  • On 70 acres of landscaped parkland close to Exmoor
  • South Molton 10 minutes' drive; 40 minutes from sandy beaches
  • Three fishing lakes, shop and country club with bar and restaurant
If a caravan park has 'Riverside' in its name, you might reckon you might get some fishing. And you'd be right: South Molton's Riverside Caravan and Camping Park has three specimen lakes stocked with quality carp, and more exploring can be availed of at the nearby river Mole. The site sits on 70 acres of landscaped parkland with ten acres of mature woodland running alongside the river Mole: as you might also reckon, it's all mighty pretty. Riverside is a family-friendly park with a modern reception and a shop stocked with local produce from across north Devon as well as gifts, toys and everyday essentials. It has a play area as well as a country club with a bar and restaurant, serving homemade food and a selection of local lagers, ciders and ales. It's a popular venue for the variety of entertainment on site, or for settling down for a quiet time during the day to use the wifi service.

FHU cement/asphalt travel trailer campsite

Liked: Well maintained site with really good facilities. Our hard standing pitch had a picnic table, electric, water and waste. The clubhouse was lovely and our breakfast was freshly made. Had we been staying longer, we would have gone for a meal there. The washing facilities are modern with a mix of single showers and a family shower. They were immaculate and regularly checked. The site is peaceful and spotless. Husband is incredibly keen to return with his fishing rods to use the three lakes. The site is well situated and despite being just off the A361, you cannot hear anything. Would definitely recommend and we will be back.

FHU cement/asphalt travel trailer campsite

Liked: Good overall layout, everything you would want as a camping stop over.

Disliked: Pitches close to each other as motor home put with caravans and they park there cars at front of pitch restricting you from leaving and returning so easy if your motor home is 8 meters long.

FHU cement/asphalt travel trailer campsite

Liked: Clean showers and toilets with ample hot water. Friendly receptionist.

Disliked: Sadly we had very little sleep - all night long there was very loud construction work going on within a few hundred meters. No reference was made about this upon booking. I would not recommend this campsite if you wish to actually physically sleep at night. Came away feeling drained and exhausted.

FHU cement/asphalt travel trailer campsite

Liked: Friendly, helpful, staff; shop and bar have a pleasant atmosphere. Lovely, spacious, clean shower /toilet facilities. The park was fairly quiet when we visited and we enjoyed a peaceful riverside walk.

Disliked: Pitches are spacious but feel closer together as there are few dividing hedges.

Liked: The site was clean and staff were helpful. The shop was also well stocked. We loved the stream running through and the fact we could pitch up right by the park for the children to enjoy. We can’t wait to come back!

Local attractions

If you'd prefer something more active than fishing, it's a 15-minute drive to Exmoor National Park for miles of scenic walks, mountain bike trails and lots more outdoorsy antics. Canoeing at Wimbleball Lake and beginners' climbing at Valley of Rocks are among the popular picks, as are pony treks and horse riding days through countryside and along the coast. Speaking of the coast, there's much to enjoy here too: head west for the surf beaches around Croyde and Appledore, or north to Ilfracombe for more beach, the aquarium and boat trips to the island of Lundy. It'll take you 40 minutes or so to hit either stretch of coast. Kid-friendly days out nearby include heritage rides on the Lynton & Barnstaple Railway (half an hour's drive), animal encounters at Exmoor Zoo (20 minutes) and Combe Martin Wildlife & Dinosaur Park (half an hour) and easy pedals along the traffic-free Tarka Trail from Barnstaple (15 minutes).
