liked: Gorgeous forest camping, very nice welcome and amazing access to nature. I could barely make out that other people were there, so if you're looking to have a bit of simple time on your own, this is the spot. Very reasonable prices for wood with free use of fire-pits, clean toilets, a water spout and free maps/info. I forgot to bring any utensils so made the scenic footpath walk to the local pub, The Hunters Moon, and convinced them to sell me a spoon. They gave it to me for free, after some deliberation with the chef. (I stayed for a few pints, just to show my gratitude of course). Spoon in hand not even the thunder and rain could dampen my spirits and I proceeded to have a wonderful 2 nights here watching deer and owls floating around whilst I cooked over the campfire. Will be back.

From the manager: Thank you for the amazing review, it has made us very happy that you enjoyed your stay. You were very much the 'perfect' considerate and respectful camper in your manner and how you treated the campsite. We look forward to welcoming you here again, as I'm sure our local pub will be too! So glad the weather didn't dampen your spirits and you made the most of your stay here.

Overall a disappointing stay. Far too expensive for such a basic site.

Liked: Lovely area of natural beauty, woods were pretty and everything was well kept, clean and tidy. Pitch was large with trees to hang hammocks. Composting toilets were close to pitches.
Disliked: Very overpriced for what you get. Their own website is misleading for pricing and doesn’t mention charges for parking and dogs so we were hit with extra charges before we left. Ended up paying £45 per night for a pitch with 2 people and a dog. I have stayed on Forest sites with amazing facilities and electric hook up included with 3 people and dog for less than £30 a night! Showers were cold (solar) and there were no facilities for washing up. Logs were damp so wouldn’t light. They tried to overcharge us £10 a night for a dog and £5 a night for an extra car (more than the price stated on pitch up). Trolleys were very unstable and tipped over several times on way to pitch leaving our belongings wet and muddy. Described as peaceful but noisy farm vehicles drove down track next to pitch until late at night. We left early and didn’t stay our 3rd night as hosts were not helpful in resolving our issues.

From the manager: Sadly for us we have been forced to deal with a camper like this one; who clearly didn't read ANY of our site info or enter all the relevant booking details on Pitchup's system! We indeed do charge for additional vehicles and pets - like many, many other campsites do. Our own website has NEVER included pricing as we direct potential campers to use Pitchup. Logs and Kindling have always been dry stored. Trolleys work very well when used correctly and not overloaded. We live in the countryside surrounded by farms, the one referred to hasn't operated as a farm for over 70 years. In reality we do not need to justify ourselves over this review - we have had so many lovely campers who leave honest or friendly constructive reviews. We always look forward to welcoming campers who appreciate and enjoy what we offer! 😊🎪🌳 *** FYI - The author of the reviews booking detail ...... Please can we have a pitch in the trees suitable for hanging 2 hammocks. Thank you Estimated time of arrival: 1 adult will be arriving between 2-7pm to set up but one will be later, probably 8.30pm Accommodation cost: £90.00 Total cost: £90.00 Deposit (15% commission) £13.50 Balance: £76.50 Balance outstanding: £76.50 Its a shame Lucie, her companion or dog (who was housed in a TENT after saying they wouldn't be having a tent) didn't make the most of her experience here and had so many grievances since we did not pursue or receive a full payment but endured an endless irate rant from her.

Liked: Staying in the cabin in the woods between Sherborne and Cerne Abbas and taking us back to basics and back to nature has done us the world of good. We were impressed with the size of this cabin, having a separate bedroom, toilet/shower and two sofas in the living space. I loved the warm stove and dinner by candle light listening to the sound of the woods all around us.

Liked: The welcome was great, very friendly hosts. I stayed for only one night and had the site to myself. I felt secure. The pitches are well spaced and plenty big enough for most tents. The facilities are basic but clean and tidy. If you enjoy being in the woods, this is a lovely site.
Disliked: After only one night I can't say there was anything I didn't like. I just forgot / didn't bother with an airbed or similar. The ground is very uneven, which is not a criticism it's a totally natural site, just make sure you pad out your sleeping area.

From the manager: So sorry you had noisy campers next to you, that is such a shame as we do our utmost to space everyone out, unfortunately, if we are fully booked we have to allocate pitches on a first come first serve basis and tent size (unless a pitch is specifically requested and booked well in advance), our campsite has been very busy over the last few weeks with families so I guess they are making the most of their holiday break before returning to school. Hopefully you would return for a stay during term times when most campers are mature couples or single campers!
