  • Campsite with spectacular views over Dentdale in the Yorkshire Dales
  • Settle-Carlisle Railway 10 minutes’ drive; Lake District 35 minutes
  • The Woolshed and Dent Village Heritage Centre and Museum both on site
Yorkshire dales don’t come much prettier than Dentdale, or Yorkshire dales villages much prettier than Dent, so staying at High Laning Caravan & Camping Park means you get double lucky. The site’s less than five minutes’ walk from the village, and all the pitches look out over the breathtaking scenery of Dentdale, right on the western edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. This family-run site is set on a traditional dales farm, still working after many years and generations. Pitches are spacious and handily close to the shops, pubs and cafés of Dent, while major supermarket top-ups can be done in Sedbergh (15 minutes’ drive). However, you don’t have to wander very far from your pitch to learn about Yorkshire dales history; High Laning Farm is home to both the Dent Village Heritage Centre and Museum (featuring tall tales about The Terrible Knitters of Dent and the Dent Vampire), and The Woolshed, a purpose-built emporium selling hand-crafted woollen knitwear. If that doesn’t appeal, there are endless walking paths through and around Dent for walkers, along with miles of road cycling through stunning scenery. If the dales themselves can’t keep you all happily occupied and entertained, the family attractions of the Lake District National Park are only 35 minutes’ drive.

What customers say

Great Dent village location, lovely scenery, good local pubs & walks. Staff welcoming, facilities clean. Some found it overcrowded on bank holidays, with cramped pitches & disorganisation. Coin showers a niggle for a few.

Liked Location is stunning! Cafe at heritage centre excellent with lovely ice cream and rain shelter. Village shop and pubs are so close I didn't need to use campsite shop. Toilet block well looked after. Friendly crowd of campers.

Disliked £35 a night and pay extra for a shower? Really? If there was another campsite in the valley they would take all your business for that reason alone.
No icepack freezer.
Showers and farm shop well hidden at top of seasonal pitches so not used.
Didn't enjoy fighting past stinking full-to-brim bins to get to dishwashing point

Liked This is a great campsite, and I have been many times. But this weekend it was very overbooked, so it was more like Glastonbury than an idillic remote campsite in the Dales

Liked Setting was beautiful, nice clean site, clean toilets.

Disliked It was very busy and felt crammed in,tents were very close to each other. Booked electric pitch. Told where to pitch and was at least maybe 50 foot away from a point to hook up so had to pay a deposit (refundable) of £30 for an extension lead. Our lead is about 20 foot and nearest point was full.

Liked The scenery

Disliked Couldn't see much of the scenery. The camp-site was overcrowded. Guide ropes overlapped with neighbouring tents. No space for children to play, barely any space to sit out front of the tent as the cars were parked so close. Would not return.

Liked Good location to explore.
Close to local pubs and village shop.
Nice cafe at entrance to site.

Disliked Toilets could do with a freshen up.
Bank holiday weekend resulting in site being very busy and allocation of pitches uncoordinated.
Pre booked grass pitch but was located on small concrete plot with no area to sit outside.

Local attractions

From High Laning Farm you can explore the entire Yorkshire Dales National Park; start with pretty market towns like Sedbergh (15 minutes’ drive) and Hawes (half an hour), and then drive the dramatically scenic Buttertubs Pass (35 minutes). Make the most of the fresh air with a walk on the Ingleton Waterfalls Trail (half an hour), or hike up to the single cascade at Cautley Spout (20 minutes). Turn west towards the Lake District to treat the kids to an afternoon feeding farm animals and riding around on go-karts at the Lakeland Maze Farm Park (40 minutes). Families can also take wolves for a walk at Predator Experience (45 minutes), or see rare snow leopards and Madagascan fossas at the Lakeland Wildlife Oasis (40 minutes). If you fancy letting something else do the hard work, climb aboard the Settle-Carlisle Railway from Dent village (10 minutes), from where you have superb views over Dentdale. Stop off at Ribblehead to take a selfie underneath the soaring 24 spans of Ribblehead Viaduct, or venture onwards to Settle for afternoon tea or a pint of Yorkshire beer in one of the welcoming pubs.
