With an unusual setting in a former stone quarry planted with trees and shrubs, Camping Les Gravelets is in the Manche department of coastal Normandy. It sits on peaceful grounds with a handy location five minutes’ drive from the sandy beach at Montmartin-sur-Mer, and 15 minutes’ walk from the local supermarket. Convenient on-site facilities include a mini-market selling the basics, a bar that opens in the evening and a breakfast bread service (the latter only in high season). During the high season, food trucks visit the site, adding some food options. You can keep kids of all ages busy with a play area, pétanque and the tennis court close by. The games room has board games, snooker, table football and a TV to take care of teens wanting to be independent of their parents. Chances are you might be out and about a lot of the time, however, as this region has much to offer. The long-distance GR223 hiking trail circumnavigates the spectacular Normandy coastline, and the D-Day landing beaches and associated museums are all within 90 minutes’ drive. Any sightseeing information you might need can be picked up at reception.

Liked Friendly helpful staff - free WiFi at the reception / bar area. Lovely little campsite set in a quarry. Showers hot and clean. Washing up area / washing machine all clean and tidy.

Disliked Pitch 55 is on a slope and blow up beds on the floor were on a slant. Managed to find one area that was flat ish for one bed but the rest of this particular pitch is not level. Didn’t take away from our stay .

Liked Élodie et Thomas sont hyper accueillants et près à apporter leur aide si besoin.
Le camping est calme,propre et bien situé à quelques minutes de la plage et qui n’est pas surpeuplée.
Magasins d’alimentation à proximité (-10km)
Des propositions de restaurations ont lieu plusieurs fois par semaine:rotisserie(saucisses/jambon braisé etc)
Dégustation fruits de mer
Pizza
Possibilité de commande de pain et viennoiseries directement livrés sur l’emplacement .
Les emplacements sont plats et relativement spacieux
A noter pour les propriétaires de chiens qu’ils sont acceptés sur la plage de montmartin mais pas à hauteville qui se trouve juste à côté.
Un 2e séjour s’impose l’année prochaine 😜

2 bedroom lodge

Liked Relatively small site combining chalets, Camping and Campervans/motorhomes. Everything was lovely; the site was very quiet, clean and well maintained, the owners were helpful and extremely welcoming.
The site is close to the village and beaches with a number of cafes and restaurants.
We visited the Normandy landing beaches / cemeteries which are about an hour away and the local towns are worth a visit.

Whilst there isn’t a restaurant on site the owners are happy for you to eat the food in the bar area from the visiting ‘ Moules and Frites, pizza and burger vans’ which visit the site throughout the week. Two tennis courts are available to book free of charge, there is also a table tennis and pétanque area.

Disliked Nothing. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay

Liked The beautiful setting in an old quarry.
The bar for drinks, plate of charcuterie and cheeses and mobile barbecue grill van.
Delivery of breakfast (croissant and baguette) in the morning.
General ambience of the campsite and efficient friendliness of the owners!

Concernant la mer, elle se situe à seulement 23,5 km, soit environ 25 minutes en voiture. C’est vrai que pour les amateurs de balades, prévoir des vélos peut être un vrai plus pour explorer les alentours à votre rythme. Au plaisir de vous accueillir à nouveau, et surtout, restez comme vous êtes vous aussi 😊

Local attractions

Keen hikers can access the GR223 at Montmartin-sur-Mer (five minutes’ drive) for a bracing yomp along the Normandy coastline; alternatively families can flop on the beach at lively Agon-Coutainville (10 minutes), or rent a brightly painted beach hut at Gouville-sur-Mer (15 minutes) from which to launch forays into the sea. If you’re holidaying with kids, take them to explore all the nooks and crannies of Château de Pirou (25 minutes), a medieval fortress with ramparts and spiral staircases leading up towers. They’ll probably also enjoy the submarines and aquariums at La Cité de la Mer (90 minutes) in Cherbourg. The big-hitters in the region are undoubtedly Mont Saint-Michel (an hour), where a medieval cathedral tops an island cut off from the mainland at high tide, and the D-Day landing beaches (all within 90 minutes) on the northern Normandy coastline. Omaha Beach (about an hour) has a hard-hitting museum where you can learn about US naval troops landing on June 6, 1944.
