  • Top-notch family holiday park on the edge of Silloth
  • Close to the Galloway Hills and Lake District National Park
  • Indoor pool, restaurant-bar and busy activity/entertainment programme
Off to explore the Lake District, the Scottish Borders or Hadrian's Wall – and want to stay at a holiday park with heaps to do on site for when you’re not out and about? Nearby Solway Holiday Park should fit the bill, as it's had several million pounds on updating its leisure facilities to make this 130-acre holiday park a highly sought-after place to stay on the stunning Solway Firth coast. It’s also located within walking distance of the Victorian seaside town of Silloth, in a handy spot for all sorts of outings on both sides of the England/Scotland border. That mix means you can really tailor your holiday to your own tastes, whether you’re planning to explore the scenery of the Lake District National Park and Solway Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, hit the beach or focus your attentions on the activities available on site (or some combination of all of the above…) And those activities… well, there are lots and lots of them to fill your time with. The indoor pool, sports field and games arcade might be a place to start (all of these being free to use) while you consider which of the other activities you might like to join in with. Might it be aqua games, teddy bear hunts or pirates and princesses adventures for the younger kids, or archery, zorbing, axe throwing and bird of prey experiences for older guests? Head over to reception to find out the options and put your schedule together. It’s really worth finding some time for the entertainment too – there’s a packed programme of all sorts from kids’ shows through karaoke and bingo to live music from top-notch performers. Of course, all the practicalities are covered here too – the site has a launderette, a mini market and a restaurant/bar that’s open through the day for breakfasts, lunches, dinners and drinks.

What customers say

This park has tons of family activities, clean facilities (especially new washrooms!), and friendly staff. The pool, arcades, and food are hits. Some reviews mention muddy pitches after rain and noise. Renovations are underway, so expect improvements.

Liked As it was after summer holidays it was nice and quiet especially in camping / touring.
- Clean Facilities
- Borders restaurant great, really good breakfast
- Nice staff, entertainment team lovely!
- Can tell it’s maintained well, often see the groundskeepers mowing lawns/tidying
- Motorbike museum was mint & nearby
- Quiet little holiday place and small town, Mario’s pizza nearby was also lush

Disliked Was supposed to be no bbqs or fire pits but saw quite a few, would have been ideal but we didn’t bring ours as we were told they were not allowed
- Pool was very small, looked a lot bigger in photos which was a disappointment
- Didn’t see any security patrolling at all - even when it was quite loud after 11pm with a couple parties
- Quite a few pitches were just muddy ditches, big puddles - can’t really be helped though haha

Liked Brilliant place we loved it. All the staff were really friendly and helpful. The site was very clean and all amenities were modern and well tended to. We were camping and it was lovely and quite nice showers and toilets with free drinking water tap. Indoor swimming pool which was lovely and free passes were issued for the stay couldn’t ask for more really and will go again for longer with my grandchildren as lots of great activities for youngsters I could not fault Solway it had everything.

Liked Absolutely loved our camping weekend at solway holiday park, There was 11 of us all together and they were very accomending. Manged to pitch our tents together, sat us all down in the pub at last minute. Staff couldn't be more helpful they always spoke to the children as well. Evening entertainment was brilliant. Lots to do on the site. Indoor pool was lovely and warm. Will definitely be back for a longer stay next time so we can get more exploring done.

Liked Staff - friendly and helpful
Dog friendly
Cleanliness - Showers and toilets on Touring site modern and cleaned regularly
Activities - Axe Throwing and Body Zorbing were great fun.
Near the coast - not much of a beach but could walk a long way along the promenade & can fish off the promenade too.

Disliked Very busy so was quite noisy all day and night (School hols so to be expected).

Lazy / inconsiderate campers - blasting music during the day and leaving all sorts lying around on the grass on leaving, toys, grills etc

Local attractions

On the English side of the Firth, Solway guests can reach the north-western lakes of the Lake District National Park, day trips to Carlisle and the hills and stargazing of Northumberland National Park. On the Scottish side, you could hike the Galloway Hills, run away to Gretna or drive further afield to urban days out at Edinburgh or Glasgow. (To see it all at once, take a trip to championship Solway Golf Course where you can tee around to views of the Lakeland Fells, Galloway Hills and across to the Isle of Man.) Moseying towards Northumberland (stop off at Carlisle Castle and The Lanes shopping centre on the way), friends, Romans and countrymen can walk as much of the Hadrian’s Wall Path as they can manage: it’s the north of England’s most visited tourist attraction and most of it runs along the Solway Firth on its way to Northumberland. Happily for such a family-centred site, kiddish fun is all around Solway Holiday Park too: farm park Orton Grange, getting open-mouthed at the fish and other inhabitants at Lake District Coast Aquarium, or going on a hop around award-winning World of Beatrix Potter.
