  • Family-owned Snowdonia site near the shore of Bala Lake
  • A short walk to watersports, boat hire and Bala Lake Railway
  • Within walking distance of Bala’s shops, restaurants and golf course
Got Snowdonia National Park in your sights? You can add a little sailing or windsurfing – and relaxation on a family-run site – into the mix when staying at Pen Y Bont Touring and Camping Park. This peaceful place is just a few hundred metres from the shore of Bala Lake (also known by its Welsh name Llyn Tegid). The fresh air of the Snowdonia National Park is sure to aid that well-awaited relaxation… and when you’re feeling fully rejuvenated (and full of tasty food from the shops and restaurants in Bala town centre, 15 minutes’ walk away), there are activities like sailing, windsurfing and boat hire around the lake. Switch up Bala Lake’s gentle ripples for the whitewater of the Tryweryn at the National White Water Centre, 10 minutes’ drive away. Adventurous souls can zoom down the 1080-metre zipwire at Zip World Llechwedd (40 minutes’ drive), climb Snowdonia’s mountains or catch a few swells at the surf lagoon at Adventure Parc Snowdonia (50 minutes). If you’d rather move at a more leisurely pace, putting a few holes as you go, there’s a golf course on the other side of Bala, half an hour’s walk away from the site. Spa days and massage treatments are available about 10 minutes' walk away too.

Liked Beautiful well maintained site. Within minutes of finishing my shower the cleaning lady had been in and squeegeed the floor dry. The shower block incorporating the showers and toilets was immaculate.
The ladies in reception were pleasant and helpful.
Location so near to Bala Lake and the steam train. Bala town itself a pleasant 15 to 20 minute stroll. Lovely little town with cafes, coffee shops, pubs and a number of independent shops.
A lovely relaxing place. We will be back.

Disliked The only negative was the noise from the traffic on the main road.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Diolch yn fawr, thank you very much Susan! We are absolutely thrilled that you enjoyed your time here and look forward to welcoming you back very soon!

Liked For our first time with a caravan we couldn’t have picked a better camp site and our future sites with be compared to this. The location was lovely with trees surrounding, a running stream and a view of Bala lake. The camp site was nicely laid out with plenty of space around the pitch.
The shower/toilet building was modern and clean. The staff were very helpful especially Janice who was a lovely helpful chatty lady. It’s a short walk to the lake and town. Couldn’t ask for a better place for our first camping experience.

Disliked Nothing to dislike

From the manager: AMAZING thank you,, really glad you enjoyed your fist trip out to us with our caravan! We are so happy that you enjoyed your stay with us and hopefully we will see you again in the future.

Local attractions

For those days where you can’t be bothered to walk too far, it’s very handy that the station for the narrow-gauge Bala Lake Railway is just five minutes’ walk away. Views of the water are a given, but count the mountains too: Arenig Fawr, Aran Fawddwy and Aran Benllyn are visible on the route. You may have your sights set on climbing Wales’ tallest mountain, perhaps. If you’re not climbing up Snowdon (an hour's drive) yourself, you might want to take the Snowdon Mountain Railway (an hour and five minutes), which has been making its ascent for over 100 years. A less strenuous trail than the Snowdon climb is the Mawddach Trail, which runs for just under 10 miles from Dolgellau (half an hour), crossing over the gorgeous Barmouth railway bridge on the other end. Coed y Brenin Forest Park (35 minutes) has plenty of trails too, through thick forest this time. You can take them on by mountain bike, standard bicycle or on foot – and there’s bike hire at the forest park.
