  • Friendly Eryri/Snowdonia site on the banks of the River Glaslyn
  • Yr Wyddfa/Snowdon Watkin Path five minutes’ drive away
  • Beddgelert’s cafés, pubs and railway station less than a mile away
What a gorgeous spot for a break in the fresh air of Eryri/Snowdonia National Park. Cae Du Campsite is on the banks of the River Glaslyn less than a mile from the pretty village of Beddgelert. Now, if you’ve heard of Beddgelert, that may well be because it’s known as something of a hub for approachable walking trails, and it’s got a Welsh Highland Railway station – and both of these elements make it a good base for exploring your surroundings. On top of that, the village has its own attraction in the form of Gelert’s Grave, and it’s got several pubs, cafés and craft shops too. The walks from Beddgelert aren’t the only options around here, of course – in fact, one of the national park’s big (literally) attractions is just up the road in the form of Yr Wyddfa/Mount Snowdon. It’ll take you about five minutes to drive to the trailhead for the Watkin Path, passing the pretty Llyn Dinas lake as you go (handy for a post-climb wild swim perhaps?) And there’s plenty more to keep you busy… including a short walk to the excellent Sygun Copper Mine, an outing to the beach in Porthmadog, an adrenaline-filled excursion to Zip World Llechwedd or history-tinged wanders around the castles of Criccieth and Caernarfon. Little bit tired after whichever outing you chose? Well, there’s plenty of space to relax back at the park, and you should hopefully sleep well in these peaceful surroundings. Wifi, a washing-up area, a launderette and bathrooms with toilets and showers are on hand to make life comfortable, and you’ll be allowed to bring a barbecue or light a campfire to finish your day in traditional camping style. Firepits can be hired from reception (subject to availability) between 9.30 am and 5pm. Logs, kindling and firelighters are also available during this time period. As a good place to unwind, Cae Du Campsite has a strict rule that music must be turned off and noise kept to a minimum after 9.30 pm.

This campsite offers a beautiful location with stunning mountain views, ideal for exploring Snowdonia and enjoying walks directly from the site. Guests praise the spacious and clean facilities, friendly and helpful staff, and convenient proximity to Beddgelert village. The site is well-maintained, peaceful, and dog-friendly. Electric grass campervan or tent pitch

Liked The Views and surrounding area

Disliked Shower was dirty and smelt like drains.

We arrived in our converted camper but was told we had to put up a tent on the pitch because they do not allow people to sleep in their car. We did not have a tent so they gave us one and told us to sleep in it.

It was very strange experience and confusing what the problem was. There was a converted van a couple of pitches down so clearly sleeping in a vehicle isn't forbidden. We don't look like a traditional camper as ours is a converted people carrier car so I can only assume it is snobbery or pretentiousness.

It was a very unpleasant experience and I only wish this was stated clearly before we booked as we would never have gone here.

You are also allocated a pitch which was close with others which is strange when there is so much space about.

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re pleased you enjoyed the views and surrounding area, but we’re sorry to hear that other aspects of your stay did not meet your expectations.

We would also like to clarify a few points from your stay. We do not provide tents to guests, and we do not require guests arriving in campervans or converted vehicles to sleep in a tent. Our policy regarding vehicle types is outlined at the time of booking, and we apply this consistently to all guests. We’re sorry if there was any confusion, but the situation described does not reflect our procedures.

Pitch allocations are made to help manage the site effectively and ensure a balanced experience for all guests, although we appreciate this may not always align with individual preferences.

We take all feedback seriously and will continue working to ensure clearer communication and a better experience for our guests.

It is our second stay at Cae Du and it will not be the last one...

Electric hardstanding and grass motorhome pitch

Liked Lovely friendly welcome when we arrived, beautiful site set in spacious grounds and with glorious views. Toilet and shower facilities very clean if a little dated in design. Good sized pitch. Given location free WiFi was great addition. Perfect spot for exploring local area. Will definitely be returning!! Hopefully in better weather!

Disliked Although there are 2 shower blocks we were closest to the one near reception and had to queue for a shower each morning because only 2 showers, but not a huge problem. I could have walked to the other block if I had been that bothered!!

Electric grass campervan or tent pitch

Liked The staff were lovely, very friendly and welcoming except one. The campsite is beautiful, quite and perfect location. Facilities clean and tidy.

Disliked The grass pitch we were given there was no grass just mud and all the cones fallen from the tree.
However there was loads of actual grass pitches still available. When asked to move to a hard standing a lovely lady said she would see what she can do as power was currently out. A pink hair lady who was rude and not friendly without even looking said they were fully booked and nothing available. She has terrible customer service skills, but everyone else was so lovely, friendly and welcoming. Love lady even came to our pitch after and offered us a move to hard standing.

From the manager: Thank you for your feedback. I’m really pleased to hear that the rest of the team made you feel welcome and were able to assist you during your stay.

I’m sorry to read that your interaction with me did not feel positive. At the time, we were managing a full site power outage and working to resolve the situation as quickly as possible, which can make pitch availability and allocation more complex than it may appear.

That said, it’s never my intention to come across as rude or dismissive, and I’m genuinely sorry if this is how the interaction felt from your perspective.

Electric grass campervan or tent pitch

Liked Absolutely loved this campsite. The location is breathtaking. The facilities were clean and even with a lot of people on the camp they were never overcrowded. Thank God for the mountain peaks to protect us from the storm. Would definitely visit again.

Disliked The only thing we didn't like was all the facilities were closed for cleaning. I understand you want to clean in peace but maybe just close the showers and leave the toilets open. Or close the toilets and leave the washing area open. And also a notice when it is closed, it wasn't fun to carry our dirty dishes just to take them back unwashed 😁

Local attractions

Families can inspire their kids with a love of nature on a stroll along the Aberglaslyn Gorge straight from the campsite. Seasoned hikers might make for the start of the Watkin Path (five minutes’ drive), one of them more challenging routes up Yr Wyddfa/Mount Snowdon, or search out strenuous scrambles up Glyder Fawr (20 minutes). If you’re looking for more unusual activities, Zip World Llechwedd (35 minutes) will appeal with its zipwires and subterranean golf course. Perhaps that’s a bit too high octane for your offspring? Head for Llyn Dinas (15 minutes’ walk) for wild swimming and paddleboarding, or laze on the beach at Porthmadog (25 minutes). Slip a slice of Eryri heritage into your holiday with a wander around the museum at Sygun Copper Mine (five minutes’ walk, there’s a playground for younger kids too), or enjoy history-tinged meanders around the castles at Criccieth (25 minutes’ drive) and Caernarfon (half an hour). And don’t forget to pay your respects at Gelert’s Grave (15 minutes’ walk), the final resting place of a faithful dog once companion to the medieval Prince Llewelyn the Great.
