  • On the edge of the Caps et Marais d'Opale Natural Regional Park
  • Pétanque court, games room, summer restaurant and bar, kids' games
A site for British sorts – and for other holidaying types seeking pleasant stays in the north of France: Camping Caravanning St Louis is a green and peaceful site in the Nord-Pas-de-Calais, in the municipality of Autingues. At a 25-minute drive from the Channel Tunnel and five minutes' drive from the A6 motorway, your holiday options are huge here – use the site as a stopover on your way south into France or north into Blighty, or stay put to explore these handsome surrounds. If you're sticking around for a bit, you may like to know taht the site is on the edge of the Caps et Marais d'Opale Natural Regional Park for hikes and bike rides around its hills, countryside and marshland; it's also an easy couple of kilometres from Ardres with its lake and waterside leisure complex. This is a mightily well-maintained site, with excellent amenities including a renovated shower and toilet block hailed as spotless by gratified former guests. The friendly and helpful team also help to make this a popular place, as do the well-mown pitches, laidback vibe and room aplenty for smaller guests to run around. Summer is the liveliest time here, with an entertainment programme running in July and August, and a bar and restaurant open in the high season for convenient foodie times – and splendid views. A pétanque court, playground, games room and wifi zone are available at all times. Camping Caravanning St Louis is just over a kilometre or about 15 minutes' walk from Autingues and its shops and petrol station. Bread can be ordered on site from May to mid-September.

What customers say

This well-kept, friendly campground is great for pre/post-ferry stopovers. Pitches are roomy & private. Toilets/showers are clean & modern. The on-site restaurant serves good, reasonably priced food. Staff are helpful & welcoming. Handy for Calais/Eurotunnel.

Power optional grass campsite

Liked A great location for exploring the Pas-de-Calais department, also great for a first stop after crossing the channel or a last stop before heading home to the UK.
The welcome was friendly and the facilities clean and modern.
The restaurant looked (and smelled) good, though we didn't try it out. Perhaps next time.
The site takes recycling and environmentally conscious camping seriously which is great. A clearly marked out recycling area with a separate bin for food waste, also separate emptying for blue and green toilet chemicals.

Disliked The chemical toilet emptying area could do with slight improvement as the emptying was down pipes and clearly some users had found this tricky!

Power optional grass campsite

Liked Really close to Le Shuttle terminal in Calais, perfect for stop over. You can leave from 6am which is great for early journeys. It has many seasonal/permanent pitches but guests were respectful and we had a good night sleep. Restaurant on site serving decent food if you don't fancy cooking (however we had much bigger expectations , not very tasty to be honest ..but ok as a quick solution after a long day of traveling).
Clean facilities and spacious pitches
Enclosed dog exercise area which is a big plus

Disliked Food served in restaurant could have been better
Dog exercise area a bit dirty which is not campsite's fault but the fault of disrespectful guests!! Dog owners..please don't make all of us look bad, when you have a dog please have the decency to clean after your companion (campsite even offers free poo bags, a bin available so well done for this camping saint Louis!!)
Toilets were quite far from our pitch (only one toilet building and our pitch was right at the back of the campsite)

Power optional grass campervan, tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Lovely small campsite close to Calais with a 100% no noise policy after 10pm. There is a lovely restaurant on site serving some delicious looking food.

Disliked Sanitary facilities are not sufficient for the amount of pitches present. Restaurant closes early at 8.30am and does not have a breakfast menu.

Power optional grass campsite

Liked Great location, so close to the tunnel. Excellent restaurant (probably the best meal we’d had in France in 4 weeks!) and sanitary facilities. Free WiFi in restaurant area.

Disliked Arrival by 6pm seems quite early if travelling from afar.

Power optional grass campervan, tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Pleasant owners

Disliked Difficulty to obtain water. Pipes in random places without any fitments made it very difficult to fill up.
Hook up adapters needed here! €20 to hire
Very outdated facilities
Worst waste pipes for chemical emptying. Literally a pipe!
Can only access WiFi from a small spot near restaurant

From the manager: Good morning,
Thank you for your review.

Half 70% of our pitches are equiped with blue electric connector. When people come not too late, in the normal opening time of the reception, they are asked if they have an adaptor, and if not we try to find a pitch equiped or propose an adaptor to lent and not to hire. Your comment on that point is not true.

The facilities are 10 years old (showers, sinks, and toilets), only the desable facilities are a little updated but clean...so i don't understand your comment.

We don't leave fitments on the taps, because there are stolen by users, do you have any solution to propose ? there are 10 taps available on site to fill the tank...At least if you arrive during the opening hours of the reception, you can be lent a fitment.

The chemical dump is a pipe, yes a plastic one and not an stainless steel. we will improve it for next year, to make it more comfortable.

Yes the wifi is free, but near the restaurant.

Local attractions

The site is on the edge of the Caps et Marais d'Opale Natural Regional Park, a popular local spot for walks and bike rides; more of the same, as well as wildlife watching in scenic surrounds, is at the Canche Bay Nature Reserve to the park's south. The medieval town of Ardres a few minutes' drive away is a must-see in this part of Pas-de-Calais – and a popular destination for holidaymakers on weekend breaks from Britain. Carve out time for the ancient and award-winning Thursday morning market, the bird sanctuary and the garden of the Maison de la Nature at the very least… and make it a mission to find the town bakery and patisserie too. From Ardres, follow the canal (starting from Calais harbour) along to Saint-Omer and the nearby World War II bunker Blockhaus of Éperlecques and its museum, or further along to Lille, an hour and 25 minutes' drive from the site.
