Fancy exploring the French Basque coast? Maybe even popping across the border into Spain for some pintxos one day? Consider staying at Camping Lou P’tit Poun, a family-friendly site a five-minute drive from the lively market town of Saint-Martin-de-Seignanx, in the south-west corner of the Landes department. In addition to shaded extra-large pitches (and some XXLs, too), the site comes with a toilet block and showers (including facilities for disabled guests), a washing-up area and a launderette. There’s also plenty to keep the children entertained – from a well-equipped play area to a morning kids’ club where they can indulge in a spot of dough modelling or drawing and make new friends. While the adults relax on a poolside lounger with a drink from the bar, younger children can spend the day paddling around in a shallow lagoon. And if the weather’s playing up, the action can move to the indoor pool, where there are also spa areas with soothing water jets. Fancy getting a bit more active? You can hire a bike on site and explore the local area, either following the course of the Adour river on the dedicated (and largely flat) track (15 minutes by bike), or perhaps ending up at the Réserve Naturelle de Lesgau (25 minutes by bike), a watery landscape inhabited by ducks, cranes and peregrine falcons. Watersports enthusiasts will not want to miss out on the strong wave action at Plage du métro (15 minutes’ drive; you can also go by bus, which stops 50 metres from the site) and the other sandy beaches on the Bay of Biscay. Be sure to stay until late afternoon, when you will be treated to quite a spectacular sunset.

  • The outdoor swimming pool is open between 30/04 and 14/09 (subject to weather conditions).
  • Entertainment and activities are available between 01/07 and 27/08.
  • Dogs are not allowed if you are staying in the accommodation units.
  • The indoor swimming pool is open between 30/04 and 14/09.
  • The campground/park caters for families (immediate members) and couples only - bookings from all other forms of groups are not accepted.
  • Reception is unmanned after 7 p.m.. Please inform the campground while on your way there should you expect to arrive after this time so that the team can provide information about your unit/site.
  • The bar is open between 01/07 and 28/08.
  • Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the campground/park are unlit.
  • Please note that the toilet/shower facilities are unisex.
  • No charcoal barbecues allowed.

From the manager: We offer a bread and pastry service every morning.
In low season (may june and september) the snack bar is open from Wednesday to Sunday from 18.30 to 20.30. and in high season every day all day.
There is a supermarket 4km away.

Just keep at it, as you have a great customer service.

Liked Shady under the trees as we had our dog ... perfect! Great place to use like we did as a stop over on our way to our home in spain. Well kept beautiful grounds. Our favourite place and will book each time we drive to Spain.

Fully-serviced grass site (XL)

Liked Pitches were really lovely nice grass and plenty of room.

Disliked Amenities block. The toilets were so uncomfortable and the shower was not very hot.

Liked Excellent facilities with large pitches. Very helpful site team. They could not have been more helpful, in fact. We had booked for 2 nights ut our caravan brakes locked as we were pitching it. A combination of a bank holiday and weeked meant that our two night stay has become at least 5 nights, whilst we get the problem fixed. The reception team have not been fazed at all. Quiet, though it is currently far from high season when the wide range of children's facilities would be well-used. There are plenty of water points and grey water disposal is widely available. Good facilities, including an excellent indoor/outdoor pool combination and nice pizzas from the snack bar. The site has plenty of shade, so you can always get out of the sun and the bus to Bayonne (a mere 1.3 Euros each) runs from directly opposite the site entrance to Bayonne rail Station.

Disliked There is very little to dislike, actually. The only thing we found frustrating was the operation of the showers. The system is displayed in every cubicle but we found controlling the water temperature difficult. The toilets are kept very clean but, again, we were there at the end of May. They do not have seats, unfortunately.

Liked Petit camping familial où nous avons passé un très bon séjour. Emplacement tente sur herbe, spacieux et plat. Sanitaires propres. Piscine parfaite pour les enfants et adaptée à ceux en bas age, avec 2 toboggans. Des jeux pour enfants avec un petit parcours accrobranche et tyroliennes. Bon accueil et personnel réactif. Je recommande!

Local attractions

Stretching on the Adour river, the medieval town of Bayonne (20 minutes’ drive) is known for its large botanical garden, enclosed within the ancient fortifications and with a distinct Japanese flavour (think vermilion bridges and koi ponds). The Musée Basque has displays on the local culture, language and traditions. The wetlands at the Réserve Naturelle Nationale du Marais d’Orx (half an hour) attract all sorts of migratory birds, from herons to harriers. There are more winged creatures (flamingoes and colourful parrots) at Zoo Labenne (20 minutes), which is also home to wolves, porcupines and meerkats. The elegant coastal resort of Biarritz (half an hour) is well worth a visit for its beaches and a rugged promontory culminating in the Rocher de la Vierge, a rocky islet accessed by a hanging bridge. Shark, octopus and tropical fish are among the residents at the city aquarium.
