  • Relaxed family-run site in the Forest of Dean and Wye Valley
  • Near Clearwell Caves, Puzzlewood, Cannop Ponds and Go Ape
  • Space to play, huge grassy pitches and close to a forest
Picture your next break among green space, woodland walks and cycling trails in the peaceful woodland setting of the famed Forest of Dean, on the edge of the market town of Coleford… You'll get a warm welcome at this relaxed, family-run and family-friendly park, in an area surrounded by ancient castles and abbeys, smashing scenery and miles of waymarked walking and biking trails. As Greenacres Campsite is right in the middle of the Forest of Dean, across the road from a woodland and within walking distance of the River Wye, it's in a good spot for fishing, bike rides and long woodland strolls, as well as easy access to attractions such as Clearwell Caves, Puzzlewood, Cannop Ponds and Go Ape at Mallards Pike Lake. Set in a field that stretches across two acres within an 11-acre smallholding, pitches are spacious, level and grassy, and the park is surrounded by huge mature trees that provide good shade and shelter from the elements. Kids should be kept very well occupied at the excellent playground less than five minutes' stroll away, where there's also plenty of space to for ball games and dog walking. Barbecues and campfires are allowed: most handy if you land yourself a fish or two in the Wye or decide to pick up a few sausages in Coleford… Otherwise, there's a good traditional English pub in Newland, a short walk away, and another in Staunton within a 30-minute woodland ramble. The wider local area has plenty of pubs, restaurants and takeaways (many of which are happy to deliver straight to the site).

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked A really lovely site that we hope to visit again one day. Big pitches, spotlessly clean facilities and a little shop. Great for people with kids. Lots of places to walk the dog nearby

Disliked Only thing that would be useful is a little shower shelf to put the shampoo/ shower gel on as difficult for people with limited mobility.

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked Lovely site great facilities, we had pizzas from the onsite kitchen which were great. Really nice 15 minute walk into town.

Disliked Showers only stay on for maximum 10 secs before you have to push the button again very annoying. The road up is not great and needs maintenance.

Electric optional grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Absolutely fabulous campsite! From the moment we arrived, everything exceeded our expectations. The site was spotless, well-maintained, and set in beautiful surroundings that made it perfect for a relaxing getaway. The facilities were excellent – clean, modern, and clearly well looked after.
The owners were incredibly friendly and helpful, always going above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. It felt safe, welcoming, and very family-friendly. The staff were amazing and helpful.
Lots of places to walk, 15,20 minutes walk to the town, Big big 5 minutes walk with fields so the dog could exercise.
We especially loved the peaceful atmosphere and how well everything was organised. It’s clear a lot of care and attention goes into running this campsite.
We’ll definitely be returning and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a perfect camping experience!

Electric optional hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked Nice little site on the top of a hill, loads of space and quiet. Good walk down into the town but uphill on the way back.

Disliked At first sight the uphill entrance looks awkward but it is easily managed.

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked Clean , friendly , quiet site, lovely toilet /shower block . Handy little shop, walkable pub 15 mins .

Disliked Lack of water supply/taps .only found 1 working. Entry track quite bad/rough.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your feedback. We’re glad you enjoyed your stay with us.

We appreciate you highlighting the issue with the water taps - they’re all up and running now. As it was our first weekend of the season, we had a small hiccup with getting them de-winterised, but that’s now been sorted.

We understand the entry track has been a concern for some guests. We’ve been working hard to secure planning permission for a new drive, which unfortunately has been delayed, with a revised decision date of 1st May. In the meantime, we’ve decided to resurface the existing track and hope to have that work completed in the next couple of weeks before the busy season begins.

Thanks again for your comments – they help us keep improving!

Electric optional hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked We recently stayed at Greenacres Campsite in the Forest of Dean, and we can’t recommend it highly enough! From the moment we arrived, Maureen and Andy made us feel completely welcome — they clearly pour their hearts into running the site, and it shows in every detail.
The location is absolutely fantastic for walking, with beautiful routes right on the doorstep. Whether you’re after a gentle stroll or a longer adventure, you’re spoiled for choice.
The facilities are truly top-notch — spotless, well-designed, and thoughtfully maintained. It’s one of the cleanest, best-run campsites we’ve visited.
If you’re looking for a peaceful, friendly place to stay with great access to stunning walks, Greenacres should be at the top of your list. We are already planning our next visit when they re-open for the 2026 season!

Disliked That they are not open all year !

Local attractions

Outdoorsy types are well catered to around here, with canoeing and paddleboarding at Symonds Yat Rock, archery and clay pigeon shooting in St Briavels, and pony trekking at Bream. If you're into golfing, then you're also in luck: Coleford has two courses, both less than 10 minutes' drive away. Follow the walking trail through the ancient 14-acre forest of Puzzlewood – the location for the filming of Dr Who, Star Wars, Merlin and Atlantis – to see rock formations and twisted trees, or visit Clearwell Caves to learn about the forest's 4,500-year ore and ochre mining heritage, both within a couple of easy miles of the site. Heaps of historic spots are within easy reach of Greenacres Campsite too, including Tintern Abbey's ruins and the castles of Raglan, Goodrich and Chepstow. The Dean Heritage Centre is a short drive away in the valley of Soudley, and comes highly recommended by Greenacres staff.
