  • Family-friendly farm site in the High Weald with lake and woodlands
  • A 35-minute drive to Eastbourne and Hastings; 50 minutes to Brighton
  • Communal fridge and launderette on site; pub 15 minutes' walk
To set out on an idle walk among the fruit and nut orchard or to follow a bridlepath into the medieval landscapes of the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty? Walkers are certainly spoilt for choice at Sheherezade Fruit Farm in the East Sussex countryside. This welcoming family-friendly farm site has a couple of fields: a bottom field with portable toilets and a top field with the site's main facilities including a fully-fitted kitchen with a table and chairs, as well as two fully equipped shower rooms. You may fancy unwinding with an on-site lakeside picnic packed with farm-made jams and chutneys or sipping on fresh fruit juices before setting off into the surrounding woodlands and lanes towards local fishing lakes and country villages. If you weren’t a foodie before you arrived, you’ll surely be one upon your departure. Order fresh eggs from the site and for any other supplies, head to the bigger supermarkets in Hailsham and Heathfield, which are within 15 minutes’ drive of the site. If you still have room in your stomach, there’s a pub within 15 minutes’ walk, with a pub garden for dogs (welcome on site on a lead) and cosy beamed innards where you can nurse a pint. Back on site, the resident pigs, sheep and hens await with a cheery welcome home. Once you've greeted them, keep your food fresh in the communal fridge and make use of the other facilities on site, including a launderette and toilets. The site is within 35 minutes’ drive of Eastbourne and Hastings, and with Newhaven port 40 minutes away for links to France via ferry.

Non-electric grass campervan pitch

Liked A really lovely peaceful site. Had a great pitch next to the lake with plenty of room and was nice and level. Great being surrounded by the farm life of sheep, pigs and goats. Carol, the owner, was amazing and really looked after us. The facilities were clean and well looked after. Throughly enjoyed the home farm produce of bacon, sausages, eggs and pork chops. Thoroughly recommend a stay here and we will definitely return soon.

Disliked Nothing.

Electric optional grass and earth campervan pitch

Liked Camping here was an absolute joy! This is camping in its best and most authentic form. The setting on the working farm was peaceful and relaxing, with plenty of space to unwind and enjoy nature at its rawest. The owner is fabulous, so welcoming and genuinely friendly, which instantly made us feel at home.

The facilities were excellent, clean and well looked after, making the whole experience easy and enjoyable. The atmosphere across the site was warm and inviting, with a real sense of community yet still lots of tranquility.

A real highlight was the fresh produce available on site, everything was reasonably priced and absolutely delicious. It felt wonderful to enjoy food straight from the farm as part of our stay.

If you’re looking for a truly down-to-earth, relaxing camping experience with great facilities, welcoming hosts, and that extra special touch of farm-fresh produce, I couldn’t recommend this place more highly.

Electric optional grass and earth campervan pitch

Liked Lovely idyllic site on a working fruit farm in early autumn. Goats in the field. Beautiful lakeside pitches. Super-helpful host.

Disliked Nothing. If you choose the lakeside pitches it is a trek to the showers but there are other pitches at the top of the hill. Choices innit.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Everything about this farm/campsite was everything we needed. The site owner, Carol, was very welcoming. The facilities at the site were clean and tidy. We were impressed by how much was available to use. There's a kettle, microwave, fridge, toaster, sink, washing machine, ironing board, iron and hoover in the communal cabin, along with a dining table and chairs to sit at while socialising or eating.

We had initially planned to stay for one night but after an amazing night camped bedside the lake under the stars we stayed for an extra night. We enjoyed watching the sheep roaming the fields, and the pigs, chickens and geese.

The site was quiet and peaceful and we had the luxury of enjoying the whole field and lake side camping on our last night as we were the only one's there.

This has now become one of our favourite campsites to visit and we very much look forward to staying there again.

Thank you Carol and Rupert (woof woof) for making our stay so enjoyable, peaceful and relaxing.

Carol & Pete xx

Non-electric grass campervan pitch

Liked Good location quiet and lovely dark skies. Main facilities clean and tidy. Showers are good

Disliked Distance from lakeside pitches to toilets/shower/kitchen about 5/8 min walk over uneven ground
Not aware of sheep/goats running free so pitches do have a lot of poo about
Only one portaloo useable for the 10 or so pitches in the lake field
Was bitten after geese by toilet block attacked as I walked up to the building. You have to get past them and potentially the owners dog (if it is out) to get to the block
Owner adding 'don'ts that were not in listing...i.e. do not take dogs up of near toilets, keep dogs away from hers
There is not a fresh water supply in the lake field

From the manager: Well how did I know you were going to give me a bad review Michael. Your friend was given the low down on everything when she arrived but you were 2 hours later and I had to go out. You are sadly, just a grumpy old man who cannot even accept an apology well. You taunted my dog to distraction by walking yours up and down the fence line and I don’t appreciate Rupert not feeling comfortable in his own home. On each occasion you did this it took me hours to calm him down. He has never behaved like that before so don’t pigeon hole him as such. I pride myself on being generous and allowing your dogs here and I noted this morning that, despite my request that your dogs are kept on a lead in the bottom fields, that you ignored that. I didn’t say anything at the time but this response to your review tells you exactly what I think of you.
A little respect for someone else’s property and animals would have been nice but clearly you are not a generous soul. Yes you were bitten by the geese but I suspect you walked towards them, taunting them as well, and they were threatened by that. I also apologised for that but as already stated, you could not be gracious enough to accept it when I came over this morning to check on you both. Don’t ever come here again as you will not be welcome you awful man. As you can see from all my other reviews, you are alone in your outrageous comments.

Tranquility and an outstandingly pretty site.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked What a wonderful host Carol was!
It’s all really well set up and Carol is still continuing to upgrade, like the new gate and fence - looks great and even easier to use now!
Best facilities we have ever had camping, and the walk there you are kept very entertained by all the well loved animals. <3
Fantastic view, we went by the upper hedge overlooking the lake.
No noise, no wind as it’s sheltered, just peace and quiet.
Very short walk to a local pub for a great meal and a couple of bitter shandies!
Other campers were all lovely, had a few nice chats and everyone was very respectful.
Very little light pollution, so we got to see the special moon and Jupiter and Venus at 3am.
We have had the most fantastic time, thank you so much.

Disliked That I forgot to come and buy some of the jam! We will just have to come again haha!

Local attractions

Tread carefully over the grounds where Normans landed many years ago with a visit to Battle Abbey (20 minutes’ drive). Continue onto the battlefield itself or head into the town of Battle (20 minutes), where the memory of the Battle of Hastings remains. For more trips into times gone by, the well-preserved bricks and moats of Herstmonceux Castle (15 minutes) make a good contrast to the timeworn turrets of Pevensey Castle (20 minutes). Gaze up to the moon and stars… and discover a world of domes and telescopes at The Observatory Science Centre (15 minutes), where kids can gawp over the different planets. More wonders await, this time from the animal world, at the family-friendly themed rides at Drusillas Park (half an hour) or the barns and farm animals of Middle Farm (25 minutes). Cuddle up to more animals of the furry kind at Raystede Centre for Animal Welfare (25 minutes). Ready for some more hands-on action? Try the treetop courses at Go Ape Bedgebury (half an hour) or get into watersports at Bewl Water (35 minutes).
