Liked Nicely laid out site. Staff were friendly.

We stayed for one night while touring in our campervan.

We used shower facilities while there. They have family shower rooms which were really good. They have 2 showers in cubicle with a sink and seperate toilet all in same lockable room. So was ideal for a solo parent with 2 children.

Toilet areas were also clean and decent. The men's had toilets cubicles, also shower cubicles and cubicles with basins in to wash and shave, which I thought was a good idea.

I used the elson and grey water facilities while they and also washing up area. All were clean and tidy.

We didn't use any other facilities whiles there so can't comment on food, on site shop bar areas. I did notice they do have a washing/drying machine area aswell in the shower block.

All round a lovely set up and would definitely recommend and use again. We paid £24 for a camper/motor home gravel standing without electric hookup as we have solar and batteries.

Can't fault the price at all and would definitely recommend. 5 star from us.

Liked On site shop

Disliked No pitch side WiFi (this is the 21st century after all !)
No chance of a lie in (bear in mind,I'm supposed to be resting & relaxing on holiday !) when there's a staff member buzzing around my caravan with a petrol trimmer at 9am !!!
Bear in mind this is NOT an adults only site (I recognise that human disrespect and inconsiderate behaviour can be without the owners & their staffs control at times) but this site clearly lends itself to a high percentage clientele
of the lower echelons of the touring community who always appear to have the obligatory pair of fighting dogs in tow...and as for the kids that are allowed to run riot on their bikes after dark, don't get me started !

Liked Nice site , good location.

Disliked No wifi in tourers area , nowadays that's a mistake, really disappointed that there's no WiFi, actually thought it was a joke / mistake.

Kids running around till after 10 o'clock on bikes , hollaring and generally making a racket.
Then at 7am , people preparing to leave that day , howling at each other , and generally having no consideration for others at all.

Wouldn't stay again , its obvious tourers aren't a big part or consideration there. So people can more or less do as they want. Which means they have no consideration for others.
Shame because its a nice site in great location.

FHU cement/asphalt travel trailer campsite (super)

Liked Easy access from A1 made it a good location for a stop over when heading north or south. Check-in was straight forward even though we arrived after Reception had closed. There was a well stocked shop on site.

Disliked The pirch was fine for the overnight stop over we had booked. I would not have wanted to spend any longer on it. The toilet /shower / amenaties block was very much in need of updating.

Local attractions

You won’t find yourselves thirsting for action at Thurston Manor; there are lots of inspiring places to visit in East Lothian, Berwickshire and beyond. Peer at the puffins and gawk at the gannets at the Scottish Seabird Centre - you can zoom in on the nesting colonies on the islands (including Bass Rock, home to a gobsmacking 150,000 gannets) using the Centre’s interactive live cameras, or zoom off on a boat trip to see them in the flesh/feathers, along with grey seals and dolphins if you’re lucky. For more fresh air fun, there are clifftop walks, castle ruins, picnicking and pony trekking across the grassland, woods and salt marshes at John Muir Country Park in nearby Dunbar. Or you could go for a clamber around Tantallon Castle, a majestic fourteenth century stronghold in a photogenic location atop the cliffs overlooking the Firth of Forth and Bass Rock. Not to mention the magnificent golf courses, fishing, horse riding, yachting and water sports in the surrounding area. Whisky lovers will definitely want to make a pilgrimage to the nearby Glenkinchie Distillery, which has an excellent visitor centre and guided tours as well as tastings (and a discount in the shop is included in the very reasonable entrance fee). Last but not least, the brilliant and bonny city of Edinburgh is only 25 miles away.....
