- A ferry ride from Burtonport on the County Donegal mainland
- Luxury pod with ensuite, kitchen and TV; wildlife tours available
There are very few places as untouched by modern life as Arranmore Island – and it’s just a ferry ride away from Burtonport in County Donegal. What’s more, book a stay at Arranmore Glamping and you’ll have a large slice of luxury along with your peaceful island retreat, plus spectacular views over the Wild Atlantic Way.
The double-glazed wooden pod at this family-run site is just the right size for two, and its stylish interior comes decked out with a proper double bed, cosy seating with a TV, a private dining area and kitchen corner with microwave, fridge and all utensils. There’s a handy ensuite with a spacious shower, and all bed linen and towels are included in the package.
Moving outside, you can enjoy far-reaching views from the wooden decking, dine alfresco at the picnic table (choose a clear night and be amazed by the sunset) and soak at leisure in your private hot tub.
The owners are happy to organise your sightseeing tours of the island, taking in the dramatic coastline and seal colonies.

Local attractions
When you can rouse yourselves from your comfy abode, it’s time for a potter around the sleepy lanes of the island; the scenic journey to Arranmore Lighthouse (15 minutes’ drive, formerly a World War II outpost watching for U-boats) is cedrtainly worth it for its outstanding views of the soaring Arranmore Cliffs and Atlantic Ocean.
If you’d like to explore on foot, follow the signposted hike along the headland from the lighthouse for even more spectacular Atlantic views. Alternatively, cut out all the hard work by renting e-bikes and power up the track to the remote Hill of the Eagle (10 minutes by bike) to dip a toe in two tiny lochans; carry on a little further and Donnelly’s Cabin (15 minutes) appears; it’s a snug spot for a picnic and views back to Arranmore Lighthouse.
The birdwatchers among you should look out for fulmars and shags nesting on the sheer cliffs, and wildlife lovers can also book summer boat cruises out into the Atlantic to spot grey seals basking on coastal rocks.
