  • Small family-run site with Ribble Valley views in Lancashire
  • A 20-minute drive to Gisburn Forest bike paths, Pendle Hill and Settle
  • Dog-friendly site with dedicated exercise area; pub 15 minutes’ walk
Keen to have a look at Lancashire and a sneaky peek into Yorkshire? Lurk for a while at Calder Farm for a peaceful break with views to Pendle Hill in the spectacular Ribble Valley. This is a scenic pitstop for exploring the Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (10 minutes’ drive) or hopping counties into the Yorkshire Dales National Park (20 minutes). Sparkling clean facilities on this family-run site include a heated toilet block with disabled access to the showers and washing-up area. Barbecues are permitted (but not open campfires please), and you’ll need to bring your own firepit, although you can buy wood on site and picnic tables are provided on the tree-sheltered field. Stock up on barbecue supplies in the supermarkets of Clitheroe (15 minutes’ drive), and if you’re just not that into cooking on your Lancashire camping break, there’s a gastro-pub and microbrewery in the pretty village of Bolton by Bowland (15 minutes’ walk). Your family dogs are welcome to join you on the many footpaths direct from the site, and there’s also a dedicated dog-exercise area in a fenced field – the owners do ask, however, that dogs remain on a lead while around the site. And talking of animals, you’ll soon be firm friends with the horses and ponies grazing neighbouring fields.

Liked Cute, cosy, laid back site.

You pitch up wherever is available and there is plenty of space.

Good quality, level pitches.

Really quite site, great location and only 10 minute walk from a lovely pub called Coach and Horses.

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked Friendly staff, plenty of space to pitch when we visited (non electric). Good price, facilities adequate. Relatively quiet site.

Disliked Site was not that busy despite it being a summer weekend - as a results the facilities were fine (2 toilets for women). However there was a lots more space to pitch so had it been busier there could be a lot of pressure on the limited facilities.

Have stayed around the area before - is quiet and good for adults who like walks and pubs with good food. Personally I think attractions are more limited for older children (10 ish) and wouldn’t necessarily recommend the area for this age group (over other options)

Liked Location was fab and I liked that on arrival you could just choose any hard standing pitch available which were generous in size. Plenty of water points. Two loos, hand basins and two showers separate from the family/disabled one. Outside covered wash up area. Nice walk to village along road or over the fields, quaint PO/cafe/shop, and easy circular walk nearby. Pub was lovely, restaurant part bit pricey but very nice food. They also have a lunch time bar menu and have a lovely garden with lots of seating. Easy access to Ingleton Waterfall Trail, Settle and Ribblehead Viaduct, Skipton for great market, canal boat trips or steam train ride from Embsay. Weather was so good so didn't do usual amount of walking but Gisburn Forest good for a shady walk.

Disliked My only gripe was that the lovely facilities were not very clean but showers were nice and hot. I'm used to campers mopping up after themselves when showering, however no sign up to do this so perhaps other campers did not know. The mop and bucket was empty most of the week but I did sweep and mop the floor areas a couple of times myself.

Liked Everything was very organised with clear signs and instructions exactly where it is needed. Site and facilities immaculately clean. Never met the owners / managers but never needed to it was all very smooth and clear. Proper waste disposal as well for black and grey waste (drive over), unlike some sites we’ve stayed on recently! Lovely pub as well about 10 mins walk across a couple of fields, again clear directions on the notice board.

Liked Great site, well located for visiting the Forest of Bowland. Views of Pendle Hill and countryside. Facilities were good, there’s only 2 showers and 2 cubicles in each block but it wasn’t a problem despite the campsite being full.

Disliked The no noise after 10.30 pm rule was not enforced and one group of campers were very loud, drinking and using bad language until 1am. Fortunately we only had to put up with them for one night as they left the next morning.
Would have been nice to have a proper welcome, we never really met the owner.
