What customers say

Great spot near the beach & town, with lovely lake views. Mostly spacious, powered sites. Friendly staff, clean but dated facilities. Can be peaceful, but some road/event noise. Some guests noted security concerns due to open access.

Liked Good points, pitches are clearly marked and allocated before arrival, they sited is next to our friends as requested at the time of booking.

Location is lovely with easy access to Brightlingsea beach and some good walks.

Disliked Site is like a car park but with the benefit of serviced pitches, which are very close together and people have to walk through your pitch as no other choice. Whilst the location is lovely, next to the creek, this by no means commands this premium price.

Toilets and showers are awful, they were clean but the water is either scorching hot or cold and it trickles out.

Rubbish point does not have decent recycling and was over full.

No motorhome service point for draining waste. Just an elsen point.

Extra charge for dogs but nothing provided, not even a dog waste bin.

People using site that are parked up in the street outside.

Liked Being in the centre of brightlingsea

Disliked Camp run down for the pitch price. Showers need updating and stools put in shower as only a hook on the back of the door. All needs a good clean and freshen up in order to charge £50 a night with no other amenities.

Powered concrete and grass site (lake view)

Liked Lovely little site. We had a lake view pitch 18. Which I loved.
Short walk to the harbour and a lovely little walk to see the sea.
The lido is literally a tiny walk. We didn’t go but looks great.
The town is also a short walk. Minimal shops but enough to get buy on.
The showers/toilets were clean and stocked ok with loo roll etc. every time I went over there was always a cubicle etc free.
We had fish chips one day which was a 7 min walk. Also nice.
A bonus I liked is that every pitch had its own water supply. Very convenient.
All in all thought this site was lovely if you don’t want hectic and club houses etc.
there is a pub up the road and of course if your drive the world is your oyster.
We went into clacton for the day was about a half hour drive.

Disliked Not much to dislike.
If I had to pick something the fence between the lake and the campsite can be dodgy. As it’s like a wire fence and spring out far in places.
Kids caught their legs on a few times.
Easily fixed we just wound it up.

Liked Great location, lake view, nice size pitch, quiet.

Disliked Toilets very below standard. Only did the minimal cleaning, Toilet rolls run out one day . No lock on door to stop public using showers and toilets. Campervans parked along road and I witnessed them coming and going from the toilets no gate security. Not at what I'd expect at £55 night .(was high season). Even through the warden was parked by the gate and could easily see what's going on . !!!!!!! For all of this I will go back as loved where it was and brightling sea has so much to offer. Just not at high season prices .

Powered concrete and grass site

Liked Warden very helpful and available
Hard standing pitches good

Disliked Limited laundry facilities (1 working machine for 50 pitches)
Poor water pressure and heat control in showers
Dated shower blocks
No security, site is also a cut through for locals
Black/ grey waste disposal is not fit for purpose. Tiny area that is hard to navigate with the disposal pipe 2ft off the ground, which makes the disposal of large gravity fed cassettes almost impossible.

Liked Did not get there

Disliked Sorry to say we had to cancel our visit due to the car tow electrics not working. We tried to contact Brightlingsea touring park and explain. No one answered the landline or the mobile number supplied. We did get through to the booking agent from the number on the arrival information and explained what had happened. I emailed the person Lyn Stibthorpe who had sent me the information and tried several times to reach her by phone and considering the mobile number was for out of hours emergency it was not answered . I left messages on both. I consider this to be really bad practice as sometimes these things happen beyond our control . No one has yet contacted me Not good customer service.

Local attractions

Created in the 1960s, Beth Chatto's Plants & Gardens (15 minutes’ drive) is based on a simple but oft-ignored principle: right plant, right place. One of the highlights here is the Gravel Garden, famously never watered and home to drought-tolerant plants and shrubs. In contrast, the Water Garden spreads around a series of ponds and is dotted with colourful flowers. Reward your offspring for following you patiently around the gardens with a trip to Hasty’s Adventure Farm (20 minutes). In addition to a giant sandpit for younger children, there are oversized Lego constructions, an adventure course and grass slides. Not forgetting resident animals like Pipsqueak the pygmy goat and Mac the alpaca… Built in the 11th century over the ruins of an ancient Roman temple, the Norman Colchester Castle (half an hour) now houses a modern museum displaying items unearthed locally, such as the Fenwick Hoard, a collection of delicate jewellery and coins, and a vase decorated with images of fighting gladiators.
