  • Quiet Kent holiday park five minutes' drive from the coast
  • A mile and a half from New Romney; Camber Sands 15 minutes' drive
  • Well-equipped shared kitchen and wifi hotspot available for all guests
For a peaceful holiday spot in south-eastern Kent, take a look at Romney Meadows Caravan and Camping Park, a mile and a half outside the small town of New Romney. Guests staying here have access to gorgeous green fields, footpaths, beaches, nature reserves and the Cinque Ports towns within a few minutes' drive or cycle. This small and well-maintained campsite has all the basic modern facilities you would expect, plus a few extras like a well-equipped shared kitchen and a wifi hotspot that all guests are welcome to use. This is a quiet and considerate spot for restful stays where kids, dogs and barbecues are all welcome. The local landscape is full of history: once buried under the English Channel, this area became an important Roman port, before becoming a smuggler's haven in the 18th century and playing a major role in the Napoleonic Wars. You can learn more at Romney Marsh Visitor Centre (10 minutes' drive), or ask the knowledgeable site staff, who will be happy to help point you in the right direction. Nearby New Romney has several supermarkets and pubs, plus a long stretch of shingle beach for scenic sunset walks.

Power optional grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked Very well run site. Clean and tidy. Great dog walks. Lovely cafe onsite. Little shop onsite wasn’t expensive as some can be.

Disliked Not really a dislike but the tents are furthest from the toilets and showers. Camper vans and caravans normally have toilets built in. Could do with swapping the site around. Having said this, it wasn’t a major problem and will return next year.

Power optional concrete and grass caravan site

Liked Site generally nice layout and good pitches.

Disliked Shower block facilities whilst generally clean enough could do with cobwebs etc removing.
Tap and shower “on time” too short and annoying.

Power optional concrete and grass caravan site

Liked Lovely, level, peaceful site with good facilities and friendly staff.

Plenty of local shops and supermarkets close by - even a small cafe on site - though we didn't use it (sorry!)

We made good use of the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway - travelling the entire line and then sections of it to go walking - great fun!

Disliked We are fairly fit and active so the footpath across the wheatfield to New Romney was no problem but this should be a consideration for less agile folk. That said, it's only a few minutes drive if that's a problem.

Power optional concrete and grass caravan site

Liked The site is beautifully laid out and clean. We didn't use the facilities as we were self-sufficient in our motorhome, however, they looked clean and adequate. Added bonus of washing machines and tumble dryers should you need them. There was a dog walk at the back of the site which was great for a short stroll. There is a cafe at the front of the site and we induldged in a breakfast one morning which was delicious and would highly recommend. New Romney is a short walk across a field but be aware, as it is a field, it is rough ground. Highly recommend the Cinque Port Arms, dog friendly and a lovely garden at the back.

Disliked Absolutely nothing to dislike.

Power optional concrete and grass caravan site

Liked Absolutely brilliant! Lovely site managed by an equally lovely couple. Excellent facilities, spotlessly clean and every possible requirement fulfilled.
Very good value, nice location and we will certainly be returning at some point in the future.
Highly recommend.

Disliked It would be nice to have a bus stop nearer to the site. There are two buses which pass regularly almost hourly but the nearest stop is a good 15 minute walk along an extremely busy road without footpaths on either side.

Local attractions

The Kent coast is full of varied things to do: there’s birdspotting at RSPB Dungeness (10 minutes’ drive) for those looking for something a bit different from classic bucket-and-spade days, while Camber Sands’ beach and dunes (15 minutes) are on hand just down the road for those in the mood for ice creams, fish and chips or a dip in the sea. To spend more time outdoors, you could head off for a round or two at Lydd Golf Club (five minutes) or take the family off for the day to Port Lympne Reserve (25 minutes), a safari park surrounded by gorgeous green countryside. To keep the kids busy, there's more to see and do a little further down the coast at the Shipwreck Museum (40 minutes), while those on grownup getaways can get away for a bit of retail therapy at Ashford's designer outlets (20 minutes). Hankering to see a bit of history? Head up to the Royal Military Canal (15 minutes) for heritage walks by the water's edge, or hot-foot it to Dover Castle's tunnels (40 minutes) or Bodiam Castle and its moat (40 minutes).
