  • Peaceful and scenic site on a Limousin permaculture farm
  • A 20-minute drive to Brive-la-Gaillarde; 50 minutes to Lascaux caves
  • Eggs, veg and jam for sale; 15 minutes' drive to the A20 and A89
You’ll be in for a fabulously peaceful rural break when you stay at Domaine Le Chazal – this small site is part of a farm in the Correze countryside, and it’s all been set up to be as natural as possible. No neighbours, no traffic or town noise, no on-site entertainment here… just the chance to breathe the fresh air and take in the lovely views from 350 metres above sea level (particularly fine at sunset, it should be said). There are lots of trees here for some welcome shade on warm days, and to give the whole place a natural green backdrop. Handy facilities like picnic tables and water fountains have been scattered around for guests to use, and there are toilets and showers in a bathroom block in a traditional old stone building. Pitches here are part of an eight-acre rural estate that’s devoted to permaculture methods; depending on the season you may be able to pick up seasonal fruit and veg, fresh eggs and homemade jams while you’re here. Other supplies for your picnics or barbecues can be found at small shops and markets in nearby villages, or supermarkets over in Brive-la-Gaillarde (20 minutes' drive). It’s worth having a stroll around Brive-la-Gaillarde while you’re there; other ways to fill your time while you're here include walks along the Canal des Moines, swimming or watersports at local lakes and visits to attractions like Château de Pompadour and Gouffre de Padirac.

Local attractions

This area has lots of places to get out for a nice walk, perhaps alongside a river or canal, or looking out for historic farms and churches. And there are plenty of spots where you can cool off with a dip in natural water as well – there’s an entry point on the Corrèze river four kilometres away, or you could try lake beaches like Plage du Coiroux (20 minutes’ drive) or Plage de Vayrac (40 minutes). Get a sense of the area’s past with a stroll around Brive-la-Gaillarde (20 minutes), taking in its Romanesque church and Labenche Museum of Art and History. There’s an indoor market here three times a week, and several others in local villages. Even if it’s not market day, villages like Collonges-la-Rouge (half an hour) and Argentat-sur-Dordogne (40 minutes) are worth a visit. Looking a little further afield, you could add day trips to Château de Pompadour (40 minutes), the Lascaux caves (50 minutes), Gouffre de Padirac (55 minutes) or Rocamadour (an hour) to your itinerary.
