View of tintagel from campsite

  • Frill-free site with sea views on a Cornish dairy farm
  • A mile and a half from Tintagel; Boscastle 10 minutes' drive
  • Spacious pitches with basic amenities; dogs on leads allowed
Dawdling on a dairy farm on the north coast of Cornwall is all the nicer when there are fetching sea views to take in… If you're seeking a spell of country strolling, dips at the beach and open-air chilling, Little Clifden Campsite near Tintagel should be just the job. Guests are (depending on availability) able to pick their own pitches at this low-key Cornish spot. Wherever you end up settling down, you'll be a short stroll from handy facilities like two coin-operated showers, unisex toilets, a shower block, washing-up facilities, a cold water tap and rubbish disposal points. There aren't an awful lot of rules here, but those bringing four-legged friends need to keep them on leads at all times when on site and be mindful of the livestock grazing in neighbouring fields. Away from base, it's under half a mile to St Nectan's Glen, a gorgeous woodland on the banks of the Trevillet river with walks, a 60-foot waterfall and a café for drinks and light bites (a path to this scenic spot runs adjacent to the site). You can also give your legs a gentle stretch by taking the half-hour wander down into Tintagel village, where there are lots of food options, a small supermarket, laundry facilities and an assortment of independent shops.

What customers say

Great sea views & space! Sally's a legend. Facilities are clean but basic, expect queues for loos during peak times. Perfect base for Tintagel & St Nectan's Glen, plus heaps of walks from the site. Campfires allowed, hire pits.

Liked A wonderfully simply well-maintained campsite with a lovely view. Really cost-effective and close enough to Tintagel to walk to. Really close also to brilliant walks on the South West Coast Path and Rocky Valley. Would absolutely stay there again.

Unpowered grass caravan site

Liked Good location, walking distance to a lovely cove and coastal paths. Views were perfect looking out to sea. Owner was friendly, allowed us to park late on the next day whilst we went for a walk.

Disliked However, would not recommend. No flat arrears to pitch up, more like camping in a field rather than a basic site. Toilet and shower facilities are strange, unisexed with cubicles don’t go to the floor, made me feel uncomfortable sharing with the opposite sex hence not using the showers. Needs a bit more development in this area

From the manager: I am glad the location was to your liking and obviously upset the rest was such a disappointment but all your dislikes are mentioned on the website. It clearly states unisex facilites and basic camping on a farm.

Liked Nice big open field with grate views out to sea. Toilets and showers were clean and tidy. But would recommend wearing flip flops in the shower.
Would definitely stay again as there is plenty of things to go and see.

Liked Real gem of a site! Fantastic views on a simple site. Lovely clean toilet and hot shower facilities. Showers are coin operated and give plenty of time. Had a lovely bbq overlooking the sea view. Walking distance to village and St. Nectans Glen. Perfect location. Sally was so friendly and helpful.

Local attractions

Walks? Yes indeed. This site is roughly a mile from the South West Coast Path, a 630-mile route that becomes particularly pretty in this part of Cornwall. After a few days on the trot you might want to stop off at a spa to soothe aching muscles – there's one in Bude (30 minutes' drive) if you're heading east and Trebetherick (30 minutes) if you're wending your way westwards to Land's End. If you'd rather save your poor feet, perhaps a one-mile stroll around the National Trust's Rocky Valley (five minutes' drive) will be a better fit. Tiddlers not amused by the prospect of such active jaunts? Tintagel Toy Museum and the village's historic castle (30 minutes' walk/five minutes' drive) should provide sufficient amusement if you're sticking close to base. Need more? The brill town of Boscastle (10 minutes) has opportunities for crabbing off the harbour wall, plus a museum all about witchcraft that's recommended for kids who aren't too easily spooked. Days likely to please tots and grownups alike are to be found in Trethorne (25 minutes), where there's a hands-on indoor play centre, bowling and a well-kept 18-hole golf course. The Eden Project (50 minutes), an uncontested must-see when visiting these parts, is also within reach.
