When you’re looking for somewhere spectacular to hold a party, a get together with friends or just a weekend break with extended family, they don’t come much more special than pop-up Loxton Hill Wild Camping. At 25 minutes’ drive from Weston-super-Mare in North Somerset, this peaceful site has plenty of space and no formal pitches, so you can all set up together – but be quick about choosing your spot, because there’ll be some competition for the best views over the Somerset Levels all the way to the Bristol Channel. The westernmost ridge of the Mendip Hills National Landscape, Loxton Hill is just the remote place for providing complete privacy along with those stunning views – little beats sunset over the sea on a clear evening. Bring firepits and barbecues, canopies and tents and spread out over the hilltop – you’ll have it all to yourselves after all. Just be aware that this is ‘proper’ wild camping, so you’ll need to bring in everything you need, from drinking water to lights and compost loos. There are two villages (Christon and Loxton) with shops within about half an hour on foot, and excellent pubs at Godney and Pilton (both around 40 minutes’ drive). If you need a bit of a scrub up a few days of outdoor life, there’s also a spa at the local hotel (10 minutes).
