  • Peaceful dog-friendly site with views of Eryri (Snowdonia)
  • On the banks of the river Gwyrfai; a 10 minute-drive from Caernarfon
  • Walking routes directly from the site; playground and games room
Adventurous types, unite, and make your way to Bryn Gloch Caravan and Camping Park. This is the type of place where holidaymakers can hike all day long, and it's peaceful too, on the banks of the river Gwyrfai with views of the Eryri (Snowdonia) mountains and the north Wales countryside. There are walking routes directly from the site – good news for those with dogs or a lust for adventure. One of the UK’s longest heritage railways, the Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railways, passes through the site on its 25-mile journey past the foot of Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon). You might want to board it yourself Caernarfon (10 minutes’ drive) and see if you can spot your patch of land as you pass by. That’s after you’ve experienced one of the boat trips that run along the Menai Strait from the quayside below Caernarfon Castle, of course. There’s a very generous serving of facilities at Bryn Gloch Caravan and Camping Park, from heated bathrooms and wifi to playgrounds and a games room. The pitches are spacious, giving you plenty of opportunities to soak in the scenery.

What customers say

This spacious, well-maintained campsite offers stunning mountain views and excellent facilities, including clean shower blocks and play areas. Located conveniently for Snowdonia adventures, visitors praise the friendly, helpful staff and the beautiful riverside setting. Pitches are generally generous. While most found the site peaceful, some noted it can be busy, especially during peak times, with occasional noise from other guests or nearby dog kennels.

Fully-serviced grass pitch

Liked Site was lovely and well presented. Fully serviced grass pitch was well laid out with electric, water and drainage very close, relatively level. Toilets and showers cleaned regularly. Good phone and 4G signal all over the park. WiFi was one of the best we've used on a site.

Disliked Not enough toilets and showers on the field for the amount of people staying (school holidays), although all had the option to use blocks on other fields, these were also busy at peak times.

Electric grass pitch

Liked The pitches are flat and the site is excellent for the kids biking safely. We camped one hedgerow away from the shallow river which the kids loved. The views are stunning and Elephant Mountain was a constant topic of conversation. We also loved hearing the steam train pass by the site twice a day.
This is a remote site and peaceful. There are small local shops for groceries about 10 minutes drive away and we visited Caernarfon several times to visit the castle, Whistling Dragon Steam train, soft play and a lovely Chinese restaurant. We also visited Gypsy Wood which was great fun for a few hours with younger children.
On the way home we visited Zip World and the Pen Y Pass Road was absolutely stunning with natural waterfalls, sheep, and incredible views. Highly recommend venturing out and driving it, with the little village of Betws-y-Coed a beautiful destination for a walk, coffee and lunch.
We really enjoyed our stay at Bryn Gloch. It ticked the boxes for our Welsh countryside camping trip.

Disliked There was sometimes a queue for the shepherd hut toilets and showers. Each toilet is separate with a front door so offered good privacy but don’t expect lots of toilets in cubicles with communal wash basins for cleaning hands and brushing teeth. Queues build up when it’s bed time and throughout the morning so bringing a brolly for wet weather is defo recommended.

There is wifi but it was so intermittent, I couldn’t use it on my phone. My husband couldn’t either but he had a couple of bars of mobile signal whereas I had none. This probably depends on which pitch number you are.

We were disappointed that when we went to order wood fired pizzas on Wednesday evening, even though it was 45 mins before they closed, we were told they had sold out. We were banking on that being our kids dinner so had to get in the car and drive for a chippy tea which isn’t local. The shop closes at 5pm on site. I think the pizza trailer will be separate business than Bryn Gloch so not their fault but would be useful to have more info perhaps.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Showers with no push button and hairdryers
Views
Staff helpful, and regular drive arounds to check noise levels etc
Stream for the kids in hot weather was beautiful

Disliked Shepherds hut toilets (spec field 6) always quite grotty and looked like they needed a good scrub. The setup with dish washing facilities outside the doors or showers was not great. When 3 showers in use only 2 toilets available. Can not see from the outside if in use, meaning having to try all handles if doors closed - not ideal
Have stayed on this site previously but facilities in another local sister site were cleaner

Fully-serviced grass pitch

Liked Views and location was amazing. Small river and games room for the kids

Disliked Not enough showers on field 6 with half hour wait.
Pizza van that turned up took hours to get a pizza then another half hour wait when given a collection time. The lady was on her own and had really bad customer service and attitude

Electric grass pitch

Liked Great campsite especially as we had brilliant weather and the river to cool off in
Special thanks to the amazing staff who helped me out with pitching the tent
Showers and toilets cleaned regular and not too busy even with a fairly full site

Disliked Wi-Fi was a bit poor in field 6 where we stayed
The on site freezer was too small in the reception area
Would be a great option to have a bigger one and maybe a couple more in the big amenity blocks

Adventurous types can tackle the fastest zipwire in the world at Zip World Penrhyn Quarry (half an hour). With underground trampolines based in slate caverns, you’re likely to work up a sweat. GreenWood Family Park (20 minutes) has traditional rides, including family-friendly rollercoasters. Where next? Portmeirion (35 minutes), an Italianate village featured on the telly? Or Llanberis (20 minutes), where the mountain railway departs? Llanberis is close to the National Slate Museum (20 minutes), which has the largest working water wheel in Britain.
