  • Scenic adults-only dog-friendly site in Dartmoor National Park
  • Haven for hikers and bikers, 20 minutes from Exeter city centre
  • On-site shop, information centre and secure off-lead dog area
Escape from messy desks, busy inboxes and fume-filled commutes with a peaceful fresh-air stay among grownups only at Barley Meadow Touring Park, a dog-friendly site under five minutes’ drive from the Devon village of Crockernwell. As it's in Dartmoor National Park, this is a top spot for hikers and bikers with a yen for exploring far-off places: the 117-mile Two Moors Way (which stretches from Ivybridge to Lynmouth) passes 10 minutes’ walk from the site, and National Cycle Route 27 and the Granite Way walking trail can be joined 15 minutes’ drive away in Okehampton. Closer to home, you can stroll next door to the farm shop to select goodies for your dinner. There’s plenty more to investigate around splendid Dartmoor, but of course… but not before kicking back for a bit on site… Stock up on snacks in the on-site shop (open subject to demand) while letting canine chums run off-leash in the dog area, or plan outings and pick up ideas for local walks, activities and visits in the little information centre. All sound a bit too rural? Never fear, as the site’s central and easy to reach: it’s just off the A30, and there’s a bus stop right outside the site entrance for trips to Exeter and Bude. Eco-friendly drivers can charge their electric vehicles using the EV point on site too.

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked Immaculate site, consistently well maintained. good facilities including wifi. very welcoming staff. small “games room” a pleasant surprise. walking area for dogs, large level pitches. no children. amazing views of stars at night. quiet camp. you can park where you camp. easy number plate recognition barriers.

Disliked onsite shop somewhat misleading. more helpful items such as disposable bbq, basic cutlery sets would have been helpful. checking after 6pm not ideal means we missed a day of our break. “no groups” rule which was confusing- we made three separate bookings due to number of tents. we were a group of 5 (two couples and a friend) yet, can have up to six people on one pitch!- slight discrimination based on our age.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you so much for your lovely review. We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us. However to cover your dislikes. We are only a very small shop, not a super market. We do not sell disposable BBQ's because we do not allow them. The latest check-in is very clear when booking and as there are only two of us who work 7 days a week, we have to have a cut off. We were accommodating and said that as you could not arrive by 6pm that you could arrive from 9am the next day. With regards to how many people per pitch it is actually a maximum of 4 people per pitch. We do not allow group bookings and were very accommodating to the fact that you all booked separately and did not mention that you were with friends. It most certainly nothing to do with your age! I politely spoke to you all and said that we do not allow group bookings and hoped that you would all be quiet. We rate ourselves on being a very quiet site. However I'm pleased to see that after all this you would return. Best wishes from Leigh and David

Electric optional hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked Barley Meadow Touring Park is a true gem for anyone who enjoys camping in a peaceful, beautifully maintained setting. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with a warm welcome that set the tone for a wonderfully relaxing stay.

The pitches are spacious, level, and thoughtfully laid out, giving you plenty of privacy while still feeling part of the friendly atmosphere. The facilities are spotless and modern—showers, toilets, and washing areas are maintained to the highest standard, and it’s clear the owners take real pride in keeping everything immaculate.

What really makes Barley Meadow stand out is the location. Nestled in stunning Devon countryside, it’s perfectly situated for exploring Dartmoor, nearby villages, and the coast. The site itself is tranquil and quiet, ideal for switching off and enjoying the fresh air, yet it’s close enough to attractions, walking trails, and pubs for when you want to get out and about.

The team running the park go above and beyond to make sure guests feel comfortable. They’re approachable, knowledgeable about the local area, and always happy to help with recommendations.

If you’re looking for a peaceful, well-run, and welcoming site with fantastic facilities and beautiful surroundings, Barley Meadow Touring Park is the perfect choice. We’ll definitely be returning!

Electric optional hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked Loved our one night at Barley Meadow. First time here but not our last. This lovely site has super maintained grounds a pitches. You may need chocks on some. The site is close to the A30 and a nearby Petrol station is very handy, and not motorway prices! We didn’t use the ablution block, but I’m sure it was spotless. Great friendly welcome from the Gentleman/ owner, and why don’t more campsites used ANPR cameras at the entrance, instead of codes? Much better idea!

Electric optional hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked The facilities were excellent, everything was well kept, clean and tidy. Great information and communication too. Super value too.

Disliked Only the occasional road noise and hum of the A30 in the distance but that can't be helped and we could see from the location there was a road so our choice to book.

Local attractions

Devoting a few days to rambling explores of Dartmoor National Park is a must hereabouts, with plenty of stunningly scenic spots to include in itineraries. Start with the nearby Teign Valley and the can’t-miss Lydford Gorge (the deepest gorge in south-west England) – don’t forget a camera to snap some shots of the spectacular White Lady waterfall and the Devil’s Cauldron whirlpool. There are more ways to explore Dartmoor National Park than on foot or by bike too: adrenaline junkies can try out whitewater kayaking or canoeing along the River Dart, or head into Okehampton to sign up for scrambling through gorges. History buffs are well served around these parts too: jaunts into Exeter come with possible pitstops at the city’s famed cathedral, medieval guildhall and Tudor-built House that Moved (that one deserves a quick internet search), while rural travels lead to stately manors including Powderham Castle, Castle Drogo, Killerton House, and Buckland and Buckfast abbeys, all within an hour's drive. Poke around England’s last working water-powered forge at Finch Foundry and visit the Museum of Dartmoor Life near Okehampton, or step back into the present day with some kid-friendly fun at Crealy Adventure Park or Diggerland Devon, both around half an hour from the site.
