  • Relaxed family-run site in the Forest of Dean and Wye Valley
  • Near Clearwell Caves, Puzzlewood, Cannop Ponds and Go Ape
  • Space to play, huge grassy pitches and close to a forest
Picture your next break among green space, woodland walks and cycling trails in the peaceful woodland setting of the famed Forest of Dean, on the edge of the market town of Coleford… You'll get a warm welcome at this relaxed, family-run and family-friendly park, in an area surrounded by ancient castles and abbeys, smashing scenery and miles of waymarked walking and biking trails. As Greenacres Campsite is right in the middle of the Forest of Dean, across the road from a woodland and within walking distance of the River Wye, it's in a good spot for fishing, bike rides and long woodland strolls, as well as easy access to attractions such as Clearwell Caves, Puzzlewood, Cannop Ponds and Go Ape at Mallards Pike Lake. Set in a field that stretches across two acres within an 11-acre smallholding, pitches are spacious, level and grassy, and the park is surrounded by huge mature trees that provide good shade and shelter from the elements. Kids should be kept very well occupied at the excellent playground less than five minutes' stroll away, where there's also plenty of space to for ball games and dog walking. Barbecues and campfires are allowed: most handy if you land yourself a fish or two in the Wye or decide to pick up a few sausages in Coleford… Otherwise, there's a good traditional English pub in Newland, a short walk away, and another in Staunton within a 30-minute woodland ramble. The wider local area has plenty of pubs, restaurants and takeaways (many of which are happy to deliver straight to the site).

What customers say

A clean, well-kept park with generous, flat spots and a chill vibe. Staff are super friendly, facilities spotless. Great on-site shop/cafe. Perfect base for Forest of Dean/Wye Valley. Note: play area better for older kids, access road's a bit rough. Highly recommended!

Power optional concrete and grass caravan site

Liked Beautiful campsite with excellent pitches that are very spacious. Campsite is very clean and well maintained and there is an excellent little shop on site. The site has great dog walking straight from the site. The staff are friendly and welcoming. The site is also situated away from any major road so it has no traffic noise.

Disliked There is no noise control and we had two days off loud music and screaming kids from a massive group gathering. There are no private sinks in the toilets for brushing teeth.

From the manager: Thank you for your review - we are very pleased you enjoyed your stay and look forward to welcoming you back.

I am sorry to hear that your stay was adversely affected by the noise from the family group gathering - they are returning guests and are usually very respectful of our noise policy (music off at 10pm and quiet time between 10pm and 8am). Please do call us on the mobile number given if you are affected by other people's behaviour when on site - we are happy to step in and resolve any issues.

We also appreciate your feedback about private sinks in the facilities – it’s helpful for us to know when considering future improvements. We hope we’ll have the chance to welcome you back again for a quieter and even more enjoyable stay!

Power optional grass site

Liked We stayed at Greenacres Campsite this weekend with my partner and our 3-year-old and had an amazing time. The site is lovely, really well kept, and has a welcoming, relaxed feel. It’s a great spot for families, safe, spacious and with everything you need close by. Our little one loved the open space to play, and we really enjoyed the peaceful setting. A brilliant place to get away and we’ll definitely be coming back!

Power optional grass site

Liked Excellent facilities, clean and new toilet block. Well maintained. Site very quiet after 10pm. Flat pitch’s. Lovely little shop selling breakfast, snacks and camping essentials. Just off main road. Easy walk into Coleford 15mins (down then up a hill). Local park close - 5 min walk. Lots to do locally so don’t have to drive out to far to find things to do. Very friendly staff.

Disliked Play area could have been more suitable for younger children.

Power optional concrete and grass caravan site

Liked The campsite was beautiful, everything nice and clean and flat pitches. Facilities were nice and everything was easy to find in terms of bins, waste etc. A really nice walk from the campsite onto a public footpath if you ask for directions from reception.

Disliked Cafe breakfast in the morning seemed a bit unorganised and made our departure much later than expected. We ordered some breakfast rolls and were told to come back in 20 minutes but didn’t actually receive them for an hour which was a little frustrating!
Arrival information could have been a bit more welcoming - a long list of rules and things not to do which is to be expected but maybe could have been followed up with nearby walks and activity information or listed some of the fun things that were included in the site.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thanks for your feedback. I can only apologise for the wait for the breakfast rolls - it was quiet so we put some extra cakes in the oven and then we got super busy! Lesson learnt!
There is information on local activities - I am sorry that you do not seem to have been made aware of this.

Local attractions

Outdoorsy types are well catered to around here, with canoeing and paddleboarding at Symonds Yat Rock, archery and clay pigeon shooting in St Briavels, and pony trekking at Bream. If you're into golfing, then you're also in luck: Coleford has two courses, both less than 10 minutes' drive away. Follow the walking trail through the ancient 14-acre forest of Puzzlewood – the location for the filming of Dr Who, Star Wars, Merlin and Atlantis – to see rock formations and twisted trees, or visit Clearwell Caves to learn about the forest's 4,500-year ore and ochre mining heritage, both within a couple of easy miles of the site. Heaps of historic spots are within easy reach of Greenacres Campsite too, including Tintern Abbey's ruins and the castles of Raglan, Goodrich and Chepstow. The Dean Heritage Centre is a short drive away in the valley of Soudley, and comes highly recommended by Greenacres staff.
