  • Simple back-to-nature site in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park
  • A 15-minute walk from Solva; 10 minutes' drive from St Davids
  • Newgale and Whitesands Bay within 15 minutes' drive for surfers
Splendid simplicity in a stunning location is what’s on offer at Solva Valley Camping – this Pembrokeshire pop-up site is in the Middle Mill Valley, with views over the Solva river as it flows down to the pretty harbour in Solva, 15 minutes’ walk away. The coastal village makes a great place to pick up a bite to eat in its restaurants, pubs and cafés, or try your luck crabbing from the harbour wall. If you don’t pick up enough seafood to make a full meal, there are supplies in the village store too, and big supermarkets 25 minutes’ drive away in Haverfordwest. Either way, bring something to throw on your barbecue back at the site (please bring firepits or raise barbecues off the ground using the bricks provided, to save scorching the grass). This site is well placed for all sorts of outdoor activities, be they strolls around St Davids (10 minutes’ drive away), boarding wildlife-spotting boats, surfing some of Wales’ best waves or hiking on the Pembrokeshire Coast Path. There are several splendid beaches within a few miles too, or you can get to some of the county’s popular family attractions (including Folly Farm and Oakwood Theme Park) with a drive of about 40 minutes. Back on site, it’s all very laidback: the simple facilities stretch to just portable toilets and a drinking water tap (please note there are no showers), and the site isn’t usually staffed (although you’ll have contact details if you need to get hold of someone). As it’s rather remote, it gets quite dark at night, so bring along a torch to help you find your way around. No bins are provided, so you’ll need to take your rubbish away with you.

Liked: Perfect little campsite, sheltered from everything and close to a nice rural town. The campsite was as expected for an unmanned campsite and the owner really helpful, when contacted via the phone number. There is a little river that runs behind the campsite that adds some nice ambiance to a very relaxing area. Drinking water from a tap and Port-a-loo on site that’s cleaned annd replenished. About 15min walk from a pub and a little beach!

Disliked: There is no path, this was my only grip because there was no walk way to the toilet and as it rained during our time there it was wet just walking there and back, one path cutting through the site would have been perfect! Other than that! There is not much to dislike, it is a field that you can camp in. Read the description as there is no shower/toilet block.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Easy to find, very peaceful next to babbling brook. 10 minute walk walking distance to couple of pubs and restaurants and harbour. Solva is a stunning seaside harbour village and plenty to do and see as on the coast. Short drive to several towns and St David’s City.

Disliked: Nothing to dislike as long as you read the description and understand there are limited facilities but clean and sufficient for basic needs.

Liked: I love everything about this place. This is our second time staying here. After our first visit last year we just had to return! The site is in an excellent location. It is sheltered from the wind, the harbour is within walking distance, the sound of the stream is idyllic, the grass is well kept and the toilets were clean and well stocked with loo roll. The air fresheners definitely keep the smells at bay too! The tap water is fresh and clean and the fields are never overcrowded. The views of the sky at night are amazing and to hear the owls hooting really sets the scene. Falling asleep (and waking up) to the sound of the water flowing down the stream is so peaceful. We cannot wait to come back again!

Disliked: Not necessarily a dislike, more of a suggestion; a shower would be super helpful. Even a cold pop up style one would be appreciated. We'd love to be able to stay for an extra day or two but without a shower it's not ideal to stay for more than 2 nights, or part take in any adventurous activities on day 1. Unfortunately there aren't any beach showers at any nearby beaches either (that we are aware of) so it makes things a little inconvenient. It would be nice to be able to wash properly after a day in the sea or out on other adventures.

Liked: Really sweet small campsite, the stream sounds really calming at night, very close to the town where there’s plenty of independent shops and the harbour, great communication from the owner when I called, for portaloos they were very clean and the water was ice cold and fresh, would definitely stay here again

Disliked: (Not a dislike, more of disclaimer) The site consists of 2 fields, we drove through the first field that was full and almost got stuck in the mud driving to the second, before realising that there are separate entrances so could’ve saved some panic

Liked: Peace and quiet, sound of the stream. Other campers were lovely. And our dog had a great time. Easy walk to the village, and other walks in the woods.
