  • Family-run site in Ardres, five minutes' walk from town centre
  • A 20-minute drive to Calais; half an hour to north-coast beaches
  • Private fishing pond on site; three minutes' walk from Lac d’Ardres
Quiet lakeside location for the peaceful vibes or handy town setting for the convenience of being able to walk to a shop? No need to choose when you’re staying at Camping Ardresien – this Nord-Pas-de-Calais site is in a particularly choice position in the town of Ardres, about five minutes’ walk from the town centre, which hosts summer night markets. In the other direction, it's just a three-minute walk from Lac d’Ardres (along a direct path), a popular spot for pedal boating, renting small boats, slurping on an ice cream or watching the annual July fireworks. This family-run site is a friendly and laidback site where pets and kids are welcome and pitches are quiet and well kept. A play area and pétanque court are on site, along with picnic tables where you can serve up your meals (cooked on a barbecue if you’d like to bring one along). The highlight for many people, though, is the private fishing pond, available for guests to use during their stay. The edge-of-town location is a very handy one that puts you just a few minutes’ walk from a good variety of shops and places to eat, along with other amenities like banks and a post office. Being about 20 minutes’ drive from Calais is another bonus on the location front too, as it puts cross-channel travellers within easy reach of the ferry port (and makes this site a good choice for a first or last night). The nearby coast isn’t all about ferries, of course – you’ll also be able to get to a nice sandy beach or a coastal nature reserve. Turning the other way, there are lots of walks and other outdoor activities in the Caps et Marais d’Opales Regional Natural Park.

Fully-serviced gravel and hardstanding pitch

Liked Great pitch size. Spotlessly clean, very well maintained. Family run campsite (3 generations all of whom were very present and very polite helpful and friendly and gave us some homegrown fruit to enjoy). Reasonably priced and a great location - you must explore!! Make sure to go through the gates and explore everything the lake has to offer (boat hire, restaurants etc).

Disliked Only 1 shower although it wasn’t a problem. Cash only site which we were aware of as read reviews.

Fully-serviced gravel and hardstanding pitch

Liked A gem of a site, we had privacy between the pitches although there were some pitches with no divides.
The owner, son and other family members were friendly, courteous and very welcoming.
When we arrived we were advised that a party/get together was planned to start in the evening and would be finished for 1am, the owner asked if we would be ok with this before putting us into the pitch, there were other pitches available on the other side if we wanted to go further away.

Neither my husband or I are fluent in French however, it didn't make the communication any problem, whenever they saw us they asked if everything was OK.

On our 2nd night the owner approached our pitch with a basket of fresh picked plums and gave us them to enjoy free of charge, which was a lovely gesture.

The site is very well maintained, they take pride in the attention to detail and the camping in tents around the edge of the wster looks lovely too.

Locally there are plenty of eating options and places to go for ice creams, drinks etc.
The local pizza takeaway around the corner stamps the inside of the pizza box lids, if you get a pizza please cut the stamp out and give it to the people who run the site, once they collect a certain amount they are able to get a free pizza.

The toilet and shower facilities were clean and no issues there at all. We did have to purchase coins to use the shower at €1 each which isn't really a big deal but we would prefer to pay a little extra without having to get special coins to operate the showers.

Disliked Nothing,

The shower blocks could benefit from more showers being available as there are queues in the morning,

There are ample sinks and I don't think that removing one of these and replacing it with a shower would cause a big issue.

Fully-serviced gravel and hardstanding pitch

Liked Clean site, friendly host, quite, pleasant other campers and and area for kids football and table tennis. Mobile homes in a separate area to the camping pitches. Pretty small fishing lake, well maintained. The site is also next to two lakes with a small array of activities and eating places - "The Burger Guy" was really good and reasonable. You can exit the site at the back and walk along by the other two lakes.

Disliked No toilet paper in the shared toilets but wasn't a problem if you remembered to take it to the toilets with you. An improvement would be soap in the toilets too.

Fully-serviced gravel and hardstanding pitch

Liked A really friendly welcome, showed us to our overnight pitch. There was water and waste (inc toilet waste) on the pitch. Electric Is extra about £3. Note also its cash only so we had to scrape together the required Euros! Nice little fishing lake on site, and a really big lake nearby with a few restaurants and eating places, including a place that has the cheapest ice cream in France..

Disliked Not really a dislike but just an awareness that entry and exit from the site is tight if you have a large van, we have a twin axle so just take it steady.

Fully-serviced gravel and hardstanding pitch

Liked The location to the Calais ferry terminal is great, but there is more than just the location. It is set in a small village with a few shops and bars within walking distance. On site there are showers and a toilet block and a fantastic fishing pond. We were greeted by a fantastic old lady who couldn't speak a word of English but we knew exactly what she meant. Turns out she is the 81 year old mother of the owner. Both were very pleasant and helpful. The price was very good.

Disliked The toilets seem to run out of toilet paper quickly. There is no shop or bar on site.

Fully-serviced gravel and hardstanding pitch

Liked Close to Calais and the ferry terminal
Quiet little site - mostly static caravans
Clean facilities
Lovely play area for the children including football goals, play house and boules area.
Friendly owner and very well maintained and clean site
Town <5min walk with mini market, bank, atm, boulangeries etc etc
Larger supermarket <10 min drive.

Disliked Only 1 shower and 1 toilet in female block
Laundry machine behind a locked door so not able to be accessed without assistance (unsure of cost)
Showers are by €1 token for 4 mins - difficult to wash hair in this time.
Washing up water wasn’t overly hot.
