  • Family-friendly park just outside Charmouth on the Jurassic Coast
  • Pools, play areas and indoor play
  • Modern amenities including hot showers and a launderette
There’s nothing fossilised about a stay at Newlands Holiday Park, a stone’s throw away from the Jurassic Coast on the Devon/Dorset border, where the staff and facilities should cater to your every holiday need. For example, this lush place has two separate play areas for the mini guests. There's also an indoor heated pool – and an outdoor one with loungers so you can bask in the sun and wonder where the kids get all that energy… More? There's an indoor soft play area. Also use family-run Newlands as a base for a Lyme Regis fossil-hunting holiday or just lounge about on site; either way, epic times are on the cards. The 23-acre landscaped park has all the facilities you’d expect from a thoroughly modern site: internet access and clean up-to-date amenities including hot showers and a launderette. Half a mile from Newlands, the World Heritage village of Charmouth has shops, restaurants and pubs… and is also known for its hardy souls taking to the sea in fancy dress on Christmas Day.

Liked: Excellent pitch with great views. Friendly greeting by staff and being showing where to pitch up by your team member and where the amenities are. The site was nicely laid out with its stepped levels. Now we've stayed, even though it was a short break we'll be booking again for a longer stay next year.

Liked: Great for families with swimming pool, soft play and arcades(some machines a bit broken) with beach a very short walk away with great bar and food onsite. Staff friendly.

Disliked: hard standing pitches were not quite wide enough for caravan and awning, in October this campsite is very boggy, out awning go very muddy due to the pitch we were given, would be fine in summer. Dog field is small. Would probably stay again in summer but not Oct.

Liked: Clean tidy site. Showers spotless, plenty of on site facilities, shop, bar, restaurant etc. lots more for families such as pool and play areas but we didn’t use them Bus stop right outside camp to reach Bridport or Lyme Regis and an easy walk to Charmouth village and bay.

Disliked: Pitch numbering confused us a little but not a problem

Powered grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: The amenities is really good they have indoor and outdoor pool, jacuzzi and sauna which helps you relax.

Disliked: Toilets were closed. Only two cubicles were provided for the campers and no shower areas which we were not told or informed prior our check-in. We were in the camp site and the staff were doing some job like trimming the grass, trees and etc which caused so much noise and loud machines/equipment whilst we were trying to get sleep like 8:00 in the morning. You can’t even relax or enjoy holiday due to noise from their tractors or equipment which I find disrespectful and rude to us who paid for these holiday.

Liked: We really liked the swimming pool & soft play! The site was clean. Staff friendly. Good location to Charmouth beach.

Liked: We couldn't complain about anything to do with the actual camp. All the facilities were clean and adequate for our needs.

Disliked: We were disappointed at the level of road noise from the A35 which travelled wherever you were on the site. We live in a city and was hoping to just hear the birds. The site promoting information should also state there is payment for the pool which is usually included in your pitch price. The proxy to the beach is also a bit unrealistic.

From the manager: Hello, Thanks for your review. We are pleased that you found our site clean but are sorry that you didn't read before booking about the pool charges and felt that the walk to the beach a little far but I guess this does depend on personal opinion. Best wishes, Newlands Holidays

Local attractions

Charmouth is the gateway to the Jurassic Coast and has some of the best fossils to be found in Dorset: the Charmouth Heritage Coast Centre has fossil collections and guided fossil walks and is where you can proudly bring in your very own fossil find to be identified. The beach is a 15-minute walk from Newlands: stroll from here to Lyme Regis keeping your head down for more fossily finds, then wander around Lyme to take a look at Cobb Harbour (made famous in Jane Austen’s Persuasion); buy freshly ground flour at the 14th-century watermill; amble along to at the ammonites, exhibitions and events at the museum, or tee off on the cliff at Lyme Regis Golf Club. Mini fossil-hunters will likely be monster fans of the award-winning Dinosaur Museum at Dorchester, and taking a detour while in town to the Teddy Bear Museum. If they’re watery types, they’ll have a whale of a time at the Splashdown Water Park in Poole and the walk-through underwater tunnel at the Bournemouth Oceanarium. Closer to Newlands and Dino Dan, families can see zebras and meerkats at the Axe Valley Wildlife Park, trundle along on the Seaton Tramway for a scenic trip through the estuary of the River Axe, or feed a shoal of fish at Lyme Regis Marine Aquarium.
