  • Friendly Eryri/Snowdonia site on the banks of the River Glaslyn
  • Yr Wyddfa/Snowdon Watkin Path five minutes' drive away
  • Beddgelert's cafés, pubs and railway station less than a mile away
What a gorgeous spot for a break in the fresh air of Eryri/Snowdonia National Park. Cae Du Campsite is on the banks of the River Glaslyn less than a mile from the pretty village of Beddgelert. Now, if you’ve heard of Beddgelert, that may well be because it’s known as something of a hub for approachable walking trails, and it’s got a Welsh Highland Railway station – and both of these elements make it a good base for exploring your surroundings. On top of that, the village has its own attraction in the form of Gelert’s Grave, and it’s got several pubs, cafés and craft shops too. The walks from Beddgelert aren’t the only options around here, of course – in fact, one of the national park’s big (literally) attractions is just up the road in the form of Yr Wyddfa/Mount Snowdon. It’ll take you about five minutes to drive to the trailhead for the Watkin Path, passing the pretty Llyn Dinas lake as you go (handy for a post-climb wild swim perhaps?) And there’s plenty more to keep you busy… including a short walk to the excellent Sygun Copper Mine, an outing to the beach in Porthmadog, an adrenaline-filled excursion to Zip World Llechwedd or history-tinged wanders around the castles of Criccieth and Caernarfon. Little bit tired after whichever outing you chose? Well, there’s plenty of space to relax back at the park, and you should hopefully sleep well in these peaceful surroundings. Wifi, a washing-up area, a launderette and bathrooms with toilets and showers are on hand to make life comfortable, and you’ll be allowed to bring a barbecue or light a campfire to finish your day in traditional camping style.

What customers say

Lovely campsite with mountain and river views, close to Beddgelert village. Staff are friendly, pitches are spacious, and facilities are clean. Great for hiking in Snowdonia. Mostly peaceful, though WiFi can be weak and some found showers a bit dated or midges bothersome.

Electric grass campervan or tent pitch

Liked Location was perfect and the pitches were well maintained. The lady that checked us in was super friendly. The extra field for families or children wanting to play was a nice touch, and it had a few picnic benches. It was a short walk to the local town which had a gift shop and lots of pubs and restaurants. Short drive to Mt Snowdon. Didn’t try out the activities but there was plenty of water sports at the lakes nearby.

Disliked There was no small shop on site just for basic things such as firewood. A shop isn’t essential but it would have made a nice touch. The shower block seemed a bit worn, and a lot of people didn’t use the squeegee after they’d been in, which takes 2 seconds, just to make it slightly more pleasant for the next person using it. We were made to sign a disclaimer as we travelled with two other couples regarding understanding the site rules and quiet time, however there were others that clearly ignored that, that weren’t part of a group and blasting music until midnight.

Electric hardstanding and grass motorhome pitch

Liked Location is beautiful, short walk to Beddgelert, nice site with lots of facilities

Disliked Didn’t find it was well managed, bins full, toilets without toilet rolls, lots of rules which we were comfortable with, but nobody stuck to them and nobody reminded those clearly not following. I paid for pitch with water, but there wasn’t any water, tap close by, but another pitch constantly hooked up. Not good value

Electric grass campervan or tent pitch

Liked Had a brilliant stay at Cae du campsite.
Stunning location with 360 views of woodland and mountains and a very pleasant flat stroll along the river bank (about 15 minutes) to the picturesque village with its gift shops, cafes, pubs and well stocked convenience store. Both pubs offer lovely food and the local ice cream parlour is also a pizza cafe although we did not try this.
Staff at the site were very friendly and helpful and even accepted an Amazon delivery for us after a minor tent emergency where an urgent repair patch had to be ordered.
Pitches are spacious and despite very heavy rain were clear of standing water.
Good facilities with free hot showers, a sheltered washing up area and a communal information area with helpful guides and maps of local walks and days out. There is also a laundry room which we didnt use.
Lots to do in area and we visited Anglesey, Llandudno and hiked Snowdon.
We just had a lovely six nights with friends relaxing onsite by the fire pit and spending days out. I would highly recommend and we will definitely be back.

Disliked The site lacked a little shop for essential items such as milk just to save the walk into the village.
Quiet time :- we have stayed on numerous sites in the past with quiet times enforced. These are usually around 11pm. We felt 9:30pm was a little early, especially while it is still broad daylight.
Regarding quiet time, we were camping with friends (all couples) and provided booking reference numbers and requested we be pitched next to each other. This was very kindly accommodated (thank you) however, all bookings were sent an email regarding quiet time and told in no uncertain terms if there was any loud and rowdy behaviour we would be told to leave the site.
This is fair enough, nobody wants rowdy drunken behaviour including us and we were quiet and respectful throughout our stay.
It was disappointing then that on the Saturday night when other weekenders had arrived there was music playing at 22:30 and kids playing football in the field.
This did not affect our stay at all but we would have liked to play music later and chatted but because of the email we'd been sent felt we weren't able to. It seems groups of adults have a different set of rules to follow than families.

Electric hardstanding and grass motorhome pitch

Liked The site was very pretty and had great access to the the river and the footpath into the village. The facilities were very clean and easy to use. The staff were freiendly and helpful when checking in. The water tap behind the hard standing pitches was really useful!

Liked Large spacious pitches in well maintained grounds.
Helpful, friendly staff.
A large site but very peaceful and quiet.
Excellent location in the Snowdonia Hills but close to a village.
An abundance of walks straight off site.
Good, well maintained amenity blocks.
Barriered access and ecit for security.

Disliked Could do with a fenced area to allow dogs off lead.

Electric hardstanding and grass motorhome pitch

Liked Beautiful views extremely clean facilities friendly and very helpful staff.
Dog walks very clear and well maintained , nice clear pitches with a grass area dedicated to the hard area. Water points on each hard ground pitch. Nice and quiet at night a 15min leisurely walk in to town from the site The Internet worked really well
The river was a welcome relief on the hottest of days there are shallow parts to sit in and deeper points to immerse oneself in
Is the best campsite we have stayed in by a country mile and will be coming back

Disliked People don't believe it when you say it is perfect and nothing should change so to come up with a constructive comment
The waste disposal grey and toilet waster could be better positioned near the wash facilities as most sites might have to do all ablutions and tasks in one area and you can wash your hands afterwards but it is nit picking and only one nit!
Going even further in to realms of 'out of the box thinking' a huge change would be an affordable supplies shop selling basics like bread eggs milk etc as the cost in town at the one shop was exorbitant and would have meant we wouldn't have had to leave the site.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Great pitch and campsite. Plenty of space and facilities. Very close to the village, only a short walk. Quiet, no vehicle noise, just the sound of the river.

Disliked No temperature control on the showers, but not really a problem.
