Escape to Eskdale… or Wasdale… or Ravenglass – Parkgate Farm Holidays is within easy reach of lots of the prettiest places in Cumbria's Western Lakeland. You don’t even have to exit the site to start taking in those views, for there’s a rather fine outlook from this peaceful farm over the Eskdale and Wasdale valleys, with fields and forests thrown in to the frame too. Tempted to take a closer look? Fell walkers can stride forth directly from the farm, while more intrepid types scramble up Scafell Pike, half an hour away. Should you tire of the endlessly gorgeous lakeland views, a 10-minute drive will take you to the beaches of the north-west coast for a bit of seaside scenery. Got a horse that needs a bit of a holiday too? The farm’s sheep and donkeys are friendly bunch, so you’re welcome to bring your hoofed pal along for the ride for a small extra charge. Fenced paddocks and comfy stables await on site, and there are loads of trails to trot along nearby. All the farm’s units are kitted out with fully-equipped kitchens; if you don’t fancy cooking there are a couple of country pubs within 10 minutes’ drive.

Positiv Absolutely loved our stay here. Sandy and Bruce were extremely helpful and lovely, made our stay fantastic. The views are gorgeous and such a peaceful location. Able to walk to Wast Water Lake in just over 2 hours for a lovely swim. Toilets/showers are very clean and tidy. Our pitch had wifi, which we were pleasantly surprised about - even better it was very quick! Would definitely come back for longer/again.

Excellent campsite, would 100% recommend staying here.

Positiv The campsite didn't feel crowded, the pitches were a nice size, the facilities (wash rooms etc.) were immaculately kept and the showers were hot! Sandy and Bruce were so helpful the whole stay.

Positiv Everything! The site is very clean and tidy, toilet/washing up block is modern and has everything you need! The campsite wardens are so friendly and kind, we felt very safe staying here!
Second time staying here, will definitely be back :)
Wifi is great, the views are AMAZING, such a peaceful campsite!

An excellent site, made even better by the spectacular scenery.

Positiv Lovely site, very clean and made to feel very welcome by the park wardens. The views are stunning, a beautiful location to wake up to and go to sleep to. Excellent selection of essentials, that you may have forgotten to pack and at a very reasonable price too. A lot smaller site than we are used to, but that made it more special and all of the pitches are a good distance from each other.

Negativ A bit too far from all of the major tourist destinations, but the site made up for that.

Positiv Beautiful surroundings and lovely area, great for getting out and about around the Lakes. The facilities are really clean and well maintained, with brilliant hot showers! Sandy and Bruce are friendly and welcoming and there if you need anything. We had car issues and Bruce was on hand to offer advice. We visited a couple of pubs in the area, The Bridge Inn is about a 10 minute drive and The Red Admiral around 20 mins, both serve lovely food.

Negativ Nothing (other than the typical Cumbrian weather!)

Positiv We loved the friendly welcome, the size of our pitch was amazing enough room to park our car, pitch the tent and shelter plus plenty of room for our 2 dogs to be able to play while tethered. The view was stunning 1 of the best on site. The facilities are very clean and tidy and they provide an outside dog shower too. As it is a small site it was very peaceful and everyone respected the quiet hours, except the donkeys and sheep 😉. There is a lovely woodland walk if your looking for a nice evening stroll. Alround it is a beautiful peaceful place and we will definitely book again.

Sehenswürdigkeiten in der Nähe

Legs a little worn out from walking/biking/riding? Take a scenic trip on the Ravenglass & Eskdale steam railway – there’s a station half a mile from Parkgate Farm, or you can board at Ravenglass, 10 minutes' drive away to ride the whole route. While you’re in Ravenglass, take a mooch round Muncaster Castle, a privately owned fort overlooking the River Esk. As well as tours round the castle there are also heaps of things for kids here, including an enchanted fairy trail, a maze and hawk displays. Golfing types can swing their clubs on the courses in Eskdale or Seascale (be prepared for potentially distracting sea views at the latter). There’s a sandy beach in Seascale too; if the water’s too chilly for swims, head north to Whitehaven (half an hour away) to the public swimming pool. The Rum Story, an exhibition in an original 1785 shop, is worth a visit up here too (and yes, you can buy bottles of the good stuff).
