Time to dial the pace down on life for a little while? How about a bit of time hanging out on one of Dalmatia’s less touristed islands? With quiet beaches, lots of greenery and some easily accessible hiking/bike trails to explore on its 60 square kilometres of land, the island of Pašman makes a splendid place to chill out for a few days. It’s the gorgeous beaches that draw a lot of people here – and you’ll be almost next to one of them when you stay at Camp Arboretum, on the northern side of the island about five minutes’ drive from Barotul. This small-scale family site is about 150 metres from the sand, with a handful of beach bars, restaurants and a market within easy walking distance too. This is a friendly site with just the right amount of facilities to make guests comfortable – it’s got showers, toilets and wifi as well as a play area where the kids can have a bit of a run about. The central facility is a gathering place with kitchen facilities (including a fridge, gas cooker and dishes for guest use) and barbecues (best used to cook up meals of whatever you’ve sourced at the fish and veg markets three kilometres away…) Relaxing on the beach is of course a good way to spend a day or few – but so is getting out to explore the island. The folk on site have made that easy for you as there are bikes and kayaks to rent and the owner often organises sailing trips on his traditional boat.

Liked Malý kemp skoro až s rodinnou atmosférou. K dispozici záchody, sprcha, místo pro ruční praní, společné lednice, základní kuchyňské vybavení, plynové vařiče a kryté místo k sezení.

Disliked V prostoru pro společné praní byl cítit nepříjemný zápach, spíš to ale přičítám uživatelům než provozovateli. Ten naopak denně prostor uklízel. Zastřešení posezení není dokonalé, což se projevilo při vytrvalém dešti.

Liked Der Platz war schön, wir waren nah am Meer und der Vermieter war sehr höflich! Alles lief insgesamt sehr unproblematisch ab, wir hatten Auswahl zwischen verschiedenen Plätzen auf dem Zeltplatz

Disliked Leider waren die Toiletten zum Teil sehr schmutzig. Jenes lag jedoch auch an den Bewohnern selbst die teilweise ihren Schmutz einfach liegen gelassen haben.

Liked Avskild plats, lugnt och stilla. Nära havet, ca 300m promenad, fina skuggiga platser för tält, kylskåp, toalett, dusch och utekök ingår. Det går även att ladda telefon och powerbank inne på toaletten.

Disliked Att pitchup tar ganska mycket mer betalt än om man bokar campingplats direkt via telefon till Camp Arboretum. Han som sköter campingen är inte särskilt serviceinriktad men ändå trevlig. Dåligt skyltat till campingen och det finns ingen uppenbar ”check in” utan man får leta efter ägaren. Slut på toapapper och det hade behövts städas lite mer på toaletterna och i uteköket. Saknas belysning i uteköket så det är svårt att laga mat i mörkret på kvällen. Dricksvattnet är inte särskilt gott.

Liked L'emplacement proche de la mer sur une petite île reculée et peu touristique.
Les sanitaires sont corrects. Il y a un espace cuisine où l'on peut manger à l'ombre.

Disliked Camping beaucoup trop petit. Certains emplacements sont chouettes (ombragés, bien situés) mais d'autres sont vraiment moyens: collés aux sanitaires sans ombre, etc.

Liked Nice small friendly campsite with majority of pitches having good shade. Has communal kitchen area with seating. Enough toilets/showers for the size. Small beach and bar approx 10 mins walk

Disliked Cleanliness - whilst expect guests to clean up after themselves, there wasn’t adequate tools to do so. Needed site to do regular cleaning and maintenance of communal areas - empty bins, especially in kitchen area. Also no details on which bins for recycling etc..

Local attractions

How would you like to explore? If you’re heading out on foot you may like to climb up to Veliki Bokolj, the island’s highest point at 275 metres – the hike will take a couple of hours from the campsite. The Ćokovac Monastery (an hour and 20 minutes on foot) is another nice place to visit. Cyclists, meanwhile, can choose from two well-marked bike paths (number 8 being a gentler option than number 7). Or, if it’s all about the sea for you, take a tour of beaches like Lučina (five minutes’ drive) and Tratica (10 minutes). Making your way along the coastline in a kayak is also an excellent way to explore some of the coves along the shoreline. You can also cross the bridge to the neighbouring island of Ugljan or join a boat trip to the Kornati Islands (from Biograd na Moru, 45 minutes away). Head back over to the mainland and you can also make day trips to places like Zadar (an hour), Krka National Park (an hour and 15 minutes) or Paklenica National Park (an hour and a half).
