Activities at the aqua park

  • East Kent site next to a popular wakeboarding centre and aqua park
  • Wingham Wildlife Park five minutes’ drive; Margate 20 minutes
  • On-site eatery; walk to Sandwich’s pubs and restaurants in 15 minutes
Adventure time… sorted. At Whitemills Wake and Aqua Park, just outside Sandwich, you’ll be staying right next to the watersports centre – so getting to those outdoor activities could hardly be easier. As the name suggests, this place has a floating inflatable aqua park to try out, and a variety of wakeboarding activities including beginner lessons and sessions for more experienced wakeboarders. And that’s not all – you can also book ringo rides, open-water swims, SUP yoga sessions and sauna/cold plunge experiences. You’re going to need plenty of fuel to get you through all those activities, so it’s handy that the site is also home to a popular restaurant that serves up homemade meals for breakfast and lunch, alongside a good range of drinks. You can shelter indoors there or take your meals and drinks out onto the terrace to watch all the action on the lake. Come evening time, you’re welcome to light up a barbecue or firepit for a cosy evening on site, or you may like to stroll into Sandwich – it takes about 15 minutes to walk to the pubs and restaurants in the town centre. From Sandwich, you can also pick up train or bus connections for trips to nearby seaside resorts including Margate, Ramsgate and Broadstairs, or inland to Canterbury. With easy access from two A roads, this is a handy spot for all sorts of Kent days out, including beach days and zoo trips. All sorts of guests are welcome here, including families, couples, groups and those travelling with their dogs.

What customers say

This is a modern, clean site with spacious pitches and excellent new facilities. Visitors enjoyed the water sports, on-site restaurant and friendly staff. Some found it small with limited children's recreation, and occasional issues with toilet paper supply and shower heating were noted. The site is well-located for exploring local areas.

Electric grass and earth touring pitch

Liked The site was cute, a little small but pretty with 3 little lakes for different activities, a petrol station and shops a 2 minute drive away. Cafe on site and toilet and washing facilities. The food is reasonably priced and there is a lovely little ice cream bar too. The aqua park is smaller then bewl water but probably a better fit for little ones. It is lovely but it was the smallest campsite we have been to the last few years.

Disliked The only minor sides were that we paid for a £7 swim and had to pay £14 to buy boyancy aids rather then just have the opportunity to hire. I've been to a few others where you havent had to pay for the aids or wetsuits. There also wasn't a play area for the kids which is usually a nice bonus at family camping. The people in the pitch next to us had also taken a big chunk of our pitch which I pointed out to the person who led us to our pitch which he acknowledged but didn't do anything about which was a shame and the women's toilets kept either running out of toilet roll or the toilet roll was stuck as well as constant wet floors as we didn't see a cleaner at all.

Electric grass and earth touring pitch

Liked Great water park and restaurant serving food all day and evening. The fantastic weather helped. Went paddle boarding and wake boarding. Jumps were great. Sandwich and Deal are beautiful villages to visit.

Disliked Campsite had not area to empty grey waste or toilet liquid. So unable to use loo in caravan during the night. Not a major problem but wasn’t aware if this when booking.

From the manager: Hi sorry you couldn’t locate the waste disposal point we have one it’s located in the rear of the campsite.

Electric grass and earth touring pitch

Liked Smaller/intimate site
Lots to do - inflatables and water sports
Good entertainment - Band/Singer and DJ on (Bank Hols)
Good facilities

Disliked Limited number of toilets/showers (x3 of each) however you never had to queue for either.
Bathroom facilities need to be tended to more frequently, often no toilet roll - having to supply own.
Insect bites (mosquitos) due to open water - unavoidable but insect repellent of some description is a must for future campers!

Liked The staff had a tough challenge to keep the bathrooms clean as some people do make a mess but they were clean. We tried all water activities available. Wakeboarding, paddle boarding and the lake inflatables were so fun. The lifeguards were very observant and ensured everyone had life vests on. The food and ice creams were lovely and staff were great. Live music and DJ at the bar/restaurant too. Lovely beach nearby (£10 to get in as it’s a private beach, nowhere to buy anything on the beach so bring snacks/drinks) We had a great time!

Disliked No shop onsite but there are shops nearby. Toilet kept running out of toilet paper (i believe some teenagers had been messing about with it) no bench to put your stuff when shower so it was difficult to get dressed (only a hook in the shower) they did have wifi but we couldn’t log on for some reason (not that we needed it as we were too busy having fun!)

Electric grass and earth touring pitch

Liked Great location good vibes good bar and restaurant fairly priced. Loved watching the lake as we chilled for the afternoon pitches are spacious some pitches had 3/4 tents on them !!

Disliked Not enough showers or toilets for the amount of people staying on the sight (there were a lot) some pitches had around 16 people or more. I had to que at 6.30 am to use the loo. And always a que for a shower. Gets quite warm in there like a sauna struggle to dry to get dressed. I don’t like that kids can play ball games in the camping area , my caravan windscreen had been smashed whilst we were at the bar no one owned up to it. !! There was no one coming to check the site, checking who was staying etc. and the shower n toilets needed checking more often for cleaning etc as at times they were not the greatest.

Local attractions

Are you into big cats? Or perhaps you prefer smaller (and less ferocious) animals, such as meerkats and red pandas? How do you feel about primates? Well, good news: at Wingham Wildlife Park (five minutes’ drive), you can see them all, plus colourful birds and creepy crawlies. There’s also a Dinosaur Park, with more than 20 prehistoric creatures. Ramsgate (15 minutes) has a sandy beach and the Royal Harbour, where vessels are often decorated with fairy lights, making for a pretty sight after dark. The Ramsgate Tunnels, carved underground in the 1930s, became an air-raid shelter during World War II, and today they run guided tours, plus events from vintage dances to festive markets. Besides a wide sandy beach with a tidal pool and a waterfront sauna, Margate (20 minutes) is home to Dreamland, an amusement park with vintage rides and events including big-name concerts. The rotating art exhibitions at Turner Contemporary are always worth a look.
