  • Well-kept, family-run and friendly park on the Welsh border
  • Spectacular views of the surrounding countryside
  • On a seven-acre smallholding 15 miles from Chester
Ladies, gents, solo travellers, couples, kids and the dog have quite the pick of places to roam around when staying at popular Lady Willington Camping and Caravan Park near Whitchurch, as it's on the border of Wales, Cheshire and Shropshire with several days'/weeks' worth of activities and attractions in each. There'll be a rather warm welcome on site too from Pam, Richard and the team, who take pride in making their family-run park somewhere guests want to come back to. Lady Willington Camping and Caravan Park is on a refined, peaceful and well-maintained seven-acre smallholding, which comes with first-class vistas of the surrounding Shropshire countryside and excellently-kept amenities. The pitches are decently sized and all have their own water supply and electric. Amenities include toilets, showers and a washing-up area (these all updated for the 2021 season), plus a fridge and freezer, a kettle, a hairdryer, and a washing machine and dryer (small extra charge applies). Barbecues are allowed on site: for supplies, the market town of Whitchurch is about six miles to the east, while Wrexham is about 10 minutes' drive west.

Electric grass tent pitch (no awning)

Liked Richard and Pam were great hosts, great area for visiting local city's and towns.
Really quiet area in the country.
Well organised site, showers, toilets ect cleaned regularly and kept spotless.

Disliked Sometimes had to queue up for one of the 2 toilets but the site was at max capacity.

Electric grass tent pitch (no awning)

Liked Lovely well set up site. Good facilities and lovely owners. 3 well presented Toilets/showers always loo roll!

Disliked No play area for children or open space (so no football/games when site busy) camping area next to horses great but can hear horses pottering around in the night (metal horse shoes on concrete) so did disturb our friends situated here. Also smell of horse urine quite strong at times.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi Claire, many thanks for your kind review and yes, we always ensure there is plenty of loo roll! During a busy Bank holiday weekend, we don't have space for a children play area, but non peak times are totally different and we often have space. Many of our guests love the close proximity of the Horses, but when you come again we can provide a pitch away from them. Look forward to seeing you again - best regards Pamela and Richard

Electric grass tent pitch (no awning)

Liked Cleanliness of the site, modern washrooms and a lovely family run feel about the place. The owners work extremely hard to keep the place looking pristine

Disliked I didn’t like that the field we were on doubled up as a car park for the whole site. I can’t moan too much because we were allocated the biggest pitch on site, and the view of cars was rectified by me putting up a 2nd windbreak

From the manager: Hi Paul - we really do appreciate your comment 'I have never seen owners of a campsite work as hard as I saw here', however we love welcoming guests to stay on our small site. Look forward to seeing you and your family again. Kind regards Richard and Pamela

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked Spotlessly clean facilities
Friendly helpful hosts
Perfectly peaceful site
I would 100% return!

Disliked The only niggle, and I mean it was a tiny little niggle, was that I was hoping to sit in the dark looking at the stars, however the lights from the electric point were quite bright ...great for my neices 3am toilet trip though, so I can't have it both ways!!

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi Jennifer, thank you for the review. It is a fair point about the lighting which comes on automatically 'dust to dawn'. Hope you see you again. Regards Richard and Pamela

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked We liked that it was nice and quite very peaceful, there wasn't any loud noises past a certain time. The owners were very friendly, (we spoke to Pam a lot she was lovely and very welcoming) Would definitely recommend if you're looking for somewhere to relax. Will be back in the future. The toilets were clean and there is a place to do laundry at a charge of £3. The scenery is beautiful, they have horses roaming around and dogs/cats. Very friendly with animals!! It is in the middle of no where but if you have a car it's okay but it's nice for little strolls around, if that's how you like it then that's ok for you. You can also get food delivery's to the camp, (the curry's are good!) overall, highly recommend!!

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi Callum, many thanks for choosing to stay at Lady Willington's campsite and thank you the welcome feedback about the 'friendly' owners - Pamela and Richard - we look forward to seeing you again.

Local attractions

This be Roman country: nearby Whitchurch was founded by the rampaging lot around the time of Caesar (the first), on a main Roman road between Chester and Wroxeter. Chester, one of the main Roman towns, is about 40 minutes' drive from Lady Willington Camping and Caravan Park and has a Roman amphitheatre to see as well as Roman remains and a museum at Dewa Roman Experience. Fans of other history periods also come to Chester to see its medieval and black and white buildings and its Grade I listed city walls, among the best preserved city walls in Britain, and the 11th-century Chester Cathedral. Back near base, stop off at the well-kept Whitchurch Heritage Centre to see some more Roman remains alongside exhibits and galleries taking the town up to modern times. Around the streets, make time too for the Clock Trail or one of the other several town trails: most fortuitously, most pass a pub… Also anciently, several castles, historic houses and National Trust properties are within conquerable driving distance – Chirk Castle, Erddig Hall in Wrexham, Combermere Abbey, Cholmondeley Castle and Bolesworth Castle just to start you off. All have regular events, including an international show jumping event at Bolesworth, and a Pageant of Power, Pony Club Championships and garden openings at Cholmondeley. Here to hike? Five long-distance walking trails start from Whitchurch's Jubilee Park, including the Shropshire Way which runs along to the Llangollen Canal, crossing the border between England and Wales. The Sandstone Trail, 34 miles through Cheshire and Shropshire, starts and finishes in the town. Other sights and sites nearby are Shrewsbury and the follies at Hawkstone Park about 20 miles away, and the early nineteenth century Pontcysyllte Aqueduct carrying the Llangollen Canal over the River Dee, a World Heritage Site with the wondrous Horseshoe Falls. Snowdon, the highest mountain in Wales, is about an hour and a quarter's drive away.
