There’s no ignoring the mighty Ardèche river when you stay at RCN La Bastide en Ardèche – as the name suggests, the river runs right past the site, making this Sampzon site a handy spot to settle in for days spent canoeing, fishing and/or hanging out at the river beach (for paddling, beach games and sunbathing sessions). The river’s not the only source of aquatic antics around here though – there’s also a fab family-friendly outdoor pool area, with kids’ pool, waterslide and sun terrace. And when you’d rather stay dry for a bit? Well then, time to head to the playground, or the multisports court, or the pétanque court, or check out what school-hol activities are running for the nippers. Or maybe it’s time to hire bikes for local exploration, or visit nearby Château de Sampzon, or go horse riding in the forest, or sign up for a canyoning excursion, or head over to gawp at the huge Pont d’Arc? Yup, it’s safe to say you’re likely to find plenty to fill your days around these parts. So it’s pleasing to know that if you’re a little tired upon your return to base, you’ll not need to faff with food if you don’t fancy it – culinary responsibilities can be delegated to the good folks at the restaurant or snack bar, leaving you just the task of deciding which drink you’d like to sip on the bar terrace.

Pratiquement que des étrangers qui viennent en séjour.( le camping doit être réputé pour ça je pense )

Liked Nous avons passé une agréable semaine dans ce camping. Nous avons eu plusieurs fois l’occasion de passer nos vacances dans différents campings mais celui-ci, sort du lot de part, sa propreté, son organisation, ses activités proposées et son personnel souriant. Nous reviendrons, c’est certain.

Liked What a fabulous location! We loved being so close to the river, and there were superb cycle paths close by that took us through the beautiful Ardeche. We loved the shady pitch with its own water supply and electric plug-in. The pool and facilities were clean and well maintained.

Disliked Ours was a nice pitch, but unfortunately it was situated directly opposite the entrance to the chemical toilet disposal, which was right in our line of sight and sometimes a bit smelly. It would be better if there was some kind of natural screen, fence or door constructed in front of it. The rest of the toilet and bathroom block was tastefully landscaped, so why not that bit? Also, food waste disposal would be a bonus.

Liked Pour le dernier jour d’ouverture du camping, il y avait beaucoup de place et tout était déjà fermé, bien-sûr. Le personnel était toutefois très sympathique et les locaux communs très propres.

Disliked Le risque d’être en zone inondable, par l’Ardèche, très proche.

Local attractions

This is a smashing area to explore by canoe – hire them on site for local paddling or head to Vallon Pont d'Arc, 15 minutes away, to navigate along through the Ardèche's gorges to the huge Pont d’Arc that sits astride the river. If you’re not up for the waterways, it’s easy to get to the stone arch and the Gorges de l’Ardèche natural reserve beyond by car, too. Horse riding, canyoning and lots of hikes and bike rides can also be had nearby, as can treetop trails, paintballing and general silliness (human table football or giant sumo, anyone?) at Adventure Camp, 10 minutes’ drive away. There are lots of lovely little villages scattered around this area, too – Balazuc, Labeaume and Vogüé are all within a half-hour drive for your pottering pleasure.
