There aren’t many parts of the world where motor racing fans and nature watchers can all appreciate a splendid holiday, but this site in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region manages to achieve it. Camping La Vallée de Taradeau is in a quiet, semi-shaded location, just five minutes' drive away from canoeing and kayaking on the Argens river, and half an hour from the 2.2-kilometre Circuit du Var. It's also 30 kilometres from the sea. All tastes are covered too at this fine French site, with a heated pool (open from the end of March to the end of October), two outdoor Jacuzzis, and a year-round indoor hamam, Jacuzzi and sauna to complete it all. Stir from your steamy reveries if you must to pick up fresh bread (upon reservation), or to take a few steps to the bar or restaurant (both open during high season only) for meals to eat on site or take away, as well as good cocktails. Activities for adults and children are organised during the summer, and to add to that, there is a playground and fitness equipment on site. As well as watery antics, nearby Vidauban (five minutes’ drive) has zipwire thrills at its Provence Aventure park and a plentiful spread of eats, drinks and supermarkets.

Disliked: Damp and large debris from large trees fell onto our RV. Stayed out of season but can imagine well shaded by number of trees in warmer seasons.

Liked: Ben organizzato, anche per chi è di passaggio e magari arriva alle 23h come noi! Piazzole ben delimitate, su fondo ghiaioso e/o erboso, circondate da vegetazione ben curata. Decori natalizi all’ingresso molto accoglienti (noi siamo stati una notte viaggiando dalla Spagna all’Italia di rientro da una vacanza di tre settimane). Bagni riscaldati!! Acqua più che calda ad ogni ora. Servizi puliti. Docce ampie. Il tutto in bassa stagione (il camping è aperto tutto l’anno e ovviamente la sua alta stagione è l’estate). Comodo lo scarico delle acque grigie e nere. Molto funzionale il carico dell’acqua pulita sul camper. Illuminazione notturna gradevole e ben presente.

Disliked: I bagni misti: donne e uomini insieme.

Liked: Piazzole ampie e molto pulite, bagni puliti e caldi. Giochi x bambini curati. Piscina presente. Bellissimi addobbi natalizi.

Disliked: Vicini indispettiti per un passaggio davanti alla loro piazzola per urgenza di un bambino che andava al bagno...hanno fatto tirare un cavo rigido basso per "chiudere" il passaggio, peccato fosse utile per accedere alla colonnina della corrente.

Wir waren im DEZEMBER da. Die Sanitärräume waren beheizt und sehr sauber, i.mer warmes Wasser.
Der Wellness Bereich mit Sauna, wirlpool und Hamam waren sehr nett.

Disliked: Die Zufahrt-Straße ist holprig, etwas zu wenig Beleuchtung auf den Wegen

Local attractions

Mountains or water? It’ll be a toss up every day here: if it’s hills you’re after, head half an hour by car to the Massif des Maures, a protected wilderness of trails through the umbrella pines and cork oaks home to the rare Hermann’s tortoise. If hitting the beach is your bag, it’s half an hour to the sands, swims and people watching of Sainte-Maxime and Fréjus, and the celebrity strip of Saint-Tropez is an hour away. Also an hour away, the turquoise lake of Lac de Sainte-Croix, in the midst of deep gorges (the lake's often called the French Grand Canyon), is temptingly swimmable from motorboats, canoes and pedalos. For further wilderness experiences, it’s 50 minutes to the ports of Toulon and Hyères and boats to the islands of Porquerolles and Port-Cros: as well as a refreshing zip across the waves, expect quiet beaches, colourful marine reserves for snorkelling and winding paths for coastal wanders. For the members of your party most hard to impress, call in on the flumes, chutes and slides of Aqualand (35 minutes), and 50 minutes away, the rides and spectaculars of Magic World and the go-kart tracks at Hyères.
