  • Friendly Eryri/Snowdonia site on the banks of the River Glaslyn
  • Yr Wyddfa/Snowdon Watkin Path five minutes’ drive away
  • Beddgelert’s cafés, pubs and railway station less than a mile away
What a gorgeous spot for a break in the fresh air of Eryri/Snowdonia National Park. With spectacular mountain views, Cae Du Campsite sits on the banks of the River Glaslyn less than a mile from pretty Beddgelert, a hub for walking trails with several pubs, cafés and craft shops. The village is also a stop on the narrow-gauge Welsh Mountain Railway running between Porthmadog and Caernarfon. What’s more, Yr Wyddfa/Mount Snowdon is just up the road, it’s five minutes’ drive to the Watkin Path trailhead and you’ll pass spectacular Llyn Dinas lake (wild swim anyone?) on the way. Tired after whichever outing you chose? There’s plenty of space to relax back at the park, and you should hopefully sleep well in these peaceful surroundings. A washing-up area, launderette and bathrooms with toilets and showers are on hand to make life comfortable, and you can bring a barbecue or light a campfire to finish your day in traditional camping style. Hire firepits (subject to availability) and buy logs, kindling and firelighters from reception between 9.30am and 5pm. And as the emphasis here is on total relaxation, Cae Du Campsite has a strict rule that music must be turned off and noise kept to a minimum after 9.30pm.

What customers say

Great mountain views & peaceful vibe. Lovely riverside walk to Beddgelert. Spacious pitches, clean but dated facilities. Friendly staff. Ideal for walkers. Poor phone signal. Midges noted. Pricey for some. Many want to return.

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked Beautiful views and really nice site. Our pitches were huge and there was also plenty of free space around the camp for the kids to play in. Toilets and showers were clean and the water was hot. What more could you ask. I also enjoyed the quiet, 9:30 quiet time suits us. Pleasant walk into Beddgelert off the road

Convenient for Beddgelert with level potches but too expensive.

Powered grass campervan or tent site

Liked The after hours procedures were well communicated and all went smoothly with a clear map of where to pitch left in a drop box.
The pitch was flat and the facilities were well maintained.
Just a short 15min walk into Beddgelert on the flat and away from the road.

Disliked It was over priced - it being similar to the Forest Holidays campsite nearby which for similar money offers a well stocked shop and opportunity to order food in.

Powered concrete and grass motorhome site

Liked Lovely location with off road walk into the village of Beddgerlert. Electric & water by each pitch. Good position for activities such as hiking, kayaking, swimming and climbing.
Positioned at the foothills of Snowden.

Disliked The facilities adequate but could do with updating.
Some form of low level lighting such as lights on electric posts as pitch black at night would be helpful.

Powered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked Great camping site, friendly staff, lot of space for tents, clean facilities, there is a communal room with lot of Information around hiking trails, castles and so on, close to local village with little shops and great food. Amazing views as campsite is surrounded with mountains, nearby few lakes, that you can swim or paddle.

Disliked Poor Wifi signal

Liked Very calm and quiet site with good facilities. We were able to move our pitch when we discovered it was too bumpy for a tent without any difficulty. We liked the outdoor covered cooking area and indoor seating for backpackers.

Liked We stayed in a tent with electric, family of 4. We all had a lovely stay. very clean facilities and a disabled shower/toilet which made the stay so much easier for my daughter who is a wheelchair user. Extremely peaceful. Amazing views in every direction.

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked Well laid out site with good-sized pitches and a great location nestled within the mountains, with brilliant walking access to Beddgelert, Llyn Dinas, the Sygun copper mine and the bottom of the Watkin path up Snowdon.

Disliked Shutting off access to the toilets / showers for an hour at 8:30am on a busy bank holiday weekend when several people, including me wanted to have a shower!

OK, they have two facilities, but quite a walk apart! I DID walk to the other, but there was obviously a queue because the other block was closed!!!!!

Local attractions

Families can inspire their kids with a love of nature on a stroll along the Aberglaslyn Gorge straight from the campsite. Seasoned hikers might make for the start of the Watkin Path (five minutes’ drive), one of them more challenging routes up Yr Wyddfa/Mount Snowdon, or search out strenuous scrambles up Glyder Fawr (20 minutes). If you’re looking for more unusual activities, Zip World Llechwedd (35 minutes) will appeal with its zipwires and subterranean golf course. Perhaps that’s a bit too high octane for your offspring? Head for Llyn Dinas (15 minutes’ walk) for wild swimming and paddleboarding, or laze on the beach at Porthmadog (25 minutes). Slip a slice of Eryri heritage into your holiday with a wander around the museum at Sygun Copper Mine (five minutes’ walk, there’s a playground for younger kids too), or enjoy history-tinged meanders around the castles at Criccieth (25 minutes’ drive) and Caernarfon (half an hour). And don’t forget to pay your respects at Gelert’s Grave (15 minutes’ walk), the final resting place of a faithful dog once companion to the medieval Prince Llewelyn the Great.
