  • Valley site among mature trees and landscaped ponds
  • A mile from Haldon Forest Park
  • Playground and modern toilet and shower blocks
Pitching up in the River Kenn valley, on a park surrounded by Devon woodland and countryside, with mature trees and landscaped ponds complete with resident ducks… does this sound like it might fit the bill? If so, take your flock to Haldon Forest Holiday Park, five miles from Exeter and just a mile from the woodland and bike trails of the 3500-acre Haldon Forest Park. Haldon Forest has a playground on the park for kids to go out on a limb under the watchful eye of more mature types. The site also has up to date laundry facilities, plus three modern toilet and shower blocks with heating and free hot water. All in all, you’ll surely find this park all that it’s quacked up to be…

Unpowered grass campervan, tent or trailer tent site

Liked Large pitches, great facilities, not far from Exeter so great for visiting the city. It’s a perfect site for families but if it’s peace and tranquility this isn’t the site for you. It’s very family oriented with a playground in the middle and can get very busy. Also there are permanent caravans on the site.

Disliked £24 a night for grass pitch with no electric is too expensive. We have stayed at better for less.

Liked This park is ideal for a family with the added aspects of a playground and football field for the children to use. Both are safe and secure.

The facilities shower blocks and toilets are beautifully clean and well kept.

The grounds and pitches are all kept and well spaces out, so you dont feel like you are too close to other campers next to you. Pitches are a good size

Disliked The only downside to this park is that the shop and food/bar area were no longer on site, which we didnt see on the site website.

We booked for a couple of days impromptually, thinking food options would be easy, however having to go to the local services made our stay more expensive than we wanted it to be.

Local amenities such as supermarkets and takeaways were over 15 minutes away from the site, so when we gor back woth a take away it was not hot. We only stayed the one night instead of two.

It's a real shame that the shop and food/bar couldn't make it work on site. As when we stayed 2 years ago as a a large family group, it was a great aspect to have on site.

Liked Location, space of pitches, lovely owners.

Disliked We missed the food area and marquee that used to be there. Could maybe do with another toilet and shower block.

Could be a gem with some TLC and better rubbish collection.

Liked Friendly welcome.
Flexible pitching arrangements...lots of space.
Modern toilet block with good supply of hot water.
Lovely setting.

Disliked Rubbish bins, especially recycling, not adequate. Irresponsible campers wrongly mixing recycling up and dumping stuff by, rather than in the bins.
Some of the play equipment needs attention, with planks' rusty nails sticking out.
Toilet block could do with a deep clean! It was kept ok on a day to day basis.
Not the fault of the site...but some unpleasant behaviour....feral children running around and shouting in the dark, as late as 11pm. Children going fast on electric bikes, parents driving fast in cars!!

Liked Campsite overall was nice, entrance was lovely although not the easiest to get to. Pretty relaxed and sense of freedom. Good park for the kids.

Disliked Felt a little unkept, one shower/toilet block out of use, uneven pitches.

Local attractions

Bring the bikes to Devon or hire wheels at Haldon Forest Park to take full advantage of the miles of woodland mountain bike and cycle trails for various levels of ability. Discovery trails, play equipment and several walking trails are also in the forest park including the circular Butterfly Trail and the easy-rated Mamhead Sensory Trail with gorgeous views along the Jurassic Coast and over the Exe estuary. A ten mile horse riding trail is also around for more relaxed forest sightseeing, with horse riding of a different type at the forest’s Exeter Racecourse. Dartmoor National Park, with more hacking, hiking and biking as well as tor climbing, guided walks and geocaching, is a short drive from the holiday park. It has regular events throughout the year, towns and villages to take in, the famous Dartmoor ponies to spot and Dartmoor Zoo with meerkats, monkeys, lions and more. Bring binoculars along with the bikes: the forest park and surrounding area are wildlife havens, with rare birds of prey and wild deer in the forest itself and birdwatching a few miles away at the Site of Special Scientific Interest the Exe Estuary: watch oystercatchers showing excellent culinary taste in breaking open mussels at Bull Hill or take a trip to the nature reserve at Dawlish Warren at the estuary’s mouth. If you’re bringing along the bikes, the National Cycle Network Exe Estuary Trail runs to Exmouth from Dawlish. The sublime sand of Dawlish Warren is one of several South Devon sandy stretches, with the beaches at Teignmouth, Exmouth and Torbay within easy distance of Haldon Forest and the coastal towns of Torquay and Paignton a little further along the coast. Exmouth is the place to don the wetsuit as it’s known for watery sports of all types including diving, windsurfing and sailing; it’s also a gateway town to the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site. Finally, a stay at Haldon Forest has to include a day or two in Exeter to see its twelfth century cathedral, medieval Guildhall and famous historic quayside with antique shops, restaurants, canoe and boat trips and events such as dragon boat racing and guided tours.
