  • Family-owned Snowdonia site near the shore of Bala Lake
  • A short walk to watersports, boat hire and Bala Lake Railway
  • Within walking distance of Bala’s shops, restaurants and golf course
Got Snowdonia National Park in your sights? You can add a little sailing or windsurfing – and relaxation on a family-run site – into the mix when staying at Pen Y Bont Touring and Camping Park. This peaceful place is just a few hundred metres from the shore of Bala Lake (also known by its Welsh name Llyn Tegid). The fresh air of the Snowdonia National Park is sure to aid that well-awaited relaxation… and when you’re feeling fully rejuvenated (and full of tasty food from the shops and restaurants in Bala town centre, 15 minutes’ walk away), there are activities like sailing, windsurfing and boat hire around the lake. Switch up Bala Lake’s gentle ripples for the whitewater of the Tryweryn at the National White Water Centre, 10 minutes’ drive away. Adventurous souls can zoom down the 1080-metre zipwire at Zip World Llechwedd (40 minutes’ drive), climb Snowdonia’s mountains or catch a few swells at the surf lagoon at Adventure Parc Snowdonia (50 minutes). If you’d rather move at a more leisurely pace, putting a few holes as you go, there’s a golf course on the other side of Bala, half an hour’s walk away from the site. Spa days and massage treatments are available about 10 minutes' walk away too.

Liked: Beautiful well maintained site. Within minutes of finishing my shower the cleaning lady had been in and squeegeed the floor dry. The shower block incorporating the showers and toilets was immaculate.
The ladies in reception were pleasant and helpful.
Location so near to Bala Lake and the steam train. Bala town itself a pleasant 15 to 20 minute stroll. Lovely little town with cafes, coffee shops, pubs and a number of independent shops.
A lovely relaxing place. We will be back.

Disliked: The only negative was the noise from the traffic on the main road.

Liked: Lovely clean site with nicely laid out pitches.

Disliked: Unfortunately as lovely and modern as the facilities were, I had a cold shower! Which wasn't nice! Another lady had the same experience and was told there wasn't anything that could be done at the time. Not what I expected from a 5* site.

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review, very much appreciated. Unfortunatley at the time of the incident, the warden was taking the dog for a walk. When she came back on site the boiler was checked and it was fine and when she went in to the shower cubicle, all 3 showers were working fine with hot water, so this was a one off incident. The site plumber has been advised of the one off incident and is currently looking into the mater.

Liked: Location to town

Disliked: Price noise from road & grass cutting every other day also toilets not kept clean at peak times .

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Sorry to hear you did not enjoy your time at Pen Y Bont, however you were aware of the price when you booked in April so we're always baffled on the few occasions where we are marked down for this. If you weren't happy with the price, we do question why you booked in the first place...
The grass is not cut every other day but once a week over 2 days at this time of year - we are a 5-star park and in order to keep the site looking at the standard we and our guests expect, this is a necessity.
We clean the amenity block at least 3 times a day while we are on shift and have just hired an extra cleaner for weekends to ensure the standard is kept at the highest level.
Sorry to hear you won't be recommending us or visiting again but we hope you enjoy your future caravanning trips.

Clean and tidy level grounds

WiFi not great

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review - we're really glad you enjoyed your stay with us and found the site clean, organised and friendly 😊
We do only have a small on-site shop and try to stock all the essentials but as we always say "we are not Co-Op or Spar" - there are two well-stocked shops in town for anything you are unable to find here.
Work is actually happening on site as we speak to improve the Wi-Fi so hopefully that issue will be resolved very quickly!

Local attractions

For those days where you can’t be bothered to walk too far, it’s very handy that the station for the narrow-gauge Bala Lake Railway is just five minutes’ walk away. Views of the water are a given, but count the mountains too: Arenig Fawr, Aran Fawddwy and Aran Benllyn are visible on the route. You may have your sights set on climbing Wales’ tallest mountain, perhaps. If you’re not climbing up Snowdon (an hour's drive) yourself, you might want to take the Snowdon Mountain Railway (an hour and five minutes), which has been making its ascent for over 100 years. A less strenuous trail than the Snowdon climb is the Mawddach Trail, which runs for just under 10 miles from Dolgellau (half an hour), crossing over the gorgeous Barmouth railway bridge on the other end. Coed y Brenin Forest Park (35 minutes) has plenty of trails too, through thick forest this time. You can take them on by mountain bike, standard bicycle or on foot – and there’s bike hire at the forest park.
