Pitches and view of the castle and restaurant

  • Spectacularly scenic lakeside park, set around a 16th-century castle
  • A 10-minute drive from Newton Stewart and the Galloway Forest Park
  • Pools, inn, crazy golf, games room, playground and donkey corner
Care for a hol among spectacular Scottish scenery… on a fably kitted out park with access to its own loch for fishing – and with its own swish inn and restaurant to keep you fully fuelled? Come and call upon family-run Castle Cary Holiday Park in Dumfries and Galloway. Set a handy seven miles from Newton Stewart, Castle Cary is in splendid surrounds with royally fine views over the local woodland, fields and the estuary of the River Cree. It's centred around a 16th-century baronial castle, part of which has been restored as the Laird's Inn, a warm and cosy space of wooden beams, stone walls and open fires (it's best to book a table in advance here as it's rather popular). The inn's the place to retreat to after a day getting active around the site and in the local countryside: you can fish here or in river, sea or loch nearby; there's sailing, boating, horse riding and wild swimming all nearby, and Galloway Forest Park is 10 minutes' drive north. Castle Cary has excellent amenities to go with its smartly kept pitches, including a chalet building with showers, toilets, a disabled-access toilet, a baby changing room, a laundry room and sinks; guests also have access to a dishwashing area. The site also has a family-run café that serves breakfasts, meals, snacks, coffee and sweet treats. Facilities are rather fine too, with two big heated pools (one indoor and one outdoor; charges apply for both), a heated paddling pool, a playground, crazy golf, a games room with pool tables and video games, and – pretty much guaranteed to make the kids go gaga – a donkey corner to greet the site's four-legged residents.

Fully-serviced hardstanding and grass pitch

Liked It a lovely site, well set up generously sized pitches .
We didn’t use any of the family facilities as we didn’t have children with us, but they appeared to well maintained and were being enjoyed by the children there.
The Lairds Inn was excellent, the food was beautifully cooked and the service was impeccable. I would highly recommend it, but definitely book in advance.
Great dog walking facilities all in all an excellent site for families & adults alike.

Disliked The en-suite toilet facilities although a good idea, there needs to be a way for them to be cleaned after use as they are left in a very messy state.
But more importantly the doors need to have proper locks, as these are unisex facilities the locks were either rather flimsy or just didn’t work at all. This could at best cause a rather embarrassing incident or at worst leave young girls ,boys and woman vulnerable to attack.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Pitch area

Disliked Facilities could have been cleaner and quite dated now. unfortunately loud karaoke blasting out of the lairds inn pub til 11pm at night really spoiled it for us, could hear it even down at the bay view field. Not great for families.

Electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Loved the staff, the swimming pools, the super cosy toilet and shower block. Plenty for kids to do on site between the park, the football goal, crazy golf, games room etc. The cafe was great and very reasonable.

Disliked A small minority of guests who left dog poo and rubbish. Not the staff’s fault who were trying to clean up behind people but should never have had to! The noise from the road. It’s not a particularly peaceful site

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Staff were lovely. Site was big and enjoyed my week away with a sense of security.

Disliked The rules are not allowed to play music after 11. Got a noise complaint at 10 past 10 one night. And accused of smoking cannabis. Wasn’t aware of WiFi on site

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked We have stayed before but took the grandchildren this time. They loved it we went swimming lin the heated pool also an outdoor one. played crazy golf which is free, spent time in the arcade and had a lovely lunch in the on site cafe. Kids took their bikes and played out most of the time,in the evening we had booked a table at Lairds restaurant which is onsite and the meal and service was great. The staff at castle Cary are great. Then we went back to the motorhome sat outside at our very large bay and listened to the entertainment of a singer and kids played out on their bikes. The site is clean, toilets clean, dish washing facilities clean, reasonably priced for everything and some lovely walks one into creetown a nice wee Scottish village.

Disliked The only thing I disliked was some dog owners didn’t pick up behind their dog opposite to us. There are woods to let them poo in.
