  • Relaxed, simple pitches on a 450-acre Dorset family dairy farm
  • A 15-minute drive to Weymouth and half an hour to Monkey World
  • A mile from the Jurassic Coast, with footpaths to Abbotsbury and Fleet
With a location just outside the Dorset National Landscape and only a mile from the Jurassic Coast, it's easy to see why one might want to settle here for quite some time… and that’s just what the family that runs Tatton Farm Campsite have done. The fourth generation runs this working dairy farm, and the fifth generation is rapidly falling in love with farm life too. Plenty of guests have found themselves rather fond of the place, too – there’s been a campsite successfully running here for more than 40 years. And what is it that’s kept the site so popular throughout that time? Well, perhaps the laidback atmosphere, the generous pitches and the fact that they’re surrounded by 450 acres of farmland… It’s all quite simple here – pitches are all on grass without electric, and there is a sustainable toilet and shower block that saves a whopping 2.5 tonnes of CO2 every year. You may also be pleased to hear that the field is flat and accessible for those with mobility issues, and the toilets and showers are fully wheelchair accessible. There is also an ileostomy station designed by a family member who has a colostomy bag. With few distractions, guests can properly relax – waking up to birdsong and spotting the dairy herd passing by each morning and evening are the norm here. The pitches back onto woodland, so there’s wildlife to look out for too, and you may catch a glimpse of the wild deer that live here. Of course, the farm’s location helps with making it an attractive place to stay – it’s about a 15-minute drive to Weymouth’s town centre and beach, and there are rural footpaths running from the farm to the likes of Abbotsbury, Fleet, Chesil Beach and the Hardy Monument (or to Weymouth, in fact).

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked Upon arrival we were greeted by the owner, she was extremely welcoming and very likeable.

The checking in process was perfect and we were shown to our pitch.

No issue was too small, we had a problem connecting to the electric hook up, and that was sorted in no time (the issue was with us, not the site)

The site was very clean and tidy and all guests were quiet and respectful.

The toilet block was brand new and was cleaned regularly so it was immaculate every time you went there.

Couldn’t fault this little site, absolutely perfect!

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Nicky, one of the owners is an absolute delight.
The pitches are all generous sized grass pitches.
There was a a lovely, shiny new shower & toilet block that Nicky keeps spotless.
There is good wifi, however in the particular pitch we had been allocated ( number 2 ) there seemed to be a bit of a ‘dead spot’. But moving just 20 feet to one side seemed to improve the signal a little. Other campers seemed happy with their WiFi signal.
If you have children, when we stayed ( during the school holidays ) there were lots of kids for your children to play & make friends with.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Lovely new shower block which was kept very clean throughout our stay. The owner Vicky was lovely, greeted us when we arrived and provided recommendations of what to do in the local area. Great fields that back onto the campsite that were free to roam and walk the dog in

Disliked Some dogs off lead when rules are that dogs must be on lead which caused a bit of a nuisance to our nervous dog but that was nothing to do with the campsite, more just specific individuals staying there at the time!

Local attractions

It’s really worth bringing your walking shoes along for a stay here, as you can set off on foot for lots of local attractions, take in some of the Jurassic Coast’s top scenery on a hike along the South West Coast Path, or do a circuit of the nearby Isle of Portland. If you’d rather head straight to the beach, get down to Weymouth’s family-friendly stretch to see if you can build sandcastles that will rival the displays at Sandworld sand sculpture park. Also in town are the Sea Life Centre, Pirate Adventure Mini Golf and a harbour for fishing or wildlife-spotting boat trips. For leisurely days out nearby, try a visit to Bennetts Water Gardens (10 minutes’ drive), Abbotsbury Swannery (15 minutes), RSPB Lodmoor (15 minutes) or Hardys Cottage (25 minutes) or set off to explore the ghost village of Tyneham (45 minutes). If you’re after something livelier for the kids, the likes of Monkey World (half an hour) and Dorset Adventure Park (40 minutes) are likely to hit the spot.
