Liked: Facilities are excellent, some of the best I've ever experienced. Really tidy showers and toilets with hairdryer. Handy bothy with a fridge, microwave, board games and kettle. Excellent location for hiking and very peaceful. Everyone was very respectful at night. Site manager was lovely too!
Disliked: Not the fault of the campsite but the midges were really bad and tent pitches are by a pond which makes it more challenging. We struggled to pitch up as were getting bitten to shreds and had to ring site manager to buy some mosquito head nets and spray around 8.30/9pm after reception had shut. I'd say take in advance if you can and be prepared to not sit outside at dusk. Pub is also shut which used to be a 5 min walk from campsite so Newton Stewart is nearest option for food/drinks.

Liked: Great site, very welcoming. Good facilities and toilets/showers very clean.

Liked: The showers and toilets were so clean, all the facilities were neat and the environment was absolutely beautiful. I loved how the staff had things for sale to fight against the midges.
Disliked: The midges were definitely annoying, but there’s not much you can do about that. It was rather difficult to talk to any staff in person as we were there for two days and there was not a single staff member in sight.

Liked: Facilities good condition (toilets clean, warm showers, laundry available) Excellent location in Galloway national park for exploring this beautiful area
Disliked: Midges. I do appreciate this is not the campsites fault but an important factor to consider. (We went end May). Hundreds of bites each. Camping is next to pond so very damp conditions and therefore midges heaven. Camping pitches were boggy and at one point ducks splashing on campsite! Ground hard. Shop open only if asked, owners available via ring doorbell, helpful once we got in but lack of personal approach.

Liked: The site is in a beautiful spot, very clean and well-equipped. We were given a warm welcome and offered helpful info about the surrounding area. We had a choice of pitch and the options were good. Chose a sheltered spot in the corner close to electric hook-up and it worked out well. We were only away from our young kids for one night, but it felt like a proper break in this tranquil and picturesque place. Lovely short walk up the woodland path to the newly reopened Hoose pub. Site had clean toilets, warm showers, washing facilities for dishes and clothes, kettle, microwave, small fridge and freezer. Drove to Newton Stewart (about 20 mins in car) where there is a Coop, ice cream shop etc. Can't comment on the strength of the WiFi as I didn't use it, but the log-in details were clearly displayed. We did fine with mobile data reception!
Disliked: Like most, we're never fans of the midge population, but nothing can be done about that really! Site shop was well stocked with spray and coils etc so we coped ok!

Liked: Very warm welcome - immaculate facilities - beautiful campsite. Well maintained
Disliked: All really really good - except the fellow campers who made a noisy and prolonged exit from the site between 05.30 and 6.15 am - such a shame the lack of consideration.
