  • Well-equipped Derbyshire touring site with easy access from the A517
  • A 10-minute drive to Ashbourne and the edge of the Peak District
  • Dog-friendly site a mile from Hulland Ward's village pub and farm shop
Parking up for the Peak District? Take your tourer off to Ashbourne Touring and Camping Park, a well-equipped park in a handy spot just off the A517 a mile from the village of Hulland Ward. Easy access from the main road means it’s nice and straightforward to get set up at this Derbyshire site – and that location also means you’ll be handily close to the village’s pub and farm shop (a useful source of supplies for your barbecue back at base). Bus services from the stop just outside can take you into nearby Ashbourne – or you can drive over there in about 10 minutes. In fact, everything here has been designed to make life nice and easy for guests, with well-kept ample toilet and shower facilities, a chemical disposal area, a washing-up area and a launderette provided. Dogs are welcome to join you on site as long as they're well behaved. The wifi service provided is also likely to come in handy, given that you'll probably want to plan lots of days out around the area. The edge of the Peak District National Park is about 10 minutes' drive away, as is the start of the traffic-free Tissington Trail, so you'll be in a good position for getting out to explore the lovely landscapes. And there are plenty of other attractions around too, including Alton Towers and the Chatsworth estate.

What customers say

A tidy, peaceful spot with good space and staff. Toilets and showers get a tick. Handy for attractions and walks. Wi-Fi can be spotty, and traffic/camper noise happens. A few found pitches or loos iffy when busy.

Liked Lovely friendly staff on arrival! Great sized pitch. Toilets close to tent pitches. Shower block clean.
Good base to go for different walks in the peaks.

Disliked Wifi was very poor, much to our children’s dismay.
Out of the sites control, but there was a large group of people who seemed incapable of talking quietly at night, singing at nearly midnight!

Powered concrete slab caravan site

Liked This was a very quiet site despite being quite a large one with over 80 pitches. We went with friends in their camper and the site put us in next door pitches, as requested, and even suggested we swap the pitches they'd allocated so we could set up the awnings next to each other. The showers and loo's were clean and hot water not a problem.

Disliked It was quite a treck to the bins at the entrance to the site and no recycling was apparent.
We also thought the gap to go through to the lower part of the site was quite tight to get the caravan through because of the turning angle.
Lastly, the further you got from the office the less the WiFi worked so the reception where we were was quote poor. Maybe a booster in the lower part of the site could solve this??

Liked Reception was manned when we arrived and the gentleman there was very helpful and showed us to our pitch. (Be warned you need rock pegs this time of year if you want to put up an awning on the hardstanding). Despite there not being a shop, reception sold drinks and basic supplies.

Toilet and shower block together with the dish washing area were clean with plenty of hot water despite the site being full. Yes, it isn't all mod cons but perfectly usable, with floor squeegees available to clear up any excess water left after showering.
There was the inevitable queue for the ladies showers in the morning, partly because the site was full, partly because younger children tend to shower with their mums so the turn around wasn't that quick, however we showered before we went to bed to avoid the queue.

The Wifi is at its strongest at reception and tails off quite quickly as you move away. We did see a repeater near the toilet blocks but it clearly wasn't work. It wasn't really an issue as we had downloaded some things to watch before we left for the site. EE phone reception however was shocking, sometimes it wouldn't even send a message.

Everyone seemed to respect the quiet hours and we slept really well.

Would happily pitch up there again.

Disliked The only thing we felt was missing was a place to recycle cans/cardboard/bottles etc. That said, we just brought it home with us to recycle.
